Description
DL3 - Dragons of Hope v1.8 Dragons of Hope is the third chapter of the Dragonlance saga. You have rescued a group of prisoners from slavery in the mines of Pax-Tharkas. Now you have to keep them fed and safe in the cold wilderness of the south, while you try to find a safe refuge. But the dragon army is hot on your heels and the way south is hidden since the Dwarfgate wars. Can you find the hidden gate of Thorbadin before the time runs out? Perhaps you can find information in Skullcap, the old ruin of Fistandantilus?
The module can be played in single and in multiplayer and it supports multiple henchmen (two new in this module). Old SOU version require Tim.hak included in zip file.
It's not a matter on if NWN2 will affect me. It is if my three children ages 2, 2/3, 2/3 will let me have some spare time... I have upgraded my computer and I´m anticipating NWN2 greatly. Only time will tell if I get some time to spare.
*crocked smile* I do intend to make some modules. But I can not give any promises on the scope or amount of support I can give. _________________________ Intelligence - The ability to plan ahead.

I've enjoyed playing all your modules, specially the ones based in the Dragonlance world. I would love to see Dl 4 complete, but it seems it will take a while. I'm asking myself how will NWN 2 affect you.

A "10" I walked my little internet feet off, not to mention trying to keep the "henchmen/companions" alive, they get into more trouble than I do! PHEW!
Oh Yeah! Tim, get #4 in here.
I'm a DragonLance Chronicle fan anyway.

thats a shame. I really enjoyed your previous work. Unfortunately I suck at scripting :) pnp Dming I am great at, 25 years experience and my own in depth game world but I just can't get the hang of scripting. "sigh" hope it does see the light of day sometime. will keep a hopeful thought.

Ive made app. 50% of DL4 a while ago. But now my time is limited, so the remaining work has been awaiting the final touches form more than a year. I would not hold my hopes too high that it will ever see the light of day.
sincerely,
Tim

How is DL 4 coming along? have you started on it yet and if so do you have an eta when you will post it?
If you have played DL1 or DL2 before you began DL3 then you can check your inventory before you move and drop any henchman "boxes". Then move towards Astinus. You may go and pick up the boxes later on one by one and see if henchmen are created as you move closer to Astinus. Save each time it works. I think it could be related to a performance issue (too many actions in queue - or something).
I hope this helped some.

I am experiencing a crash at the beginning of the module (DL3). I try to move toward Astinus and the game crashes.

Good mod, maybe a bit heavy on hack and slash at the expense of character development, but fun nonetheless.
I will try to find out what happens to your game. I suppose it crash during the first part of the game, right after you start? Tim _________________________ Intelligence - The ability to plan ahead.

I have tried with and without the hostage and henchman tokens with no luck, the game freezes no matter what.
I'm running v1.8 and v1.65 with all of the expansion packs loaded.

Solid, a little buggy, and a bit too heavy on hack and slash (I'm fine with h&s, I was just looking for a little more variety of fights).

"Hack and slash" is not "medium". More like "extra heavy." Pretty good despite the bugs.

The mod is well-written for the most part, but the endless hack-and-slash (after enduring it through the first two)finally got to me. Once Elistan started shouting "__ hours left!" at me, I tossed in the towel.
This was one of the worst of original DL PnP mods, so probably not the best to convert to NwN. When I played it (back in the Jurassic Age) we skipped DL1 entirely, played DL2 as we found it and just rushed through DL3: "OK, you're done. The hostages are safe. Ready for the next module?"
I found that only the hostage tokens caused me the crashing problem. The henchmen had nothing to do with it.
Anyway, good work overall, despite the bgugs (all of which are cataloged in other people's posts). I enjoyed all three of your DL mods enough to give some of your other mods a try.

Very good performance in translation from the novel to the computer! Awesome work with the maps, making it a non-linear adventure. good job!

I liked this one the best in the series. The time limits are great. I think Midnight has some timed things, and that really helps to stress the reality of the situation. A couple of things were confusing: the lich skull who did not even talk to me, one of the golems went friendly one me, etc. But this was a fun one.
I'm sorry if anything I wrote could be taken as critizism. I like feedback very much. I only tried to explain that the amount of work to redo the henchmensystem in all three DL modules are a bit much at the moment. I became a father a few weeks ago and my time to create modules is limited now.
68.65.xx.xx,
I found that the first trigger once created crashed so I added a small delay and the problem was removed. The delay may need to be increased depending on the speed of your computer, that´s why the removal of the henchmen tokens and subsequent picking them up and creating the henchmen works for you. I will take a look.

Hey Tim,
I thought you would like to know I was able to bring in the henchmen to DL3 from DL2. It may take a little extra time, but it works. Near the end of DL2 (just before you speak to the old man) I transferred as much of the henchmen's good items to my inventory. After I spoke to the old man and sent to the end of the game, I chose to "trade" before ending the game. At that time I dropped the refugees that were listed as stones in my inventory. Good place to save after that. Then I selected to jump to DL3. After DL3 loaded, the henchmen are listed as boxes in my inventory. At this point, I dropped all henchmen and all heavy items to reduce the character's weight below maximum.
Once I moved and spoke to who I had to speak with, DL3 began. Then I went and picked up all the henchman boxes and equipment. Once I moved again, all or most of the henchmen would appear. I just had to re-equip the henchmen and I was good to go. If not all the henchman appeared, I would reload the last save and try again.
I think the extra weight of the refugees and henchmen was causing the game to freeze/lock up. Putting all the good equipment on the main character helps ensure you get to keep the best equipment.
I'm working on DL3 and I hope you continue the next module!
Thanks,
Craig

