V1.06 - You start in the city of Scornubel where your father runs a less than legitimate business. You regularly take part in his dealings, and today is no different, or so you think; little do you know, you are being hunted... Henchmen/women are available and add to the story, and if you see a house, chances are you can go inside and take stuff from it (except in Scornubel), but all this stuff is in the readme.
How good can this really be?
1. No documentation
2. Nothing in the house (necklace only). Could not find the friends (henchmen?) after getting first quest.
3. Found the inn but still no trace of my friends. Ended up talking to NPC alone just wearing plain clothes and without weapon (it's a public place!). He turned hostile and killed my character (the author either have a strange sense of humor or a poor idea of realism).
4. Not a big deal for me but respawn is disabled.
Trying this again probably means to get ready for battle, look for the henchmen everywhere possible, go talk to the guy and possibly kill him on the spot.

the henchman involvement was great, as was the plotline. Pity it ends when starting getting hot.
Saw this pop up on the front page of the vault which was nice. Thanks Starlight :) I got a new computer recently, so i've been able to start work on remaking and altering part 1 and 2 in NWN2. Most of the story and conversations were already made in NWN1 but some of my old scripts are crashing NWN2 and this new cutscene system is a little temperamental. I'll figure it all out eventually, so hopefully people enjoy it when I finally put it up :)

Pretty good. The story was good, henchmen were interesting. It was a little short, but you got me wanting to play the next one, good job:) Can't wait.
Sorry its taken a bit to reply but this has been the first time ive come back here since my last post. This mod is more of an intro, the actual story is buried somewhere on my computer. As for the NWN 2 mod, I will be redoing pt 1 as when i did pt 2 i learned a lot more as i went along and pt 1 could be a fair bit better imho. Pt1 and 2 will also come out together so people get a complete story this time :) All the scripting is done already really, but RL means I don't know when I will get a chance to put it all together when NWN 2 is out.
Hey - does this module constitute a complete adventure, in some sense (even without the sequel)? And are you planning to include this module, too, in the module for NWN2, or shall that be a module for a character from this module?
Wow, i'm not sure what the chances of coming back to here and finding a comment were, but there it is and no less on the same day as i look. That aside hmdai, there IS a DS2 unreleased, mostly bug tested but i chose not to release it as I want to rework the story a bit and make it from scratch in NWN2 (the new ideas prove for what I hope will be a bit of a twist compared to what I already had lined up) ^^

A post for anyone considering downloading the mod or wondering when the next version will be put on the site. The (hopefully) last version of DS1 is done, and I should be uploading it on saturday if everything goes to plan. :)
Wraithchilde, I get what is being said with the making everything less boring bit, even though I would have liked to leave part 1 and move onto part 2. I'll add a load of placeables in, but don't expect any update for at least a month, as I just don't have the time.
As for quests, I will try and add more evil options in part 2, as in that aspect part 1 is going to be left alone. I thought there was enough choice, but I'll do some really evil options too.
I don't think there is that much different compared to v1.04, so it may not be worth going through again. Fair points, and I'm not going to criticise, but compared to the other votes, that seems a little low don't you think? Btw, don't forget to not register ;)

