Description
This adventure is a sequel to the module Midwinter Festival, and a character exported from the conclusion of that module should be used for this game. Alternatively, a new 10th level character can be used. Troubled times are plaguing the desert city of Yylarium. An unnaturally harsh winter and prolonged drought concern a populace fearful of thirst, starvation, and the possibility of war. With political tensions running high, the PC must take sides in a fierce internal struggle to determine who will be the next ruler of the desert Emirates. The PC becomes reacquainted with Kama, a Knight Panther who is first encountered in Midwinter Festival. For this module, it is intended that Kama is treated as a traveling companion, and not merely as a henchman/henchwoman. She will have valuable contributions to make to this adventure once she is asked to join you, and she provides much of the motivation for the module Midsummer Knights' Dream.

Good Afternoon Marc,
Well done on Midwinter Festival, Midsummer Knight and Midnight Calling! I enjoyed all and really, really thank you for the 'boots of speed' in MNK. I found two things in MNC that struck me and one was hilarious. That's when the Ogre Berserkers in the barn, SE Desert, literally flopped down and went to sleep after my PC told them they were relieved. Now that was funny! Kama then promptly shot them without my PC telling her to. What's with her? The other was the sky writing in Ra's Temple. It was totally unexpected. Nice touch. One more thing, (spoiler), was putting Alovina's note in the skull. I couldn't leave Yylarium until I'd read it. That was very devious. The only sad thing I have to say is the episodes, for me, were too short. I seemed to just get into them when they came to an end. Wish they all had been longer.
To save time, I'm going to post these same comments on the NWN websites for your games and cast my vote of ten for all three. I haven't checked yet but will now, to see if you have any other endeavors available.
Thanks again, Marc, for all of your hard work for us gamers and your personal assistance to me when asked.

Very nice adventure!

Very nice continuation of the previous mod. Very cool story - I really enjoyed the political aspect, and the way the religions play into it.
Combat for the most part seemed very well balanced for my monk; would have been nice to see some more monk gear available, but all in all the gear that is available is about right.
Not sure if it's a bug or what, but I found it odd that you can buy/find more than one waterskin, but only one of them ever seems to be used.

Wonderful gaming experience! Use of music, Kama's character, and background in politics. Excellent story..... That is the thing! I have played the trilogy 3 times to enjoy the whole story. Thanks for your HARD work and desire to share your work with the rest of us in the community! _________________________ Durned Elf..

An all-around good module that improves over its predecessor. The fights are challenging, but not frustrating, there's a lot less backtracking, the henchman is useful (and has some personality), and the areas are better designed overall. The story nicely merges political intrigue with exploration, and while it isn't exceptional, it kept my interest and moves along well. The dialogue is well-written, both for the PC and the NPCs, gold and magic is handed out sparingly, which kept things challenging, and made each reward worthwhile, and the module has a fun, exotic feel to it. Visually, it looks good as well, with the author including a variety of different areas and making good use of some custom tilesets. And finally, the various encounters and challenges are well-designed, with each offering different challenges, instead of simply one fight after another.
My biggest complaint about the module is that there are times where I got stuck, or wasn't sure what to do next, and the documentation wasn't helpful. There are a few spoilers, but no walkthrough, and there were two instances where I had to tediously go through the postings here, hoping that someone had run into the same problems I had. There were also a couple of times where I had to stumble around almost aimlessly, and was only able to proceed because I got lucky and stumbled upon the right way to proceed.
Overall, although I wasn't blown away, this was a solid, well-crafted, well-written, fun module with few flaws.

I'm flattered that the story is deep enough for you to even suggest such a question. However, the module sticks pretty closely to the Egyptian pantheon, with some creative input on my part, and without any attempt to navigate modern religion. Set worshippers are in no way monotheistic - they believe in the other deities, they just don't like them much. :-)
I finished the first episode recently and am just now starting the second, and I have a silly question for you. When reading some of the dialogue about the past battles between the alliance of Bast, Ra, and Osiris against Set, this struck me as a parallel to the crusades, i.e. Christianity and trinitarian beliefs (Bast, Ra, Osiris) and Islam and strictly monotheistic beliefs (Set). Obviously these are all pagan, egyptian deities that have been incorporated into this gameworld, but was this allussion intended or am I pulling it out of thin air? Thanks.

A 10, just for one of my favorites around. I was really surprised and amazed by such a quality, imagination, writing and the very " the author is a player himself " feeling you get as soon as you run into a few ideas he had to make your journey easier and funnier, very surprised by the quality of the very first module already, as It's most of the time the training one, the scratchy feeble one before the masterpiece. The story is one of those who interest me the most from the few I went through within the NWN world. The writing is strong, smart, with many dialog options and everyone of them followed 'till the different endings. Any time something happens, you feel like you've never seen it before. I mean, almost... And if you ever come to a dream as you're playing this module, be careful as it might simply... happen.
Marc Price, the author, not only wrote a very intensive storyline here, but, as if it wasn't enough, he really took care of providing one of the most difficult combats I ever faced. Nothing like tons of easy ones jumping on you from nowhere at the same time, but just one or maybe two, but... strong, the kind you can see from a distance... but doesn't run away. And even keeps talking about this and that as you're approaching, you and your weapons. You know, the confident kind. Well, they ended up dying at some point anyway, as being a hero I'm supposed to make this world better. But so did I, a couple of times.
One thing I'll remember here was entering that village and thinking that could be a real one. Those people were so true, walking, chatting, arguing, shouting.... Almost breezing. And if you ever happen to talk to some beautiful witch, beautiful but seated, you'll realize when you're done speaking that you have to get up. As Marc made you seat to talk to her...
Simple, human, elegant. Necessary.
Essential.
This is where I see the difference. Another trigger from 5000, just for something which is not plot-important. So you think you could just skip that one. Some do. Some don't. Huge difference. A difference between laziness and talent. Or passion. Or desire. Enjoy. As much as the goblins...
As much as I loved Part 1 & 2, I didn't feel as much about the 3rd one and I hope I will be forgiven for saying this. My cleric ( perfect class in my opinion. ) was probably so exhausted after all she went through, she couldn't see the beauty of anything anymore.
I had the best time.
Thanks Marc. _________________________ @ + jml, level 52

