Description
UPDATED 11/29/04 - Version 1.06Long ago, the world of Sanctuary was ravaged by an eternal war between the angels of the High Heavens and the demons of the Burning Hells that had spilled over to the mortal realm. Thousands of years has passed since that great war, and the world of mortals has been flourishing. But an ancient evil is rearing its ugly head in Tristram, a small town in Khanduras. Now you have come back to Tristram, the place of your birth, because something deep inside you has beckoned you to return - and face your destiny... This module is a remake/reimagining of the original Diablo game published by Blizzard Entertainment in 1996, as well as its expansion Hellfire published by Sierra Online in 1997. This module is HEAVILY COMBAT-ORIENTED with very light role-playing. It is designed for single player but is totally accessible for multiplayer gaming.
The cep.tlk table associated with the CEP of this module. Only use this if you're having problems loading the module due to a missing custom .tlk table. Download this to your NWN's /tlk folder.
ok so even though I made a tlk folder I still get the same message saying that I'm missing the talk file. Can someone please please help me.

Even if you're not into combat-heavy modules, this is one of the best games (not just modules) in Neverwinter Nights. There's terrific replay value, scripting, mapwork, and quest content.
While it's best with a group who are willing to play this for a few days, you can play singleplayer or on public. Although it may be tricky to download the large add-on files or install CEP, this really is a treasure trove of content and a validation of how great NWN1's toolset is.

Definitely the best game adaptation I have ever seen in Neverwinter Nights, a majestic labor of love. Not only does Tristram and its underground dungeons or outskirts look and sound better than ever, but they have all been well balanced, in order to bring the chaos of the original into the capabilities of the aurora engine, joining the best of both worlds.
There are only little details I disliked. For starters, I encountered two annoyances: Whenever you start a conversation with Farnham, you get the option to persuade him into talking without giving him a bottle of ale, however, I discovered several times that not only does the character give the ale, but all of the items stacked! If you have 10 ales, they all go! On the other hand, we have Graushnak the Weak (I don't remember its name very clearly), who is supposed to speak to you at different times along the game, but if you are attacked by enemies having already found him, he turns hostile, and so the quest is lost. I'm guessing this is a matter of faction.
Anyway, one thing about Diablo and Hack'n'slash in general, is the astounding amount of enemies fighting you at the same time. While I hate this personally, and prefer good RPG and conversation in-between battles every now and then, I guess to each his/her own; however, in this module adaptation, enemies appear out of thin air, which I find annoying. Why not make the triggers fire a little earlier, so it gives the impression adversaries are not spun out of nowhere. This is particularly clear when they come from behind.
As much as I would like the author to take such suggestions into consideration, I know this is an old module, Neverwinter Nights is slowly being abandoned, and such implementations would require a great amount of time and work. Anyway, just pointing out the dents in an otherwise superb module.
Sadly, The Lord of Destruction was never released as a single player module; it would have been a blast to start that one after this. But, Tolitzrosel, my hat goes to you, even after what you did to the henchmen. Man, just like Blizzard, you didn't pull any stops, did you? I know who those guys are, and how they ended up. It is one thing to find Griswold as an undead years later, Wirt's other leg lost somewhere in Loarderon, Cain in a cage, but actually hearing Jarulf speak of no more war or death for him and his family?, seeing how enthusiastic Janna was about her achievements?... it really brought an emptiness to my stomach. You are cold! ;D
Hey, Ive been playing this module for the last few days and its pretty awesome! its just completely outstanding. Im using a none updated version of the game with the expansions.
Anyways I started a new multi game, cleared part of level 1 and went onto level 2. Cleared the water supply area out and went back to town cause i was overweight.
Talking to the Tavern guy and I suddenly started getting attacked by Deese. I obviously attacked back, when I highlighted his name it says "Near Death" and his names showing in white?
Then Cain, Gillian, and Griswold also joined in the fight (On my side)... along with cains summoned beasts.
Is this meant to happen in the game? As ive googled things to do with DEESE and him attacking but can't find anything, seems like a bug to me but I don't understand.
He wont die, Me (level 8) and cain, gillian and griswold and cains summoned creatures have been attacking Deese none stop for over 20 minutes straight and he still isn't dying. He's showing Red when highlighted and still says near death.
Anyone else had this happen? - Is it a bug? And can he be killed?
I got plenty of screenshots and even saved the multi game if anyone wants it so they can also see it.
Let me know pls as it doesnt seem like hes going to die :S
Been way over 20mins already of constant attacking.

