In an exotic realm, you join the ranks of the Sultans Guard - charged with defending the palace, and all those sequestered behind its walls. Patrolling the courtyards provides ample opportunity to learn the palace goings-on, and it soon becomes clear that a deadly conspiracy lies beneath the placid surface. But not every rumor is to be believed, and you must be alert to tell fact from mere gossip. Continue your investigations in the bustling city beyond the palace walls...
i will give this one another go before voting because it seems to hold some promises.
Yet, my fighter lvl 1 died twice in a row when I tried to play it even when using range weapons. The only viable strategy seems to run to get help and never try to fight the legion of bandits coming out of nowhere over and over. So we need to play a coward sultan guard or a very lucky one?

Certainly an interesting module, Arabic settings are not seen much. I played a bard/ranger, using the double scimitars, and found the combat challenging enough. Negative points were there, sadly..
For one, conversations and their options are not flawless. Masud, for example, i could only ask about the poison while i had retrieved the crystal ball from the halflings. I could also ask him over and over, paying 250 gold everytime (good thing i saved)
I assume my 16 CHA served me well in the convos.. But it still feels like the plot revealment is a bit forced. I'm the one doing everything, and there's papers everywhere explaining everyone's involvement >.< All in all decent for a couple hours of fun, but it certainly could be smoothened.
Harud sent me to Mas'ud, who told me to bring back that halfling's hand. Was there supposed to be a conversation with the halfling? Because he ran out and attacked me, I killed him, and collected the hand. But when I try to give it to Mas'ud he acts like I haven't done any of that yet. The other two brothers were not hostile to me, so I didn't know to kill them to get their keys, so I just broke into the Darkhorse house. Did that possibly break the quest or did I miss a dialogue somewhere? Anyway, I can't continue because Harud won't talk to me until I get more info from Mas'ud, who won't talk to me because he won't take the hand. Disappointing, because I was really enjoying the mod. Is there any way to get past this?

The module has a strong Arabic feel and the story is engaging. The tileset have been put to good use and the design of the weapon is wonderful!
However, there are several areas that do required improvement:
1. The chamber of healer is locked and I could not get into her.
2. The nursemaid does not give out the quest to search for the prince.
3. There are a lot of areas which are large but almost useless. This force the player have to run a lot.
4. It does not only lacking map-pin for sub-quest building, but also the building required for main plot. e.g. Tarven where the spy located. The building of the noble, etc.
5. My PC has received the quest to enter the sewer. He has entered and return to the serpent before he has finished the quest. However, the serpent regard the PC as finish the quest and upgrade his ring. _________________________ Overlooked Module Report February 2009 | Master List | Forum Thread Academy of Modding Excellence Romance Module List Horror Module Collection Starlight's favorite module list
I started as Rogue 3 using NWN 1.68/CEP 1.53 on Mac. In the sewers and the crypt I ran into poisoning, desease, ability drain caused by poison and desease and in the entre temple is no healer, no remove poison or desease potions or scrolls to come to aid. Also there seem to be issues with some of the scripts since conversations start with we meet again but I never talked to the NPC before that. I've given up very frustrated. Pitty because it was an unusual module to that point.

I saw this module on the overlooked list. DL'd it and started playing. I love the atmosphere and music. It really adds to the experience. The only problem I have run into (and it's my fault) is that the conversation with the sergeant was interrupted when I accidently rested during it. Now I don't have the crypt quest or key to get in and the sergeant won't start it back up. I hate to think I have to start the game back over but that's the only thing I can think of...Rats!
Anyway, good job and I hope you do a sequel.

I really wish I could rate this higher, because this mod is full of atmosphere and flavor, and it's got an interesting story too. However, because of a bug(?) I couldn't speak to a key character, so I had to use the walkthrough to continue. Later, I couldn't even find a key character where he was supposed to be, and so as a result, I couldn't proceed to part 3 of the mod. Other than that, there's too much running around the same areas early on, and since progression in the story is keyed to your level, twice I had to waste time desperately searching for anything to kill, just so I could go up in level and continue.

Can the game be completed without speaking to Harun? I never got the instructions to talk to him, so when I talk to him, I don't get any further info. I killed Pexin and tried to give Harun his hand, but that didn't work. I looked at the walkthrough, which says the next thing to do is go to the Inn of Abu Masrur. I just started hacking my way through there, and then got to the door where you have to spell the word, which I haven't done yet. Will I be able to see this through to the end, or will I eventually reach a point where I can't continue b/c of this glitch?
Either way, the fact that I pretty much have to cheat my way through has made the mod less fun, which is a shame because it looks great and has a lot of flavor.
Oh, also, even though the fights are tough enough now (my 1st lvl fighter kept getting killed by bandits), the exp and gold rewards are really generous for a low level mod. It's not that I hate that, but I'm not used to it.
Elrond,
The sewer entrance is behind the burned-out building in the Eastern Courtyard (Court of Dawn) - down the grate in the far southeast corner.
Thanks for playing.

Hello, first of all I love the setting and atmosphere of the module, Original and intriguing. Now question: I have been given the sewer quest but can't find the sewer. Where is the entrance?
Mervian, I had to laugh a bit at your rogue's complaint. Level 10 is way over the intended character level... so you were getting spanked by the toughest beast in the scaleable encounter, but only had armor & weaponry for characters with half your levels. I doubt there's much I can help you with there...
I know the little kid doesn't follow too well - it's in the player's guide, and I don't know how to fix it. Anyone?
Thanks for the vote!

