You find yourself emprisoned in a Planar Pocket by your arch-nemesis Avitar, after having defeated the Nya'tar Tyman Uvudry and his army of undead. Avitar now has control of the Soul-link that Uvudry had originally used to link your soul to his own.
Your first priority is to find a way to escape this place; afterwards, you must find a way to remove the soul-link. Luckily, Askyba Moriano, your close friend and mentor back on Ciarria so long ago, is trapped here as well, and is ready and willing to help you...
What to Expect:
'Tale of a Mage, Chapter 2 - The Ceremony of Souls' is a module designed exclusively for high-level arcane spellcasters that have finished Chapter One of the series. While there are many opportunities for roleplaying and there is lots of detailed and involved dialogue, this module is also very combat-intensive. If you don't relish the idea of getting your hands dirty and becoming a battle-mage, this module is probably not for you.
On the other hand, if you're looking for epic spellduels, intelligent enemies that will dispel, buff, and trade spell for spell in combat, exhilarating boss fights that will require strategy and skill to emerge victorious from, and a strong central story/plot, then look no further!
Prepare for the ultimate NWN spell-slinging experience; welcome to 'Tale of a Mage, Chapter 2 - The Ceremony of Souls'!
FEATURES Custom Music as well as many High-Level Custom Spells such as Teleport, Volcanic Eruption, Tidal Wave, Chaos Blast, Lightning Storm, Chain Negativity, and more!
NOTE: This module uses the same 3 NanoSky Hi-Res Haks that were used in Chapter 1. If you still have them, there's no need to download them again (duh).
NEW as of 3/12/06 :: Thanks to community member Taellosse, the 11 Custom spells now have non-color icons (which look like BioWare ones, with dark purple and white) ! Huge thank-you to Taellosse! :)
Cheers,
Hugie
Though it's not a sequel per-se, you may want to check out The Island, a twisted/dark exploration adventure for PC's of level 26-28, after completing the 'Tale of a Mage' series--after all, the level range makes sense. ;)
This contains the required hakpaks and the most up-to-date custom TLK file for 'Tale of a Mage, Chapter 2 - The Ceremony of Souls.' (1.3a) (Last Updated 3/12/06 at 8:35am with Taellosse's new Custom Spell Icons!)
Help - spoilers needed!
I'm stuck. What do I do after I get the strange mask and the Queen's journal in the halls of the under-water city???
Thanks,
Spuriad
Also I am on the 2nd level of the Labyrinth of souls and when I click on the door to go to level 3 it only loads up to 3/4 finished and then just stays there, the game doesn't freeze or give an error sign..it just stays like that? Any ideas on the problem?
How do I use the new custom spells? I leveled up and didn't see them, do you get them automatically as a part of the storyline or what?

A very worthy conclusion to Tale of a Mage 1. I loved the ending! Thanks to the author for sharing this wonderful mod with the community, kudos! _________________________ Regards,

This was as good if not better than the first chapter!! [see chapter one comments]
The only problem I saw was with a few of the lower level custom spells. They were not showing up properly at spell selection or in spellbooks and would do nothing if used. They were 'blank' no names, descriptions or anything like that?
I truly loved this a lot. It really showed me that spellcasters aren't just dead weight. _________________________ Stupidity kills people.

I normally don't play magic users, but this one was worth it.
Thanks corey and kaiser! Nope, no chance for a chapter 3, unfortunately--I've moved to NWN2, and am also working for Ossian Studios as a writer, so that's where my free time is going these days. If you have NWN2, try out Moonshadows, my SP campaign...otherwise, you may want to try out Perchance to Dream or The Island, my other high-level NWN1 adventures. :)

Just beat the module! And heres my vote!
This is a great module for a mage fan like me. One of those rare modules where mages do not simply walk over everything else. The spell battles were epic, and fights actually involve lots of changing and tweaking of my spell book, rather than a typical 'one size fits all' spellbook. I felt my enemies were actually 'on par' with me rather than just pieces of meat. It was very enjoyable.
Loved the visuals of the module, it was great eye candy, and translates the whole ambience really well. Favorite was the underwater city. Music was great too, loved rockin' and slinging spells at the same time, and those tunes from FF7 brings back much childhood nostalgia... ah.
Custom spells were nice, Molecular Vibration being my favorite(mwahahaha Margs). But having more schools of custom spells will be better, as majority was Evocation and damage dealing spells. Perhaps more buffing or disabling spells will be great.
I found the final boss fights too easy. Flame arrows, mords and maximised IGMS finshed the job rather quickly. I had a henchman on top of that. The final boss in chapter 1 was so much harder IMO. Ending was also too abrupt IMO.
MAJOR SPOILERS!!!
I know this is a combat oriented module, but it will be nice to see more intense and emotional responses from the PC when the truth is finally out about your mentor whom you slept lived and ate with for 8 years. Well maybe it just me.
END SPOILERS
Thanks for the great experience Hugie! Any chance for a Chapter 3??

