Description
The Third Age, 2956 Upon learning of Sauron's renewal, Elrond reveals to the child 'Estel' his legacy and destiny in turn: that he is Aragorn, true son of Arathorn II and bearer of the burdensome blood of weak-willed Isildur. Aragorn leaves Rivendell unsure of himself, but intent on disavowing the notion that Man's fate is already decided. Meanwhile, Gandalf the Grey continues to focus his wanderings around the Shire, south of ancient Eriador. He is aware that Saruman has taken up in Isengard, but does not know that the White Wizard has set spies upon him...spies that even now seek the source of Gandalf's interest in that backwater region. Amidst all of this, drawing in and out of civilization like waves upon a shore, are the Dunedain. Rangers are they, of an order that has outlasted their own Kingdom by a thousand years. The evil that rises to prominence in the East once fell their homes within the North. And they will not suffer it again without response.
OK.
Jksghvwq (or what ever your name is)
You have obviously never read the books! it is true that Gandalf is not a wizard in a dnd sense, but seriously! In the books he is using magic here and there. Magically locking/sealing doors; Trowing fireballs (ok, enchanted pine cons that burst in a cloud of fire) and other things that anyone would think is magic!
I the movies this was a different matter. there he really was "only" a wise one. and many other things magical have been omitted, too. this was bc Peter Jackson and the screen designers didn't want a "too fantasy them" in order to make it easier for ppl to associate with the movie.
There's this massive misconception floating around that Gandalf is supposed to be a spell-caster. Or any of the Istari, for that matter. Tolkien used the word "wizard" in its etymological sense, to mean "one who is wise". The fact that Gandalf was, in fact, a lesser god, does not mean that he actually had the ability to manifest visible magic into the world. He was a magical being, but he was not a spell-caster. Gandalf is not Merlin. Magic in Middle Earth was much more subtle than that.
That being said, whoever doesn't like this module is a communist and will eventually be captured.

I admire the attempt to put a Lord of the Rings-esk land inside NWN, but they game needs much work before it is even playable.
I played this game for about an hour and ran into two broken teleport/nextroom links. Going north from bree didn't trigger, and the Prancing Pony top floor was non-existent in my first play through. So I ended up having to restart the game twice to see if I was missing something.
This module frustrated me more then I enjoyed it, so I can't recommend this to anyone who isn't a total LOTR fan. Even then, it might be hard to get passed the fact that Gandalf's build is generally stale and boring to play.

Mr. Cheese its called game balance.
This module was great in the aspect of roleplay.
There was NOTHING I wouldn't expect Gandalf to say himself. I couldn't find anything lacking except that the module was perhaps too short and a bit too easy.
GREAT module! I'm going to try out your next one about Boromir.
Keep up the good work! ;)

This module truly pissed me off. Gandalf is a wimpy sorcerer-fighter who can only cast a few crappy spells. He has 14 Wisdom and Intelligence. Glamdring is a crap +1 weapon.
Instead of creatively trying to make the module challenging or interesting, the author has opted for the easiest possible way out: turn Gandalf into a wimp so that opponents such as wolves and goblins are not total pushovers.
I'm giving it a 1 because it's the only NWN module that's actually made me angry. Very angry.

I LOVED your Dunedain Module! It was just so intriguing and I just wanted to keep playing, on and on and on. Anyway, I was thinking about making a module of my own about Gandalf and was wondering how you got the grey robes, him to have a long beard, and his hat ect... I'm a real newcomer to module making. All I've done is a tutorial that introduced you to the basics and told you how to do areas, conversations, scripts, ect., and was wondering if you would have any advice for me on that sort of thing. (Modules) Oh, and, I tried emailing you with the address that was on your readme, [email protected] or something like that, and it didn't work.
Thanks,