At last, finished the module - with some cheating, because I never succeeded in delivering the hand - I was given the quest all over again though I had it in my pack!
-- As far as the crypt: I only ran through to the end and back - barely staying alive - and probaby missed any clues there, this time with a fighter(7)-rogue(7)-druid(7)!!!
--A random tavern in the market place, lacks an exit - I got trapped inside twice, before I realised the doors might be random...
--I was true neutral when I started -did a bit of house-breaking in the town (leavning me Neutral(52)-Neutral(47) - and managed not to be accepted by any Temple!!!
This module has great story, brilliant details, great graphics, great plot - but the execution is left far behind.
It is sometimes frustrating or maybe impossible to clear those dungeons with the stuff that is available.

Now me [not the lady :)]
1) It appears a diary was given away well before it was found - and later seemed reduntant!!!
2) What about the altar in the crypt - also what about those remains in the canopies?
3) The kid never got out of the Tower, but the nurse got him!

My lady rogue's (10L) complain:
"Seems I'm not destined to have those two days off after all... I can't get past those undead - the lich scared me s***less - I could only run around witless till I were dead :( - I'm sick of respawning..."
Any advice - any way around?

whoo - where to begin. Thanks again to QSW for the review - it's probably single-handedly responsible for the last few votes the mod has gotten (come on people, just a couple more...)
Muneer bin Alan, thanks for the kind words (and for pointing out that xp bug).
Big_Shoe, I didn't make any of the placeables for the mod. The snake charmer, awnings, etc. were all part of gnomad's "fun in the sun" hakpak. Admittedly there were problems with compatibility (at one point I lost them all). I had worked a few of the placeables into a sub-plot, but they were too messed up and unstable to deal with, so I had to make plot changes. The plc_x0rg4 is supposed to be a moon texture that overrides the round rug - it was going to glow and everything, but it never worked (even in the override directory). Any help would be appreciated, and if you've got a corrected .2da you can email to [email protected]. Thanks in advance!
Citillara, Sultan's Guard in French?! Fantastic. And if you get serious about it, we'll work out how to get the movie voice-overs into french as well. Now that would be one sultry elf...
webpiro, didn't know that about the scale mail, but makes sense. I just eliminated the heavy armor across the board to change the class balance a bit - hoping to dissuade the fighter and paladin types.

Hi (and assalemu alaikum if you are also my brother in Islam... or if you're not) :). Very entertaining mod, not too easy or difficult, and I especially enjoy the use of some arabic terms. There is one bug I found. In the gladiator crypts, when you decipher the slab about the jinn and the sultan, you can continue to decipher it over and over again and receive 150 XP. Just thought i'd let you know.

Hello there, Grey Harrower! I was picking apart your outstanding module in the toolset, hoping to extract some of the placeables and doors to fix an error I have had using the Desert City tileset. The Palace group displays a missing model any time a door is hung on it. I know this is a HotU incompatibility in the tileset itself, but I was hoping you might have found a fixed door that I could use. While looking around, I noticed a few problems with the placeables, as follows:
The placeables all have Bad Strrefs when viewed in a CEP mod and do not display at all in a non CEP mod.
The following placeables call up missing models and do not work:
Awning_3
basket_onion
basket_low2
shark
The plc_basket_low2 model call is spelled differently in the 2da than the model name itself, and plc_basklow2 has a mdl but is missing its pwk file.
The model deaddear.mdl, and the placeable and texture plc_x0_rg4, seem to have no use.
I have made a fixed Placeables.2da file that removes the Strrefs and allows the models to display properly, and can email to you if you'd like. However, I could not fix the broken palace door or the four broken placeables listed above. I love the Desert City and want to use the Palace especially, but the inability to hang even a default door on it takes away from the experience. I don't mean to nit pick, and I'm not sure if you even made the placeables used here, but I just wanted to point out these minor issues in case you were not aware of them. In any case, congrats on a great module and a favorable review! _________________________ Realms Of Destiny PW

Are you interested to translate your module into french ?
If so you may leave me a message and I would be pleased to do it. _________________________ Dreams are only useful if there is reality behind. If you don't give a try in love, so you didn't live.

I enjoyed this module a lot. Thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into it. See the Review for further comments. _________________________ QSW -NWVault Reviewers Forum
Heh, I noticed something I wanted to remark on. It's amusing, really, 'cause a lot of other modules contain the same fault as well. ^-^ When leaving the first area and going onto patrol, you come across this harp and harpenist in the hall. The harp, it's the wrong way around. The wooden body goes against the shoulder. It's a bizarre sight over and over again, really, seeing it being "played" that way. ::Giggles.::
I would just like to say that I believe there was scale mail in the middle-east. it was light enough and it breathed much better that other heavy armors of the time. but hey your the mod designer so its your call I just thought that I would bring that to your attention. _________________________ Eagles may soar but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Well, I wish i could give this a rating but try as i might i cannot play this module. I have tried several times. but everytime i am out in the courtyard patroling, the game crashes. It is so frustrating that i have finally given up trying to play it. I thought that it had to do with the MGskaggs tileset which LOOKS great. So i used the low res textures instead. But my game is still crashing everytime i'm in the courtyard.

QSW - sorry for omitting the Player's Guide from the last update. If you downloaded r1.02, you can use that guide. If not, I've updated the 1.02b module zip file to include the guide.
hannya - thanks for the vote, and I'm glad you enjoyed the atmosphere in the mod.

Grey Harrower, there is no players guide in the sg1.02bmod.zip as stated, nor in any of the other required files. Could you update this ommision please? _________________________ QSW -NWVault Reviewers Forum
