If you are playing The Light Reborn (TLR) as a series, this is part 3. However, it can be played standalone. If you are just playing the HoF modules, this is the module that got into he HoF. A shadow has fallen across the world of Harthe. The arrival of a man, named Samuel, claiming to be a Veranite -- the lost race of kings blessed by the Creator of Harthe with divine power -- causes a stir in the country of Anvid. Could he really be a Veranite? Does he serve the Light, as he says, or is he a deceiver? Samuel gathers heroes across the land to do the will of the Virtues -- the spirits of good that he claims to talk to. You are one such hero. But the power of the Dark does not stand still. Who can resist it? You're on your way to Anvid city to hunt down a Servant of Solanor named Tarnn. Having proven your friendship to The Children (i.e. elves) you now have been granted access to their realm. Your group will pass into the realm of The Children - the first non-elves in centuries!

I found this one to be "as bad as the first".
Early in the module you need to explore and collect clues more than investigate and you don't get a chance to solve the case. You can find that you may need an artefact to help but you need to wait to trigger the quest that goes with it. I wanted to skip the first part and go to the artefact as it seems the best way to handle the situation.
The dungeon although short is the "lame" part of the module with carpet of traps but no rogue to help and outsiders beyond your abilities. Add the resting restrictions and you will spend a lot of time crawling out of the dungeon just to rest. Using healing potions may help with HP loss but you still need to retreat to regain spells or remove those nasty stat drain (you don't fight outsiders with "3" in Str).
Also the module forces you to close quests before solving the case, it did not make sense to me so I finished to module with loot I wanted to identify/sell and a pretty girl left behind.
5-6: A good effort that fans of the style will find worth the download.

I just completed all the mods in the series and I have nothing but compliments and gratitude.
It was interesting and actually had a really good story that did not get so convaluted it became superfluous. The combat was challenging without being impossible. The puzzles aspects very enjoyable - The Kudos for your efforts. Anything else to come in NWN 1? I truly hope so.

saxgal,
I can't tell you where the other amulet is. It's sort of an easter egg. However, I'll give you a hint. It's not far away from the last place the murderer found it.
okok.....I've been EVERYWHERE man!!....where's the other amulet??.....
Loving this series!!.....

Moving to part 3 and it really is the best one yet.
Talking to people and learning stuff about the world and veranites was fun. Solving the mystery bit, a little simplistic for my tastes. That and being short were the two drawbacks of the module. But then, a good short one is miles better than a long mediocre module.
Wouldn't work very well as stand-alone, there just wouldn't be interest in learning more of your companions, if you didn't know them beforehand or after.
Played as single player, Rogue/Fighter. I've had some difficulty so far, due to not gaining enough experience to be at the recommended level for the next installment. Solved through cheating, no biggie.
"The children" was a well done and entertaining andventure for a single evening.

Mh, I've probably mixed this up with the Island Adventure series where the part with the problem was named "the color of light", hence the misunderstanding. You know what - I'll just start plying and see how it fares. :)

This seems to be an issue with some longer mods AFAIK. It happened in a few other mods as well (i.e. Torn Asunder). Which means it's probably not something you can fix - but it's a showstopper nonetheless. Hence why I'd like to know if it's still "in" there. _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud

Libita,
I have not heard of this. Has anyone else had problems? I'll go try this out myself when I have time.
IIRC I had an issue with Part 3 where from a certain point on all saves I made were corrupted and couldn't be loaded. Since the files are a bit older, does anyone know of any game-breaking bugs like I described? If I start again from part 1 on, do you know of any unresolved game-breaking bugs I might encounter? _________________________ One feels inclined to say that the idea that man should be "happy" is not included in the plan of "creation". - Sigmund Freud

More of a whodoneit with some hack&slash at the end. Liked it the best out of the 3 so far. Again no discernable bugs except that my character got stuck on a wall and had to use debug to get her off of it.

Best mod of the series so far, quite linear, but some good RP!