Here's one I couldn't find, maybe someone can answer this. I don't know how but I did not bring a waterskin into the module, nor can I find one anywhere, and so I cannot enter the desert. Is there a waterskin availble to buy or find anywhere, or do I need to restart with one already on the character? None of the merchants in Ylarium had one. _________________________ NWN, Elder Scrolls, KOTOR, Arcanum, Indiana Jones

Great! _________________________ "They're not taking advantage of me! I'm the one taking advantage of them!

I saved a game at the Panthers' fortress. When loading it, the first thing that happens is a quest update about me recovering the Flight Crystal from the Midnight Fortress. I have been to the Midnight Fortress, but I sure don't remember finding the crystal there, and I got no quest update there even if I did.
I saved a game at the Panther's secret fortress, and now when I load it the first thing that happens is that I get a quest update about recovering the Flight Crystal from the Midnight Fortress, and it actually appears in my inventory.
I've been to the Midnight Fortress, but I'm sure I did not recover any crystal from there (I only got as far as the big locked door).

Another great module. Love the plot and thought that it was really creative. A few typos here and there, but it doesn't detract from the story itself. It really pulls you in. A must play. Now I'm looking forward to part 3!
Thank you so much for your comments. It warms me when I see you've enjoyed the series to this extent. I've tried to create a memorable set of adventures with interesting plots and unique characters. I am happy to be able to share it!
Best regards,
-Marc

MikeLM9215 - I have to disagree with your comments, esp the environmental effects. While in the village or a city with ready access to water, I would raise a fit if forced to have such penalties applied. But as a desert dweller, I also would know of the hazards of leaving water behind, so carrying a bag is no real cause for concern; more of a habit.
While I do not recall the hidden trap door remaining hidden, there are plenty of explanations for having a one way portal, or making it very difficult to relocate. Seen this happen a lot in films.
For me, this is the gem of the series, esp with the political plot of the mod. I usually loathe such intririgue, and the author has made this a huge success. I do not understand why you seem a bit harsh on this series, as it far above the standard of most desert mods.

Though you have to carry a water bag, there is no penalty for not filling up with water like in the sequel. After you find the hidden base you are returned to the map where it is still hidden after exiting. Lots of little things take from the enjoyment. Still good over-all. _________________________ The road to Ravenloft is paved with good intentions.

Definitely more polished than the original Midwinter Festival module (not that that module was terribly unpolished to begin with), even though the playing time is shorter. So what? It feels like there is more interesting stuff packed into a smaller space this time. I love desert locales, and while it's true that the module is based around what is essentially a scavenger-hunt quest, the experience is a lot more varied than repetitive tomb raiding. The Castle on a Cloud, for example, was a real treat for me.
The henchman, Kama, is also a major improvement over the first game's henchman. This time, the player has a human warrior helping her instead of a feline rogue--cats are cute, but Kama beats Notable in the realm of usefulness. Also, she truly is an actual companion instead of just a soulless soldier, and she often will pipe up with something to say. I enjoyed the plot--I've played similar "political" plots before, and while I'm not going to say it was the best example of politics I've *ever* seen in a module, I will say that it was very well-done, and featured interesting personalities.

Just as enjoyable as the first.
However I have a problem
****SPOILER*****
I cannot seem to reach the cloud city. There is no option when speaking to the dragon, other than something like, "Oh I'll come back later." Nothing else.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Outstanding! A fine achievment in CRPG storytelling from start to finish, and leaves the player wanting even more.

Just getting started, but this is what I am talking about! I am so pleased to see you have the precognitive forsight to implement so many of the suggestions I made in the prequel just this month! What a co-ink-a-dink! :D
The depth of the dialogue is amazing, I luv the varied NPC's (both newbies & those who were in MWF), and the strength of the main storyline being tightly woven with the sub-quests.
*SPOILER*
Absolutely luv the flaming airship and related quests. Because I had played MWF, I was half-thinking that it was Mr Stun Grenades that had accidently torched the craft. Glad to see the levity and humor mixed so well with the the unusually captivating political themes.
Most Excellent thus far!

I thoroughly enjoyed this mod.
I especially loved the old characters that resurfaced from the first mod like Tybalt and Jao, and even Vendrill who's rather fun to push around.
I love how my character keeps getting more and more immersed in the world around her.
So again, great job! Can't wait to dig into Midnight.
That's correct; Kama does not level up, but you should find plenty of equipment to improve her fighting skills considerably, so keep her well equipped. This design decision seemed to provide the most balance. Enjoy!
