UPDATED HoTU/SoU VERSION can be found here: http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/modules/data/1094889114000.shtml CC1: Gates of Myth Drannor is a module designed for 1-4 players of levels 5-10, and is part one of the 3 part Claw Chronicles campaign that should lead the PC's on a grand adventure through the War for the Myth Drannor forest. A forest legendary on the Forgotten Realms for once being the greatest of Elven Cities, until its fall 500 years ago under a sudden attack. To this day its once benign shadows are still overun with Devils, and the minions of Hell. Though the lost treasures of the Elves is enough to pull many a foolish adventurer into its now haunted depths. Someone, however, is starting to fight back.......

Good adventure with some imaginative bits. The landscapes, while nice looking, made it hard to get around. I also felt the quest log was a bit confusing -- I couldn't tell if had actually finished some quests.
Despite my few misgivings, I enjoyed playing this (and will probably play the sequel) despite my aversion to unfinished NWN trilogies.
Great combat based module so far, with some very nice color, which keeps it from feeling like a mindless hack n slash adventure. I am having a problem, however. Having picked up the sea elf cleric in the tavern, I went through my first couple adventures with her and found her quite useful. Unfortunately she has run out of arrows and the game will not give me access to her inventory, so I might give her more. What is to be done about this? I hate to ditch her for another henchman, as I like the character, but if she isn't going to be of use in combat I may have no choice. (It must be noted that neither will she switch to her melee weapons and join me in hand to hand combat, despite the fact that I've asked her to do so) Any advice here?
I did not realy like the module and did not finish it although the end was one dialogue option away.
The module was breathtaking early on and I really had a good time up to the point where you get to see a bit more at the inn.
Once you start moving towards the city the module quality seems to deteriorate. Near the end it was confusing as if the design of the module end was rushed storywise. I found some discontinuity in the story. They are some major NPCs not to be found or seen and objects I wonder when or how to use. They are also unfinished quests due to game design and a few bugs/design flaws.
I might try it again but at this moment I consider this module somehow overrated.

Wow, this module is nicely done. I think it's the writing is great and much fun overall.
A couple of bugs I encountered (1.68): (spoilers)
I talked to the dragon then went straight to hell (didn't see the school of magic), then when I come back to the dragon, he will only say that he has seen a lich, even after I've killed the lich. I didn't really understand the story up to this point but I figured out that putting the head on the the altar did something. I then started to exit the city with the barb king but when I saved in the next map, my save got corrupted 8(. Too bad that I didn't get to finish the module and missed a big part of the story... You should prevent players from entering the city too early maybe, make it more noob-proof.

Ok, I must be missing something since no one else is complaining about this.
I like the idea of requiring food to rest.
However, I have NEVER found any food in the game. I have found potions of cure xxx wounds on creatures I have killed, but I've never found any food. I searched the starting orc village, and have searched every place I can think of (including corpses of those I kill), and have found zero food.
Howdy there Heaven. I remember appreciating your feedback, thnx. :)
And thanks Ryuu and everyone else for the support.
With the release of NWN2 any time now Im starting to plan the ending of the series, but in the updated NWN2 engine. Probably made so that the first parts are not needed to have been played.
This is gonna be fun!!
See you all in the realms!
cheers,
Ab.
Yes it has been a long time Abbadon, I first played this mod way back in 2003 right about when NWN was released on the Macintosh.
Played it now and again since then, real glad to see an update!

Hey there, been a while, im so busy at the moment with work, etc. :)
Thnx for all the constructive crits, and glad most of you enjoy it. Ya, somehow there still seem to be a number of minor things i missed (map markers etc) despite the endless scanning for mistakes. These mods are quite big, some areas copied and used multiple times depending a routes taken, choices made, etc, so it seems many little niggling errors slip by. Gladly, none are show stoppers. There is also an updated version.
As for the "favourate NPC" debarcle ;).... these npc's were pc's from a pen and paper game i DM'd so they have their own personalities, ego's, etc.
This is not a mod where the PC's wander into a small town and are asked by helpless villagers to kill kobolds. This is the Myth Drannor forest, and these NPC's live there. They are far more powerful than the pc's at this point in the series, but that changes as the quest progresses. Some people are used to always being the most kik ass heroes around in their play style, and seem to be uncomfortable in cc1 cause they just arent. Not that it makes any difference in the actual gameplay anyway. The PC's actually start cc1 at a rather low lvl for such an infamous and dangerous part of the Fogotten Realms. The idea was that over time the pc's catch up then over take the helpful npc's in power, which would be most satisying in the end.
Hopefully i finish cc3 oneday so that moment can be enjoyed by all. What i have made of it so far is VERY cool, but i am so very short on time lately so its on indefinite hold.
Thnx again, and enjoy. Good luck in your adventures. :)
Everyone has a right to their opinion. I think there may be some truth to the complaint that this module was a bit of an "author's favorite NPC show", but it didn't bother. I don't think the NPCs stole any thunder from the PC, anyway.
I played the updated version, so to see my vote and comments look on that page. :)
Take care,
Riona

Played through in multiplayer with 2 people. Plot was very linear, but we like getting into the action, so no problem for us. My wife who played with me was annoyed with some grammar, but that doesn't bother me and I rarely notice.

This module could have been a better one if "DM's favorite NPCs show" was not there. Or maybe they are his former PC and party members? I have heard again and again that "Hey your PC is no much against my favorite adventures!" Dialogues and they are really annoying. I stopped playing this module when I met a barbarian called King or something.
That is a common temptation which many DMs fall. But that kind of "NPC blowing" is no damn good for players. I know. I have been playing & GMing dice and paper RPGs for decades. Story line of a RPG (either computer one or tabletop one) should be centered on PCs, not on NPCs.

Fantasic mod. Going to start CC2 tomorrow morning. Thanks for the good work, Abaddon. I have played many a mod from this here vault and this one was exceptional. I'll let you know what I think of CC2 when I finish it. When is CC3 going to appear I wonder?

I saw this mod, and thought I remembered starting it once, but I didn't seem to have it. I downloaded it and started it, created new character, etc. After using what few spells I had, I tried to rest. THEN I remembered why I didn't have it any more!!
If you ever decide to come out with a version that doesn't require spending most of your time standing around with your thumb up your... well, you get the idea... before you can rest, let me know.'Til then, into the recycle bin with it!!
I found the grammar and spelling errors so frequent and egregious that it was hard to understand a lot of the dialogue.
Another pet peeve of mine is stories that are centered around the DM/Modders pet NPCs. Definitely on display here.
I almost gave up after discovering three quests in a row that could be endlessly turned in for repeat experience. I abandoned the mod after the conversation with Abaddon in the Crossroads Inn...Another "hot" Drow female rogue? Please.
