Description
As a relatively inexperienced adventurer, it comes as a bit of a shock that Calum has sent for you specifically. You cannot resist the call of this old friend, however... he saved your life many years ago, when you were hardly an adolescent. But he has become a Harper now, and seeks your help. Will you join him as a Harper, given the chance? What path will you follow?

Jumped back into some NWN1 for a bit and decided on the Harpers series. Played through the entire series with a simple Elven fighter. This first module is an excellent module, and they get better as they progress. Much thanks to the author for the hard work.

Decent module; story is interesting enough to keep you going. Some of the dialog was overly silly, and sort of distracting in my opinion.
One thing I definitely didn't like was enemies spawning right next to you during fights.
Started replaying this and hit a glitch that's a little annoying. Whenever Dent disarms a trap, he says that he can't do it, even when he succeeds. Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried adjusting the scripts for hench_o0_act and check_o0_act - which seemed to control those responses - but nothing happened. (I even went to the trouble of modifying the *.sav file and nothing. *sigh*)
Otherwise, it's been a very entertaining mod. Forgot how much I enjoyed it. Nice work.
This mod is FANTASTIC!
Haven't seen such game before...very entertaining
By the way there was not very difficult to fight enemies(= At first the number of animals scared me Oo So angry and so strong...But my warrior|wizard was successeful in fights)
And the story is great 2!
Dave, thank you very much...it wasn't waste of time)
Be well

Well, I enjoyed it but.....
The only way I could do this without having god-mode all the way was to use the character creating mods to build a fighter with AC nearly 40.
It's a very good mod which (like it's predecessor) is totally ruined by the impossible fights.

I really didn't enjoy this one. I probably had too high expectations for it since for some reason I related its title to "A dance with Rogues" but still. Too many pointless fights that are hard enough to make you drink several potions and die if you're not careful, but not hard enough to indicate that you should come back, not enough story, or incentive to care about any of what's happening for that matter. I found the prisoner insisting to pick up on my female char simply annoying, as well as some of the lunatic NPCs, and I can't find any of this humor others are mentioning. Sorry, I don't normally comment on modules I don't like, but I found this module both hard to like, and hard to quit playing. Hopefully the next parts are better.

This series of mods was always my Favorites. The story, cut scenes, humor and hench interaction. Some of the creature encounters were tough, But in the last 6 years.... these have always been the ones I've played again just for fun! Thanks Dave for all your hard work and time.... _________________________ Durned Elf..

Harpers' Tale is the first custom mod I ever downloaded and is still my favorite. Good action and humor. HIGHLY recommended.

I just made it through the prelude and part one. I will conentrate only on the negative aspects, coz the rest was almost perfect (sounds, surrounding, world, details) ... so - I would really love the module if not:
- combat: playing a rogue/ranger I needed once to re'load around 17 times ! In some places the creaters spawned (and invisible at the beginning) are really too strong
- shops: I dont like the conception of finding +2 weapons (and higher) in almost every single shop. The same is with 8-th level scrolls and +2 long swords coming out from goblins
- creatures: sometimes i couldnt get it how it would be possible for some of the creatures to live in the places where they have been places...
- SPOILER ahead - I did not get the idea of an important prisoner needing to wait, coz a small child went missing and there is no one to help her besides of the player, when there is a half dozen of harpers waiting in the inn already...
- very linear story line
If not all the above, I would give it a much higher note. But i simply think that it does not deserve a rating of over 9... just my opinion. Im going to play the second part right now. Maybe it will be better.
for some reason this mod refuses to be played. go to start a game only to find it's not showing up on the module list in game. i know its there. but the game doesn't show it. part 2 shows up though. any ideas? im at a loss. checked permissions thinking maybe that was the problem, but it wasn't it either.
nvm. i removed the .mod extention and changed it to .nwm, opened the game and it showed up. changed it back to .mod and its still there as it should be...very weird.. never had that happen before. _________________________ jml's list of community addons/overrides, etc. Link

While I sort of feel like an easy target for bandits and thieves carrying around all this gold and stuff, I love the continuation of the story.
Even for a hack and slash, some of the encounters are a little rough, and I find myself best friends with the quicksave button. Still it is interesting to see just how much loot I can aquire, and I am assuming that the xp from all the kills will come in handy later in the series.
I find myself looking forward to putting items together, not only to save space, raise money and experience, but just to see what comes out in the end.
Again, the wit and humor are a winner for me. I sort of like the romance idea, even if he is a little forward a little fast... seems kind of 'lusty' not lovey... but that is ok. Can't wait to see how it develops and what sort of back story there is to the past...
Over all this is a pretty solid mod, with nice compact maps... just enough to keep you busy, and not enough to overwhelm you.
The suprise chests are nice too.
I wouldn't mind seeing runes to add other properties besides Stat increases. Like haste or freedom properties, little stuff like that. I do love the fact that its a one time, one enhancement per one item package though, as it prevents uber items.
On to three...

