"I would do it the way around. The module starts with an item strip. Good we level the playing field. From there one could let the guys fights with no or little magic and see what the characters can really do (innate powers)."
Fair points in your post. Regarding the above quote, this is already implemented for PVP mode. As far as PVE mode goes, preset monsters are in no way any match for a same level player, and there are a million ways to set up a custom monster. Randomizing their stats & abilities would defeat the purpose of your suggestion above, so the only way to really add a decent challenge was to create an environment where you start with a number of variables that comprise the challenge and then A - build a viable character, and B - figure out the game strategy. Making a PVE arena game isn't as cut and dry as one may think, especially given the already quite shallow NWN combat system. Make a mod with default monsters coming at a player character and watch how fast you get bored.
Thanks for your comments. I does sound, however, like you didn't quite get the point of the mod. Nonetheless, I assure you. Making this mod was a massive scripting undertaking, and was described as being "groundbreaking" in terms of what the Aurora Toolset can do. As far as playing the mod itself, unless you are a die hard character builder, you probably won't get more than one play-through out of it. If you get that far. If you want a more realistic challenge, as I suspect your post is indicating. Check out my adventure module Shadows of Darkmoon. Should provide you with some fun hopefully.
Putting the couple of spam post below this one aside (no we don't want no sticking "unline stor") I tend to agree with the less enthusiastic players.
I only tried it solo facing the enemies one at a time in the arena. The challenge is either deadly or very easy (but slow and tedious). It only deadly (for the PC) if you go fight something unequipped and unprepared. Otherwise the first three creatures are easy to handle. It took some trial and error to dispatch the valdar. For the bard and kamaji, a lucky dev crit did the trick. At that point I got bored and decided not to continue. If one is patient enough, to win all you have to do is to fight the same creature over and over until you get the books you want. Next spend your gold/bronze to upgrade your gear based on the next opponent attributes.
Again, this does not look like a contest about how good your char is or how well you can play in a real time combat situation (pause button disable) but more like adding immunities and damage type to your gear to kill the next opponent. A five years old could do that no?
I would do it the way around. The module starts with an item strip. Good we level the playing field. From there one could let the guys fights with no or little magic and see what the characters can really do (innate powers).
Just my two cents.

You can also download Cep 1.53. I would download the .zip version, and just copy and paste!

I am using NWN 1.69 + (SoU & HotU & CEP 2.2)with Windows 7. I fixed the problem.
Download Cep 1.52 and copy only the HAK and TLK folder.
What a pitty. The module could not work under 1.69+CEP2.1. When I tried to open it with toolset, it said "xxxx hakpaks are not found".

Fantastic! Finally something worthy to do if you managed to max out your character.
I went through MORIA ETERNAL to levelup my fresh character to level 40 within less than 10h, and was happy to see that my build fared pretty well.
many thanks for such a great mod! you showed the possibilities of proper skripting very well.

Nevermind the above, it seems ok when I finally tried the hardcore difficulty. It has been fun.

Great mod so far! A problem though, I challenged the MC (the angel) at medium difficulty and won, but recieved nothing and the arena keeps telling me I must finish the duel. I went to the angel and challenged him again, hard difficulty this time. Won and the same thing happened. Any solutions?
Thanks.
Cep 2 and onword uses a different hak system then cep 1.5x (the cep 1.5x haks are not in the v2 installs). Seeing as installing two seperate versions tends to cause my NWN to go crazy at startup this module will have to wait. It looks quite nice though, wish I could play it without compromising a bunch of other modules I play.

Commche,
Greets!! I'm glad to see you're still at it! I've just DL'd and would strongly suggest that you update the Arena as well as the other mod to reflect the latest patch. 1.53 CEP is outdated (as per CEP notifications) for patch 1.68 of NWN1.
I've lost yer email if you've still got mine pop me a note!! _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.

OK, there's no problem with using CEP 1.53 and 1.68 patch with AoC. I managed to play to the end with a new character without the crashes I feared. Of course the CEP cloaks look ugly with 1.68 but that's no problem: pick an armour without a cloak.

Alternatively, you can skip star lake. Its not required to finish the game. All you need to do now is defeat Mephistopholese in hardcore mode and then talk to him. You will then enter the final cutscene. (hopefully without crashing).
Make sure you get damage res+20 and elemental resistances for the battle. He is pretty tough!

Hmm, I'm a tad stumped by this crashing prob. I have all of the latest patches both CEP and HOTU and it didn't crash for me.
I wonder if its related to the custom music in that area. Try going into the toolset and turning the background music off.
Let me know the result. Sorry about these issues. I'll do what I can, but it's kinda hard when I can't replicate the problem.
I'll try downloading the version here and see if it crashes. If that's the case, I'll just upload the version on my computer - the one that didn't crash - and we'll go from there.
Let me know how the music theory goes though. Cheers for your interest in AOC!

Hi Commche!
I really like Your mods and I hardly can wait for the Slayers of Darkmoon. However I also met with the bug Yasawyn already described:
SPOILER
I'm -good- and after defeating The AOC in GOD mode the portal opens up to Star Lake. It unloads the main area and the bar fills up for loading the Lake area then I CTD with a "nwn has encountered an error and needs to close". I have 1.68 and CEP 1.53 but also have this error with 1.67 and CEP 1.62
Posted by YorgosD at 2006-12-29 05:14:13 Voted 9.50
In CEP 1.53 download page it's noted it's not compatitable with the 1.68 patch. Does this means that AoC will crash if played with 1.68, and we should uninstall it in order to play? Can you try to fix it with a patch or ask the CEP team to do it?