I wanted to play a half Orc Barbarian, but I could not. Everytime that I finished a task, my alignment change several points to lawful. I did not get far before I became a lawful character and was unable to continue as a barbarian.
Is there something I can do to change this? Can I disable the alignment shifting some how? Or can I do something to shift towards chaotic?

Seriously. BEST Multiplayer module we have EVER played.
Some great idea's, an absolute ton of fun.
(First thing I did was update CEP but that was inconsequential only for comfort really)
Loved. Thanks from me and my 6 players that did this ever Sunday night for 4 hours for a couple months.

Wow! Great hack-and-slash! I enjoyed this game most of the part, except perhaps some of the dungeons which contains only ants and wererats, which really bored me to tears. At the end I tried to see if there is a way to not pluck that damn soulstone to my character's head, but no luck. =P
Has anybody managed to get this to work with PRC? PRC 3.3g's module updater doesn't seem to like this module, either with prcc1 or prcc2.
Nice work, and thanks!

I originally started this module with a sorcerer/RDD, but found it too tedious and difficult, so I restarted with a cleric and from there on it was mostly a breeze, though it did get tougher toward the end. As advertised, this is indeed a hack-and-slash module, and a pretty good one. There was enough of a story to keep me interested, tons of side-quests, and a good variety of monsters. I particularly liked how they tended to sneak up from behind, often attacking while I was already engaged in a battle, or how they'd ambush me in a room I thought I had cleared. That said, as I mentioned, the battles were fairly easy, and at times it did get tedious fighting the same monsters over and over again. The forest was particularly annoying - wandering around in darkness is not fun, and it didn't make the game more suspensful, just more annoying. Also, while the lootable corpses do add a bit of realism, whenthere was a pile up it made searching the bodies mildly annoying. Also, the barrels that have to be smashed open in the early levels were a little tiresome as well.
The author did a good job of slowly making magic items and treasure available. There's very little of either early on, but as the game progresses the wealth begins to pile up, and customized - and often powerful - magic items begin to show up. I always appreciate it when a module maker goes to the trouble to create a lot of custom items, as it's a lot more fun than simply finding the same standard stuff. The author suggests hoarding your money until you reach 20th level, and the best gear becomes available from the shops, but I wouldn't advise this. I followed his advice, but found that when the best gear became available, I was already equipped with a lot of comparable stuff that I had found adventuring, and I didn't really want to buy anything because I knew I was likely to find the things I was looking for. I'd suggest judiciously buying items you need as you go through the module. Save your money, but don't hoard it. That said, you probably don't need to buy much unless you're playing a weak character. I made it through pretty easily without buying anything other than potions, some resurrection scrolls, and two bags of holding.
The custom music in this module was excellent, particularly in the bishop's sanctum and in Diablo's lair. Any change from the usual fare is welcome, and the music chosen for this module was particularly atmospheric and often times dramatic, and it really enhanced my enjoyment of the game.
Overall, the author did a very good job building this module. I had a fairly good time playing it, but it doesn't quite rank up there with the best. I don't know that I'll ever replay it -- I had fun, but in the end, it's a lot of repetitious battles, and I don't think I'd get anything new out of playing it again.

Just a great module. Anyone wants to play multiplayer; please add my Msn: [email protected]
@ FeriumX: Well, I hope you can still enjoy the game even with those "white-outs" :) Or maybe you can get the time to address those video drivers. In any case, good luck and have fun with the module!
Unfortunately, LoT is the first and only module I have created for NWN... I was planning a prequel a few years ago, but the amount of time I had to invest on creating it pretty much discouraged me from completing it (Lord of Terror took me almost 8 months to finish, just to give you an idea). But thanks for the interest, I appreciate it!

