The Kingdom of Cormyr is in a state of turmoil. Orcs and goblins have been attacking a few of its towns and cities. Its ruler, King Azoun IV recently perished, and the heir to the throne is the infant King Azoun V. In his stead, Princess Alusair Obarskyr rules Cormyr as regent. It is in this kingdom where your adventure begins. You have received a letter from your mentor, Sir Breven Strongblade, a Purple Dragon Knight, to travel to Cormyr, more specifically to its capital, the City of Suzail. He mentions that it is of great importance to you and the kingdom. So with a few supplies, and Sir Breven's letter in hand, you head for Suzail, unaware that your own epic story is about to unfold.

Solid Module, good story, decent range of side quests. Dissappointed there never was a sequel to this one! Enjoyed the module and appreciate the hard work that went into making this.
Great so far! When will Chapter 2 be ready? Please say it will be soon. Thanks!

Well I had expected a bit more from this one. It´s okay , but not as good as the rating let me believe.
You could see this module as a promise for more, which explains the high rating I guess, but unfortunately in the end its rather unfinished.
If it really would be the first of a campaign I would rate it around 9, but so its not even an 8 for me.

I enjoyed this module thoroughly. The story was engaging and the tilesets (especially the forests) were great. Good dialogue, fantastic cutscenes and great use of the Journal. The main quest had lots of parts, plus there were many sub-quests. There are two quests that can get you Lawful points, which is a nice plus. Looting everything in sight will result in Chaotic points, as it should. There are items you can obtain that will only be used in later Chapters - very kewl. I see that a lot of time has passed since release. Dare I hold onto hope for Chapter 2?
Fun - 9, Layout/Design - 9, Dialogue - 10, Originality/Creativity - 10, Quality Control - 10, Overall - 9

Excellent module. One of the best I've played. Minor typos here and there but otherwise practically flawless.

It's a good mod , but I found a bug(?). A gnome shopkeeper gave me a quest kill the giant spider in thje storage. After I've killed the spider in the warehouse (and looted all the treasures in both rooms) and tried to trade with the gnome merchtant the mod freezes.I can't buy anythig from him, but i've finished the mod.Good work.

I enjoyed this module. The story was good and paced fairly well. I did have a few minor issues with enemies staying blue and not attacking me, but aside from that the module seemed technically solid. While some of the side quests were a bit simplistic, all of them were fun and enjoyable without becoming annoying.
I played this module when it was first released and I thought that the story was not half bad.
I would love to play it one day. _________________________ Coen

A full year has passed since Charly last worked on DE2, and NWN2 is here. It seems likely DE2 will never be completed.
Therefore, DE1 is not particularly worth playing. 2/3rds of the quests are rat and courier runs, and several of them are rather lame (e.g. the food deliveries, and multiple "critters in the storage room"). Most of the interesting plot developments are either "(NOT) to be continued", or inexplicably ignored (e.g. why did the goblins want that farm so badly?)

This module gets itself off to a fine start, with a few nice beginning quests. The author has evidently paid attention to how to make cutscenes, and does a good job with this.
There were some problems, though. A couple of quests required difficult persuades, but the module only allows characters to get up to around level 5, so it's unlikely that many characters could complete these. An adjustment should be made here.
Some treasure locations were unrealistic. Who leaves their gold in a tree? Would a farmer greedy enough to try to take over his neighbor's property leave gold outside his farm in barrels and crates for anyone to take?
I'm assuming that people who rated the module higher than this were counting on having a second part to play. With NWN2 coming out, and the author's move, that's looking increasingly unlikely. As a standalone, this module feels relatively short, and incomplete. About half the quests never finished. Players that need all plot ends tied up, and aren't looking to use this to get a character up to around level 5 before dumping unnecessary items and trying some other module, should look elsewhere.
There were a large number of spelling/grammar errors, which I've included for the author. I've put them at the bottom of this review so that other readers can easily skip them and not get bored.

Pretty good, except some optional quests which were too simple (buying supplies for the temple for example).

Carlos, excellent module! Like many others, I'm very much looking forward to the sequel. Thank so much for taking your time to create this module.
What I Loved:
1) Great use of cut scenes.
2) Great linear and non-linear plot balance.
3) Plenty of side-quests.
4) I found no bugs.
5) Excellent balance of combat, plot, traps, and games.
6) Excellent pacing (didn't level up too quickly or too slowly).
7) Great item selection and balance.
My few suggestions:
1) I would have loved to see more character development in NPC's. I really didn't get to "know" anyone (does that make sense?) outside of Lord so-n-so in Waymont, and a little bit from each farmer at the beginning.
Thanks again for such an amazing module. It's definitely worth a replay and I recommend this to anyone who loves DND and NWN.
Thanks,
Caedmon

Any news on the sequel? I fear that the news would be sad... But it'd be nice to hear even the bad news. Or some expression of uncertainty. Anything. Just considering using my character from chapter 1 elsewhere... : )
Actually, I'd be very surprised if the author had decided to finish the sequel. Giving up on the project would be totally understandable, I think.

Good start to the series. I had a few graphics glitchs with armor exchanging when not in combat. Also, the forest was obscured if you used the overhead view. Keep up the good work. _________________________ Gwendolyn

Speaking of the cutscenes, some of then are at "eye level", and if you're a dwarf or halfling, you won't be able to read the dialog...