Hey, sorry, I thought I was being constructive. I didn't just say they sucked. It was workable, and I played the first 2 mods, and they were okay.
In regards to the real issue I was having, for your feedback, I was wrong, it does not work on the PC, nor the Mac, nor in DebugMode or in normal mode. I'm going to try to open the mod in the toolset to see if I can remove whatever is happening on that first trigger point to get it working.
I won't post again on this mod's forum.

mikeyonker,
Once upon a time the game NWN came and it held great expectations. With great enthusiasm I learnt the rules and created a number of modules. Then the game changed repeatedly with small updates and the rules expanded and changed. Then SOU came and added classes and new scripts and a lot of work had to be put in the modules to upgrade them. Then HOTU came with a whole new set of rules regarding henchmen and persistance and I had to rework all the modules again. As things stand now the scripts need a rework to be top notch.
I agree, the henchmen in DL do not add to the experience unless you really like having them around and want to work to make it work. They are to prone to mess things up and they can greatly lower the fun when playing.
They are not neccesary. Except that Goldmoon in DL1 can be quite handy to have around.
Once you or they start to die, respawn or change places in your party things can go wrong. Sometimes when you heal another player´s henchman you may become the new master and this could really be a problem if the healer is another henchman. Carrying henchmen from one module to the other was quite a bit of work once. It works for me but as NWN comes in different flavours it is harder to support all versions. The DL modules now need NWN+SOU+HOTU 1.62 and they are only tested on a Linux and PC distribution.
If I should get inspiration I may change the Henchman system to become more like the standard HOTU system. But probably not, as it is a lot of work and NWN is dying of old age.
Thank you for your feedback,

Tim,
Sorry, I should have reviewed what I wrote: if I put it in DebugMode, it does NOT lock. It always locks in normal mode...my apologis for any confusion.

Tim,
I am just having the exact same problem. If I put it in debug mode and walk over the area that triggers the first script (I assume, and I assume it is trying to restore the henchman) it "soft locks". That is, I can see I still have keyboard control, but I have to restart because on the Mac, when the game locks up, I can't get back to the desktop. I did also try various config of dropping off a couple of henchman to even dropping ALL OF THE HENCHMAN, but still to no avail. I will take all of the henchmen's possessions, and start fresh on DL3. Will there be anything else i will miss as a result beyond the actual henchman? I really liked Caramon.
Actually, given the stage, I actually think this henchman system that you are using is very flawed and detracts GREATLY from the gaming experience. I would have been happier with the std henchperson system, real death of henchman, etc. I always saw "DESIGNER ERRORS: goldxxx template invalid", everyonce in a while a henchman I had dumped showed up back in my party (Tika, in particular) and someone useful, like Goldmoon would be missing. Lastly, every single one of the rogue henchpersons (Tika and the other Rogue found in DL1) would go hostile on Goldmoon and Sneak Attack her! My vote, dump the system, balance the battles better for a simple 2 or 3 person normal henchperson affair.
Thank you for your feedback Craig. Once I experienced freezes when you carried henchmen from DL2 to DL3. This was from some internal error and I managed to remove the problem by reworking the way multiple henchmen was handled. I thought this problem was forever removed. Do you run the latest version of the modules? I would try to leave one of the henchmen and then start DL3 and repeat this until you find a combination of henchmen that works. Running DL3 with only Fizban can be challenging but not impossible. In Skullcap you can find Blaize another "henchcharacter" on the first level.
I hope this answer gave some help. Good luck.Tim _________________________ Intelligence - The ability to plan ahead.

Tim,
As I mentioned before, great Dragonlance modules! I finished DL2 and tried to jump straight into DL3. When I did, the game would freeze and lock up my computer. I tried to save my character and the DL2 henchmen at the end, but that didn't help. I was able to save my character just before the end of the module and load the game separately. I was able to do that, but no henchmen showed. I tried this all several times. I've been playing the beginning of DL3 with only Fizban, which can be challenging at some parts.
Is there another location in the module where I can pick up more henchmen or a way to import/load new henchmen?
My character continues to drop his weapon. Does this improve or continue?
Thanks for the DragonLance modules and for your assistance!
Craig

This is ruddy good stuff. Well documented (although a bit more detail would be good in the walkthrough) and well constructed.
The only things stopping this getting a 10 are minor points:
* A few typos
* Some "out of character" dialogues
* Dialogues generally a bit short
* Some stuff needs more explaination to those who never read the books or played the PnP modules.
Apart from that - nicely done - very nice indeed. You've kept the format simple, and it works.

It should be version 1.8. Version 4.0 is for DL1 :).Tim _________________________ Intelligence - The ability to plan ahead.
Wisdom - To actually do what you planned.
I have uploaded a new version 4.0. In this one I have removed the irritating bugg that henchmen once killed and bleeding joined the one healing him/her. This made Goldmoon the master of most henchmen and thus prevented the player from talking to them.
I have also added some code to increase the chance of finding more treasure if more that one player is playing. The amount of treasure is increased for each player up to four players. Henchmen is counted as half players.
I hope this will make your experience of dragon lance even better,Tim _________________________ Intelligence - The ability to plan ahead.
