Enjoyable module. I had previously played the old version, but the newer one looks much better.

Outstanding start to a series. Beautifully crafted, and great pacing.

Berliad? Wow a blast from the distant past... Good to see you around again.

Just posting to say I had no trouble playing through this module using NWN 1.68. Had to download the 1.68-compatible CEP 1.52, and then "upgraded" that to CEP 1.53. It's a bit of a runaround, but it works fine.
Also, this was my second time playing through, and the magic is still there. This is such a fun, unique module to play. Somehow, probably because it's so rare to have to do it (I wouldn't want to do it every time), I really enjoyed running around town trying to scrounge up 20 gp so I could buy some gear. Hint: sell your books! And that gear turned out to be studded leather armor and a club! Yikes. When I upgraded to Chain Mail and a Morningstar at the end of the mod I felt positively wealthy...
Beyond that, the townspeople are all very well conceived in that close-minded, small town kind of way. We didn't see a ton of it, but did get to feel something of the depth of the FR setting in some places as well. As before, it's a module recommended to anyone. _________________________ My NWN Blog FRW Character Creator
Please disregard the previous comment. The problem wasn't with the module, but with my PC's portrait file. I played through with a different PC without problems.
I was expecting an actual finale to the module, however. The final journal entry told me to sell my loot and say goodbye to Dillan and Leah before going to Silverymoon. I was able to say goodbye to my mentor (Merrick), but there is no similar dialog for Dillan and Leah. They just say "Let's have a drink," but there is no farewell. The path to Silverymoon never opens up. Have I missed something?
I'm having a major problem with Chapter 1 of Saleron's Gambit. Save game files associated with the module quickly become corrupted and I can't reload them. Also, at many points when I try to save the game, NWN will freeze up. Has anybody else had these problems? Is there any fix for them? I'd very much like to play such a well-regarded module. Thanks.
I've been having trouble downloading the SG Series HakPak as when I go to download it, it opens as a Adobe Photoshop Elements file rather than a Hak file I can save. When I usually download Hak files, I can then extract them but with this one it automatically opens Adobe Photoshop Elements. Because I cannot download the Hak, I also cannot play the game so I would like to know how to fix this problem. Thanks.

Hard to vote on this one. I liked, a lot. But cant put a finger on what is it that's so enjoyable about it. Great job! Definitely gonna play the follow up, and maybe replay this with other chars.

CEP experimentation complete. CEP is not backwards-compatible enough to allow using a later version than the one the mods were designed for. A missing bar counter here and a statue there ... fine. Some major stuff breaks later on, however. Foremost in my mind -- in SG2 -- the container which holds "crustweed" doesn't spawn killing a quest and one option to complete another, and the elevators in the Lady's College do not exist.
I have had some success, however, with adding CEP 2 to the required hakpaks but listed lower on the priority list. Why? Basically for in-game character editing. Some of those programs will allow you to change your head, the look of a weapon, shields, armor, etc, and will include the greater number of options in the newer CEP. So, yes, you can add a newer CEP, but you will still need the older CEP to get through the modules.

I'm definitely not a PNP player, but I found the style of this adventure quite refreshing, and the balance between RP and action just right. The low-magic low-wealth setting was really well done, and is frankly much more realistic than having a 1st level character running around with magic swords and full plate armours. Recommended to everyone.

I'm planning on replaying this tomorrow (5th time? 6th?), but will use the toolset to try and "weld on" the latest CEP.
If anyone's curious, I'll post what works and what doesn't. (Shiny metal colored robes are usually a given ... but that's what character customizers are for.)

Glad I could help. I thought exactly like you and had the same trouble. The cep team really should include all the old files in the latest release. This would prevent a lot of frustration.
Thank you Dwayne. I didn't realize that and figured that the most current CEP would contain all the content of the previous versions

This module does not use the latest cep. You have to install the 1.53 cep and the 1.68 update cep for the module to work. The latest cep does not have the right files for this module.
I tried to load up the module and it tells me I am missing a required talk table. Anyone know what I may need to do? I have the .hak file installed in my hak folder and have the latest CEP and updated NWN to 1.69. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Very nice work! I, for one, loved that the PC stayed at level 1 for the entire first chapter. It feels more 'real'. I thought the castle was very interesting and the storyline as a whole made me really want to keep playing the series. I'm getting close to finishing chapter 2 now and will vote on that when I'm done.
I am very glad that you added the option to use the original NWN resting/recovery. I think gradual hitpoint recovery is a great idea for hardcore players, but I play games to relax, not to get irritated. So kudos for giving us options, it was a great addition!
Thanks for your hard work, great job! _________________________ The less you know, the more you believe.

I forgot...
Warnings and spoilers:

General: A spellcaster could easily destroy some major plot placables with heavy area spells, 'thinking of the the Lost Shrine of Bordoc in Part IV. So I never met my PC's true mother... ;-)
for Part 5 mostly but maybe not only: A couple of triggers are a bit uneasy to fire, if you run a bit fast over them to start some other action maybe, and could leave you with some unfinished quests...
'just remembering that Aegilaus wizard body, part 5, for instance. I hate those area triggers anyway most of the time...)

I had the most wonderful time with this entire Saleron's Gambit story, from 1 to 5.
It's amazingly smart because it's so easy going on the technical side that I only felt like playing all along.
Easy going doesn't mean simple as it's probably the most complicated but masterminded module I ever enjoyed.
XPs come as they should, no matter how you went through each quest.
Monsters aren't everywhere but only where they're meant to be, but still waiting for you... even with Tony K's AI.
No magical gear. It's all about you, almost naked but with your own experience of " life " and nothing else.
When I start a new module my first concern is always which class I should pick. Most of the authors don't say much about it, which I can understand, but...
I'm glad I chose to play as a wizard...ess here, as it fits the module so fine. And then it gets really magical, even if it is already by itself. Magic and magical gears are different things.
I learned there how important it is to choose any one of your spells very carefully... even the low levels ones. As I had to use all of them in many occasions. Even if resting is not a problem.
It's beautiful. Those cities are the finest I ever visited... in NWN.
So real. A true dive in history.
And that surprising music was always around to give you the mood... if not the creeps.
Thanks Mr. Tiberius209, I believe your in the rocket thingy and from now on, I won't be so scared any more of flying into space 'knowing you're somewhere behind it.
That comment goes for any of the five parts of the module.
Which one I like the best? I wouldn't have enjoyed the fifth one so much if I hadn't played the ones before... before. _________________________ @ + jml, level 52

This series is in each and every aspect the most brilliant, entertaining and rewarding experience I have found in the NWN multiverse so far. An absolute must!
I actually meant the official patch 1.69, not CEP. There's been some reports of conflict with some modules with the new patch (with the addition of horses and stuff).
I'm told that the hak is damaged when I try to download it (and, indeed, it doesn't work) =(

Wow! I haven't had this much fun with a fan based (heck! official) campaign in a long time! The bugs were so few and minor that I never took note of them. I've played through all 5 parts (had some difficulty with the 4th and 5th, but, managed through) with a wizard and it was amazing. Reminded me of my days sitting in our living room with paper, pen and dice in hand. Thank you! _________________________ Well...who would have thought THAT would happen?