Thanks for the feedback Robert,
Yes, the game is very challenging for a wizard. I played it through as a wizard to make sure it was possible, but of course I know what the solutions to the puzzles are. :-)
After I completed the game, I realized I needed more interaction with the NPCs (they were originally just designed to help out single players since I intended my modules to be primarily for multiplayer or DM play.)
However in TLR 3 I felt the focus was more on single player so I went back and added some dicussion between the player and the NPC on the murder mystery. However, it only comes up under certain conditions and it's possible that you missed those conditions for some reason. Which henchman did you have with you (if any) when you investigated the murder scene? (feel free to email me instead of posting back here.) If it wasn't Rebecca, Joshua, or Shane, then you missed the main NPC interaction that I inserted.
Still, overall, the game doesn't have a lot of NPC interaction compared to some modules because I didn't plan it in from the beginning. However, this module has some strengths that most don't. It can be played multplayer cooperative and it's fully enabled for DM play. All the while it's still a great single player module. I really think this is a rarity amongst hall of fame modules. They usually cater specifically to one style of play - usually single player. I feel that most people have totally missed the fact that this is a DMFI module that is also a top notch single player experience. The NPC interactions were unfortunately a casualty of that trade off in some cases.

Just about perfect except that I would have liked more interaction with my henchmen.

Great module!
Excellent story and unique, sometimes hilarious, side-quests. Great cut scenes. I didn't observe much interaction with the henchmen (they seemed to be little more than meat-shields in my experience), but the other NPCs were a lot of fun to talk to.
Very tight, clean area design. I didn't have to run around a lot, but you still gave the impression of travelling distances where necessary. Beautiful elven city.
*Extremely* challenging fights for my Wizard-6; I had to resort to a lot of reloading and "run away to split them up" tactics, but it was not as overwhelming as chapter 2 was. Thanks for the ring of invisibility; it made my fireballs much more effective!

The henchmen bug is fixed in the current version. However, if they die while not in your employ, they stay dead. This is the Bioware default behavior and I don't want to change it because every time Bioware changes the henchmen something serious breaks. By using their default behavior I'm hoping to avoid this problem.
Well it looks like there is a bug then, as I did check the quarters.. for both of them... and they weren't there.
Hehe.. I started this mod as a cleric 15/fighter 2.... Looks like I might not regret it after all! :) I thought it was going to be way to easy... but I don't think it will be.. judging from the fights that I've been through so far.. Eeeeeeeeeek! :)

dublon,
Henchmen, if they die in your service, respawn back at your quarters. However, the current build may have a bug where they don't respawn. So you may be on your own. I'll get a fix out soon. The whole Henchman respawn has been broken for a while due to Bioware script changes. It seems like if it isn't one thing, it's another with the poor henchmen.
I've lost 2 henchmen so far: Joshua and Rebecca, so I'm now left with Shane.
My question.. are the henchmen gone for good, or have I missed something in the readme about henchmen dying...
I'm at the bottom of the ruins and I think I'll need some help..so if I lose Shane... Oh oh................... :)

Blackthorn,
SPOILERS
You should talk to SharLet and ask about who went into the woods. Then follow up her lead and talk to the next person, etc, until you have more info to take to the sherif. Also, did you ask Niro about the dagger? Who did he say he lent it to?
The quest to find the murder of Annsen is at a stuck position for me. I cant persuade any town folk to give information have low charisma and very low persuade. Have found promise amulet (Un-inscribed) in cocoons outside town, Journal at campsite outside town, Journal pages and (Niros dagger) on Annsens body outside town, Journal in Annsens room, Jeweler did testify that it was a promise amulet bought as a pair.
The sheriff has acknowledged all of this but wants more, no one else will say anymore and all persuade checks are auto fails. Thinking of giving the town a once over and give them a few good reason to hate humans what else is needed this is frustrating. The read me says I need three of the six clues I got more then that and still nothing.

Enjoyed this mod better than the first two in the series, although they were very good.Really liked the use of cut-scenes.