OK! Played from start to finish in about 3.5 hours using the classic rapier wielding (12)fighter(25)weaponmaster(3)rogue dex build. I didn't encounter any problems with the cutscenes or anything else.
I played through using an evil character. I forgot how tough the good side is!
While I'm here I'd like to announce that my new hack'n'slash module "Slayers of Darkmoon" is progressing well. Here are some features to expect:
* Custom random loot generation system
- based on level of creature
- Its intuitive (i.e. only casters drop scrolls etc)
- Color coded 'Item Quality System'
- Bosses have more chance to drop loot
- Integrated Scarfaces Socketed item system: Gems randomly generated
- Small chance to recieve 'worn' or even 'broken' items
* Enhanced creature AI
- This is the real deal. You havent seen AI like this before!
- Combined 2 famous nwn AI systems that work together magically
- Critical damage system (quite funny at times - really adds a new element to gameplay)
- NPC parties that work together: healing, buffing, resurrecting, flanking, staying out of range...
- There really seems to be reason in the decisions of the creatures
- Enhanced ambience among NPCs: using voice, chatting, waving, bowing etc (this is much more random than creature teamwork though - so don't compare them)
- Random creature property enhancement system: this makes each and every creature a little different every time - including wielding different weapons. You never know what to expect
- Very carefully thought out boss fights: each boss fight requires more than just clicking and waiting. You'll have to move, drink the right pots, anticipate boss 'special moves' and prepare for surprises.
- Creature names are also color coded in terms of their level. You can recognise a creature's power without having to examine it
* Extensive henchman system
- focus on simplicity rather than complexity
- easy quick configuration
- supports up to 3 henchmen depending on chosen game difficulty level
- Unique henchman 'synergy system'. Based on a loyalty rating, special abilities will become availible. Different for each of the 6 different henchmen
- Play a support class and have your henchman tank. With your synergy abilities and under this henchman/creature AI system, you will have a blast!
- Henchmen are integrated into the plot
- Henchmen have their own gold and can buy their own potions
* Highly functional town
- Join one of the three guilds for a different experience each time
- Recharge rods at the magetower, replenish quivers at the bowyer or simply chill in (eventualy) your own quarters
- Custom tilesets very carefully populated with placeables and effects
* Player 'Rank' system
- Gain rank points from completing quests
- Recieve a daily salary in your quarters based on your rank
- Higher ranks can invoke temporary 'morale bonuses' on henchmen in combat
* Convenient recall system
- minimal running around: more playing
- Port back to town (or your guild house) from any of the conveniently placed port rooms throughout the realm
- Port back to a nearby port room after recovering from death
* Cool death system
- No popup screens
- Watch the action as your henchman cuts his way to your corpse to ressurect you
- player resurrection priority AI
- death penalties change depending on the selected difficulty level (of three chooseable levels)
* Take or leave RP story system
- varying conversation options for those who like RP
- Quick-play conversation options for those who just wanna hack'n'slash
- Extensive journal system that kinda unfolds like a novel. Lots of good reading for those who like a good story. Not important for those who don't!
- Main quest and side quests to complete
My last hack n slash mod was packed with systems, nice areas, interesting custom creatures and unique subraces - but unfortunately in the end, it was a little too unbalanced.
Slayers of Darkmoon is a concerted attempt to create the most balanced, playable and immersive HnS mod possible within the limitations of the NWN combat engine.
I was astounded by the co-operative AI in my recent playtesting sessions. It really forced my to carefully choose my strategies. You wont stand a chance if you just run in without a plan. I'm thrilled with the playability so far.
I'm sure I've missed something - oh yeah, special effects using the famous pentagrams and summoning circles system.
Anyway, my other mods have been largely cosmetic and pretty ambitious and through much feedback I have become focussed on gameplay as the primary goal of this mod. The AI, combat, Loot, Henchman abilitiy and creature properties systems were completed before more than one 4x4 map was made.

Ouch! Very frustrating indeed. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not sure what that could be. Can't say I've ever encountered that problem myself of via report such as yours.
Did you manage to see the final cutscene? You get it by talking to the game host(MC) after completing all of the arena challenges and beating the MC in a duel at hardcore level.
Its the best cutscene in the game and also where you get your final rating. I'd recommend trying for that and forgetting about star lake for now. Star lake is only really a bonus cutscene using that famous fireworks script on the vault (full credit is given in the documentation).
Maybe the issue with the crash is related to the new CEP. I haven't tried it since the update. Anyone else done so?

Most fun mod I've ever played, but have one issue listed below... SPOILER WARNING....
I'm evil and after defeating Mephisto I get the cool cutscene and the portal opens up to Star Lake. It unloads the main area and the bar almost fills up for loading the Lake area then I CTD with a "nwn has encountered an error and needs to close". Very very anti-climactic lol. :(
I have a problem and im not sure that this is where to post it but i dont have any idea, whenever i try to play this game after i click on create new character after selecting this in the "other modules" option the loading screen comes up and then it goes back to the main menu and it says "Missing required custom talk table." i have no idea what that means or how to fix it but this mod looks really good and id like to play it, so any help would be appreciated.

Just updated the mod. Couple of changes:
- Starfall is now defeatable. Don't know how many people didn't get to see the final cutscene because of this bug.
I have a problem, I cannot load the module it says it cannot load original custom conversations, anybody have a solution, i put all the files in the right place...