Thanks for the help. To be honest with you, since I posted that thread I hadn't been able to come up with any other ideas about a fix. However, I've been trying to get DDO running on my computer which I have to do through WINE and I haven't been having much luck. Every time I tried to load it I'd get the same error. When I was looking for a fix for that I found that I wasn't the only one getting that same message and other people had to deal with the S3TC compression issue. I was starting to wonder if that was the problem. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to attempt to build a graphics driver for my video card from scratch, and I'm not sure if I'm up to it. However, I greatly appreciate your quick response and dedication to your most excellent mod. I can still play I just have to deal with a few things being boring old white, lol.
FeriumX
P.S. Are there any other mods you've made for NWN?

I installed the LOT and I have to admit I am really enjoying it. Just a small problem. I seem to be missing some textures. I followed your suggestions and installed the CEP. When that didn't work, I tried an updated version, 1.52, and then added their patch that allows it to be fully compatible with NWN 1.68. That still didn't fix the problem, so I checked again that all of the mod files were installed in the right places. It might also help to mention that I'm using a Linux machine, and I have to do all of these installations manually, so I realize I may have made a mistake. Any suggestions?

Why, thank you, friend! It's just I am not very fond of unending legions of monsters striking at me while I try to enjoy the more subtle aspects of a game/module. I will now download your Diablo adaptation!
The module doesn't have respawning monsters except for the forest clearing... it just looks like they're respawning sometimes because of the some encounters that are triggered behind you that you don't get to attack, hence when you come back to that area, there they are :)
Just a quick thanks to everyone who played and are still playing the module. The official site for the module is back up (nwn.tolitz.com) so if you have any questions on quests or need a walkthrough, just visit it. Thanks again!

Very good module. Well structured quests, nice dialogues, lots of roleplaying :)
Just the crashes destroying saves were somewhat annoying.

Hi, I would like to know if this module uses monster respawning on a regular basis. Hope someone can tell me. Thanks in advance.

I've registered to the site just to vote for this excellent work.
Today I've finished LoT after playing for three days. My Paladin reached lvl 27.
But the walkthough is unavailable right now. So I had a couple of quests unfinished.

Um ..see above post .... thats how you get it to work with NWN 169 and CEP 2.2. and follow the link in Rycalawre previous post to get the CEP critical files and then find a copy of CEP 151. It will work alongside with your current CEP 2.2.
As someone pointed out earlier it could take the Author a great deal of time and work to bring it up to date. It took me twenty minutes to DL what I needed and install.
if anyone is reading this, first of all please don't flame me for posting on something old. This could really be useful should it be updated for CEP 2.2 and 1.69. I am sure MANY people would enjoy playing this through. just puttin it out there, maybe someone can do this- I have neither the time nor the knowledge to do so but would appreciate any work towards this. :) _________________________ I lolzorz @ j0ur paffetik gramerz!

Hey Thanks Rycalawre for the link there, that worked a treat. I had a slight problem with the CEP 152 install. The full list of HAK files needed to run the mod are -
The last six of these are NOT in the CEP Critical Files .zip, you have to install earlier CEP version to get them.
Heres what I did to get the mod working -
1. Follow the link
2. DL the CEP critical files, unzip and put them in you NWN HAK folder.
3. Full Install CEP v. 150 or 151 (I used 151) and this will place the rest of the missing files in your HAK folder. For some reason CEP 152 full install does NOT have the missing files.
4. Play!
So far everything works well, I still have CEP 2.2 installed and nothing is conflicting ...
Thanks again Rycalawre and also the Authors of Tortured Hearts II for listing how to fix this ...
It's a shame that the very detailed and helpful walkthrough that Tolitz had up and running for a long time has gone completely offline. I went through this great piece of work no less than two years ago, and now that I decided to give it another shot, I completely forgot how to solve certain key quests. Any kind soul who happens to be well versed in this awesome module could remind me how to enter the Temple & Caverns at the Forest of Khanduras? (and I bet I'll slap my forehead and yell "but of course!" when someone tells me!)
I want to get this working too. How have some of you made this work are you just running earlier versions of the game. They deff need to update this to cep 2 and 1.69
I really do hope you update the game for 1.69 and the current CEP, cause i want to play this, and im having one hell of a time trying to get this up and running. Keep getting a missing custom talk file or something, ive downloaded almost a dozen files in an attempt to play this, alas nothing has worked so far.