I was really enjoying the adventure, but experienced file corruption with any save from the module (just going to the LOAD page in NwN crashed the program unless I deleted all saves from the game). Has anybody else seen this? I was looking forward to playing these through.

Well isn't this a bit of a munchkin adventure. :)
Encounters are are one powerful group after another, made up in a "little bit of this and a little bit of that" style. Tigers and bears and wolves hunting in packs! Really now. The adventurers admitting it's odd, doesn't exactly make it right either. The encounters also yield very, very hefty XP and monetary rewards. Never have I had such a load of stuff and cash at such and such level.
Not much roleplaying in there to warrant even "medium", mostly just different types of answer with no real difference anyway. Still, it gives a nice amount of flavour, as does the emerging romance.
The story and setting are nice, the places suitably compact to make playing pleasant. Despite my few gripes, I enjoyed playing this. Recommended for Hack&Slash fans.
PS. Seems rogues don't necessarily have a hard time at all. In fact, I think my Rogue/Shadowdancer/Ranger build is just about perfect. I empathise the strongest animal from the pack and sneak attack the rest with a greatsword.
The prisoner stands back, hidden.
I didn't mind the unbeatable dragon or the equally unbeatable Doom Knights in the temple catacombs, because neither encounter was essential to completing the adventure. But I have simply given up trying to defeat the Giant Magelings at the conclusion. My fighter character has an AB of 18 with his weapon of choice (bastard sword +2) and he still can't score a single hp of damage. The prisoner is a useless NPC, because the game engine won't let me, essentially say, "Use your wands, you brainless bimbo!" Is there some trick to defeating them or bypassing them? If not, I guess I will just file this module--along with the PnP version of TOMB OF HORRORS--as unplayable. Too bad. I was really enjoying it up to this point.

I Really liked this one. I love the idea with the surprise chests and I've always fancied mods where you can build up relations with your henchmen. The only yet minor problem is, that she's a little too eager to get a relationsship with my character... that could be because of her situation being a prisoner? That's of course just my opinion, and not that significant to the overall experience. But indeed a well-made mod with lots of depth... keep 'em coming

I just started this mod today...and it looks like a fun adventure.
*SPOILERS*
The Indestructible Dragon, is it really indestructible or just with a hell of a lot of HP? Anyway my wizard killed him, well the Black Blade of Disaster killed him with one hit. Woot!

Consider my white flag raised, if that is the goal of this module.
I can't take struggles for survival, and that's what this module amounts to. An otherwise well written story is ruined (like so many others) by one overpowered encounter after another. The need to protect a henchman makes it worse.
The last straw for me was trying to take the henchman through the crypt. Two bodaks in every encounter group and the groups continually respawn. There's one Belt of Guiding Light available from the merchants, but who wears it? She dies, the game ends. I die, the game ends. The game ends, the fun dies. And the game ends a lot.
I was willing to overlook annoyances like encounters that are -supposed- to be fled from and the free availability of treasures like Horrid Wilting scrolls, +5 weapons, and Rings of Power at such low levels. But the combo of a henchman that -must- be kept alive and creatures that can kill instantly took things one step too far. So I now have to abandon a series that looked very promising. Which is a pity.

still can't figure out why respawning monsters are such a terrible thing. best i can think of is that maybe they'r worse if you play really ,really slowly to give time for lots of respawning. i saw only 4 or 5 respawn-mobs the entire mod, but i move pretty fast through the mod.

Very very good module. Some great battle here!!! The only complain that i got is the respawning monster. Beside of that, its amazing.

A really good series that was fun to play as well. I really liked the storyline and the cool new toys to play with.

A late vote to a Hall of Fame series.
A fine begining to working with the Harpers.
My Elven Neutral Good Druid (gotta be Haper material - no?) was fairly challenged by the level of combat through out the mod; and having a mindful eye on my prisoner made it even more so. I have often recommended people play the Bioware PC keeping Sharwyn alive as a goal - and here I was rewarded with nearly that very challenge.
This mod is labled Hack and Slash heavy and in all fairness that is an accurate statement. A few more options to pacify wild animals & spiders (like the white stag quest) or mislead (like the Iron Throne thugs) would have been appreciated. Some bonus experience for using your head or tactics.
My only regret is that I fixed the link pin but never completed the quest. There didnt seem to be an option to return unless it was meant as a diversion to "weigh you down".
In all a very well done adventure and well worth the time playing.