Something in the 4-7 mark.
That would be due to nearly all the shops I've seen bearing exactly the same stock, npc appearences conflicting (strongly) with their portraits and not much by way of visual stimulation. That being said I'll try to play through more than the begining of this new version and see how it goes.
After despeartely trying to fit the mod onto a floppy, failing miserably at finding ANY RW discs or my software for copying, and finally about an hour of searching... I found a USB thingy. I've just uploaded v1.05 finally!
Damn it took a long time. Both to post the update, and upload it (33kbps)!
239 dl's (it went up by 6 as I was uploading v1.05!) and 3 votes - something very disproportionate... unless the other people intend to vote negatively, then it's ok that theyre not voting ;).
Balgin, if you register, we'll all have a big party... well metaphorically anyway ;). Out of interest even if you never register, what overall mark would you give it?
NPC varying, the bane of mod making, but the same problem in about 90% of mods. Although the areas may get sameish in part 1, and I do follow you on that (e.g. I have a set idea on how towns should be set out), and it was mostly rural (this is not only due to the set map, but my fault just as much, as I hate desert, and dislike regular dungeon crawls). Part 2 is a little more varied, but I don't think I can bring myself to head into the desert, esp since the journey is already literally mapped out. I am however using two very good HAKs for interior and exterior elven tilesets for some variation, and there is a small dungeon, and a few foresty bits too etc (in other words, I don't solely rely on using the rural or city tilesets alone basically in DS2.
I think I'm managing to keep people and stuff varied as I go along now Balgin, but yeah, I'd appreciate you checking it out when it's done to make sure it's varied enough and properly, as (without meaning to sound sarcastic) you really sound like you know what you expect.
Incidentally, I've done 55 areas for DS2 so far. They're far from full, but I've done the route the character will take mainly, with a few quests put in. I'm going to cut DS2 short probably, for 2 reasons - 1)it's getting big as it is. 2) I need stuff to put in DS3, and the way part 2 is going, DS3 would be very short otherwise, as I don't know what to do after the PC triumphs. And I'm getting carried away typing again so I'm going to stop ;)

Specialy for Lizzie I'd recommend the Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead. A very interesting take on the old tales.
If I ever bother to register then I'll vote. I just haven't bothered to register yet. Currently I'd rate this mod low on visual appeal (because it suffers a bit from the Arcanum/BG problem of all the npc's looking the same and the areas not being too varied) but high on most other points.
Mrmonko: if you're taking a long time loading areas when visualy tweaking you could always send me the mod when it's done for visual tweaking then I could send it back. Just an idea.
And if you can't do it with a USB have you considered a CDRW? Rewriteable CD's are great for transferring reasonable ammounts of data if you've got a CD writer drive.
Ugh, got results yesterday. Spent most of day/night out with friends drinking etc. Was pretty happy with results, except for one which subject I got a D in (DO NOT LEARN GREEK!), and a paper which either needs remarking, or taking up with the school, as the marker didn't give ANYONE above 63/90 (it could mean the difference between me getting BBC or BCC).
I'm getting bored of the LAN problem now. I think I'm just going to grab someones USB device and use another computer to upload the mod. I'll try and get that done tomorrow, but still on 56k :(. It does get... annoying when it disconnects about half way through.
It's great just talking about this that and everything, but I wonder about the lack of other people posting or voting here though. The mod has gone off the new entries list, so just to get some publicity to get it onto the 10 votes list, I might put it up for review soon. Btw, if I vote to put another vote on, and just put a 9 like other people, is that considered bad show or acceptable?
They left out a big part of the Arthur story. Don't read if you're going to watch it, even after this criticism... in every adaptation, lancelot and guinovere (however you spell it) have an affair of some sort - the movie has lancelot die on the battlefield, while she, having never talked to him seems very upset by this. I got the feeling that the ending was too rushed while the rest of the movie was drawn out for too long in comparison.

Mrmonko,
Good luck with that LAN problem, too. Hope that gets fixed. And you're a redoubtable soul to be doing updates with a dial-up connection ... those uploads can be rough!
BTW, I really LIKE that this page has welcomed off-topic postings, and nobody's testy about it. Gamers, despite the stereotype, often DO have interesting lives, outside of gaming, and it's fun to share glimpses of those.
Balgin,
Regarding Arthurian tradition, I'm fairly open-minded. I have the Mabinogion on my shelves -- also Geoffrye of M, and Thomas Mallory. I could accept as traditional something that borrowed heavily from any of them, really, though of course I have some personal preferences.
The trailers looked like they largely were telling an-almost-entirely new story, just using characters with the traditional names and at least nominally the same relationships. Which isn't, just by definition, going to make the movie bad, but it IS going to make me more hesitant to spend $$ going to a theatre to see it.
Posted by Balgin Stondraeg ( 81.79.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-08-19 03:39:00
Well that all depends on your view of traditional.
The traditional story of King Arthur is four chapters of the Mabinogion and includes a voyage by him and his knights to the islands of the dead to retrieve treasures.
Geoffrye of Monmouth has a lot to answer for. Mind you his stuff was good, same goes for the other guy but then the french really mucked it up. I haven't seen teh film but my brother said it was pretty poor.