(P.S. if you want to, you can email me at [email protected]. Thanks!)
1. Why use a huge area like this unless one want to stress CPU/Graphic card or test your patience when loading the main area?
2. Why put a map pin over the mayor house and not where the inn is located (trying to open all doors in a big village is not really fun)? There is also a map pin with the "enter text here" tag.
3. What's the point using such resting restriction when we are playing a mage? (see below)
* Spoilers *
4. After doing a few things I got stuck with no way to move the story forward. Went the wrong way only to see Gandalf dying of exhaustion.
Did the following:
1. Spoke with NPCs in village
2. Went to a place (North). Walked around the place and before I could prepare G for battle we were under attack. I assume that the Captain is immortal because he was the only one standing at the end with G. There is an area transition on the hill but did not have time to check it out (got teleported back to civilization).
3. Did the stuff for Perry (quest completed properly)
4. Did the part with the ambush
5. Back in town could not find the Mayor or the Captain.
Also I could not close the cow quest even if I had all evidences on hand.
Stuck because the only exit to the area seems to be North and I cannot go back there.
After the battle with the Orcs (why do they look like goblins?) G was wounded. Went back to the inn/room to rest but could not (should have tried the hobbit hole instead) as soon as the Endurance spell ended G was dead.

Awesome mod. _________________________ "Inconceivable!"
"That word... I do not think it means what you think it means."
Hey there. I downloaded the mod and I was about to play but then disaster came and Gandalf is not in my list of characters. I've copied all the folders to the respective ones but he just won't show up. Is there anything I can do?

Great mod, Archaic. It really captures the feeling of LOTR and it was fun to boot. Detailed, in depth dialogue and well-developed characters. This gets a 10 from me, no question about it. Thanks for a sweet module. You should really consider making a module based on the Fellowship, the Two Towers, and the Return of the King. Cheers! _________________________ "Inconceivable!"

The areas are too large, so the game runs slower, and the large areas are filled with little of interest, so exploring is boring and it takes a long time to walk places. The town has only two buildings oyu can go into. The plot is extremely linear. The dialog is very very good, but it alone does not save the module. There are occasional small bugs which are irritating, but no big deal. Gandalf seems exceptionally weak compared to the LOTR book (and Glamdring merely +1? - you gotta be kidding). But the final battle has such serious problems that the frustration of dealing with it drops the rating to a 2 - do not play this module unless you are exceptionally bored and don't mind not finsishing. SPOLIER: H was alive when I last saw him, but he was not at the final battle, so it was unclear how to keep a missing character "alive". After some experimentation, I dealt with the final battle by casting a "stinking cloud" or two to protect the rangers, then ran straight to the cheiftain and killed him. No rangersd appeared ot have died other than a few that were dead when I first arrived on the scene. After clearing out the remaining orcs, killed the warglord. Return to the battle. Still no sign of H. Talk to A. Nothing happens. Explore the whole map (boring), no obvious finish to the module. How frustrating.

nicely done and didn't find major bugs, loved the things Gandalf was saying, really gets you in the mood of the story, wished it lasted a bit longer

I didn't find too many bugs but I was not able to figure out the big battle with ORCS. They just keep respawning and it seems to become a Hack and Slash fest...very unlike the rest of the mod. Aragorn finally got killed and that killed me. I'll try again but I don't relish this kind of battle. What's to do? Just keep killin em I guess...try again....

well after getting in the inn at the beginning, going up the stairs and gone to sleep, i couldnt go anywhere else as the door didnt link anywhere... is that a bug or should i try it again? Also is this module for non-expension nwn or with?

Well, whether some beat the game or not, it didn't work for me.
I defeated the ranger and I can't tell Mr. Butterbeer at the inn that I found the guy.
I'm at a dead end.
If this is a bug with the new NWN 1.65 patch, do you plan on updating the mod? _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

I suspect that there ARE bugs in this module, as it was a pretty amateur effort. My second module (LotR: Sons of the Steward -linked on this page) was much more professionally crafted, and the scores and comments on that page will verify this claim.
I don't know, maybe it's my computer, but I also found a lot of bugs in this. It was too bad, because otherwise it was a good module and I really wanted to play it to the end.

Arconious,
I played both without any bugs at all. It may be something specific to your machine. NWN doesn't run as uniformly on all machines as it should.

Arconius, this was module #1 for me, and although it has a few bugs in it, it's been downloaded and beaten often enough to make me believe that it runs okay for a freshman effort.
As for Sons...well, read the message board there. Yours is one of the first genuine bug reports (in over 10,000 downloads) I've ever gotten. Don't exaggerate.

If my memory serves, there's a hak called "breestuff" included with this module, right? Does it have custom buildings for the rural tileset? (Because the ones in the original toolset are far from varied.) If there are, can I get only them from another hak or something like that, without downloading the whole module? I am currently logged in in Norway, so connection speed's a bit low..