Best of luck on your results!
I was wondering about the Arthur movie -- the visuals look good, but even the trailers look like the traditional story was lost.
That's fine, as commoners will only be used to fill places or give small quests; sounds like they'd make a nice change to the standard ones :). Work on DS2 will probably be delayed for a day or 2 anyway, as my AS results are out tomorrow, and I'll either spend the time comiserating or celebrating with friends.
As a side comment for anyone, if you haven't seen the king arthur movie, don't. The acting and scenery was good, but the plot was pretty bad, and the 'accuracies' probably came on par with inaccuracies.

I'll have to dig 'em out from another mod where I got bored of the Bioware npc models and decided to tart them up a bit (gave amost of the female peasants skirts, blatant tomboys exepted etc). Gimme some time finding them.
I had great fun using Balder's Hauberks and altering all the enemies armour and making it droppable in DS2... well, thats a lie, I had to wait for each area to load, and I went to a lot of effort to make all armour varied, but if even one person appreciates it when DS2 comes out, it will be worth it.
Btw, I've created the basics of Tethyr now in DS2 (given up with the elves for now), and will move onto wherever I said the PC was going to go after that (wow, my planning for this is good ;)) in a few days time, so any time you want to send across whatever generic people alterations you've done, it would be appreciated. You should finish it, and post it on the vault, as its something nobody has thought of yet to my knowledge.
You can't deny this is off topic though. When else do mod authors talk about weddings they've been to etc?
Also, this LAN problem may take longer than anticipated. I'm just going to say that the next update will be up in the future, but I'll post when I update it. :)
Posted by Balgin Stondraeg ( 81.76.xxx.xxx ) at 2004-08-17 08:28:00
Off topic? You'd be surprised. I'm currently playing around with Balder's latest head haks and updated armour robe hak and enjoying them too much to actualy play much at the moment.
Thanks Balgin, thats gonna save some unnecessary stress, which is really appreciated. Just goes to show, you may be able to make competent scripts, but the obvious still manages to escape some of us ;)
Elizabeth, it must be nice to do your own wedding, as you can get things done exactly how you want them rather than having someone else use their ideas. There were so many people at that thing, when it came to desert, you had to queue up, and after queueing for 15mins or more, I got bored and wandered off in search of something less tedious!
I've just got a 56k dialup, but in true british style quality I can't connect at anything better than 45kbps so it takes even longer. The problem this time though is the LAN connection between the computer I'm currently typing on, and the one that I do everything on (this comp was re formatted, and each time we re format it, it takes a while of messing about to get the connection working) the connection is there, it just won't do anything. Btw, any reason for being weary or just one of those things?
I think this must be the most off topic forum there is sometimes. Well, better than having a flame war on it ;)

If I could afford a wedding like that, I'd show off too! I work in theatre (I'm a set designer) - staging my own wedding was just hosting a medium-sized production -- but 800 people is big by ANY standards.
Mrmonko, what's your internet connection? Just curious ... sounds like you're stuggling.

Even if you put stuff in containers they'll still get the default Bioware treasure spawning in them unless you go to the properties tab and remove the onopen and ondeath scripts as those put treasure in them.
Annoying that you have to do it for each one but that's the way it is.
Okay, the updated version of the mod id finished... but the connection between my computer and the one connected to the net isn't working :(. There's no simple way to transfer the file, so v.1.05 is going to have to wait, probably for two more days at least before it gets uploaded.
Got the vigilante quest that kept on appearing! It was in the Athlaka tavern. Piece of advice - never trust the toolset quest wizard thing, it's probably more hassle than it's worth.
Heh, the guy hosting the wedding wanted to show off. Apparently the wedding may have cost up to £80,000! (Just hope the marriage lasts at that cost!). Even the invites looked expensive, and they had some of the brides younger friends and family do a v. bollywood dance, which looked like it must have taken a lot of time to rehearse with professionals.

Damn ... I wish I could remember when that journal entry popped up. I'm pretty sure it was in the latter half of the mod -- maybe just after the conversation with henchwoman during the sunset?
BTW, 800 people isn't a wedding ... it's a convention!