10. Part 2 isn't the sequel of Part 1. If you wanna play only the best, play that one right here. ToM2 is one of these few amazingly creative modules where you see how far NWN could take you with the right author. If you like magic, crazyness, imagination, beauty, this is for you. NWN how it could or should be. That part has been written. You'll see the difference. I suppose you could even start with that one.
Now I'm going for " Perchance to Dream " and " The Island - Re-Vamped! "
Bravo Alex, wonderful piece of fun, which means a lot of work.
And thanks for being around still. :-) _________________________ @ + jml, level 52

Much, much, much better than Part 1 so far. Amazing maps and mods. Truly.
But I'm stuck. Queen's appartements. I've got her journal. And...? I even tried the whole way back. Nop. Closed. _________________________ @ + jml, level 52

Thanks Raziel! I'm really glad you enjoyed playing this as much as I enjoyed making it. :) If you liked this, you'll LOVE Perchance to Dream, another spellcaster mod I made! _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon

OMG, this has been one of the most entertaining mods ive played. A truly epic story, loved the custom spells and creatures and all, quite challenging as well, those by the CoS mod, you should be a veteran magic tactician =p and honestly, for me, the final 3 battles were rather easy. Run up to Xi'Shai, molecular vibration, bye-bye xishai hello 2 full levels. lol. Lezzekar was pretty easy too. We traded Mord. disjuctions for awhile, tossing up and breaking down spell mantles with my wand of spell breaching, but eventually Lez tripped up, and got a bigby's deadly grasp for tha insta-kill. Same thing for siarbak, though he was slightly tougher. same exchange of disjuctions and spell mantles, tho i got an unpleasant surprise when his saves were too high for the deadly grasp, unfortunatly it didnt go so well with the grasping hand and he stood there helpless while I nailed him with an empowered IGMS. End of story. Yay! Still a pretty entertaining boss battle though. The mage-killer was a nice add too, but i just cast tensers then went to town on it while my panther was sneak attacking for 70+ damage... he didnt last long either. lol. But yes. A very well done and engrossing story. Mission accomplished =) _________________________ So what if I tied Billy's legs to the flag pole and handed him a hacksaw and told him he had 5 minutes to find a cure for the anthrax I put in his milk.
Just killed the mage-killer. How do I get the fire rune? what do i do, there's nothing beyond it... tried to deposit the beast's head on the floor (always a good idea..) Don't know what to do now

Great little tale indicating that there is no place like home! Not a bad place to start any FRPG story.
This Grand Escape from a planar prison is quite a gem. Only flaw that mars the complete storyline for me is having to break out of character and murder one of my prison guards. If another good and/or moral option becomes available, I will upgrade my vote on this Epic Mage tester accordingly.
Well done!

Clarification - I realize that Slow spells could have been learned by anyone over the past 20+ lvls. I simply noticed that this was the only 3rd lvl spell or less not available in scroll form in either mod. This tweaks my O/C nature a little....

I do see many improvements in this mod over the Prequel. The storyline is kept taught, the opponents are challenging, and the feel of the game is less linear but still has direction and purpose.
*SPOILERS*
Some notes thus far:
* Major flaw for myself is the not so clear way to gain entrance into the Time quest. I could not discover a way past the door, so I had to read spoilers here. Sorry, but intimidation leading to murder should not be the main or only option to gain the key needed. This is when the story ceases to be about the Player's character and choices, and becomes another NPC to finish the tale.
* XP awards very greatly; Only gaining 20 XP for foes frequently tossing 9th lvl spells, but get 1000 XP for speaking to a Very Large Squirrel, etc. This pacing gets confusing, as it took nearly 3 key quests to gain a single Lvl Up, but got another with just the remaining one. Personally, I do not mind lesser awards for kills and major awards for Quests, but it should remain consistant.
* Excellent cutscene in the death of the Lord of Souls is somewhat spoiled by our inability to do anything but watch. Pls Petrify us first or something, as I wanted to kill the attackers or offer help to the victim.
* Slow spell scrolls are missing; my only unlearned 3rd lvl spell. And you may wish to add some scrolls of your own spells in order to learn those, too. Lvl Up additions are not nearly as frequent in this sequel.
* Dwarven mage inventory still cannot be accessed, which only really becomes an issue if he needs healing. Pls add some Greater Restoration or Heal potions to his battle kit, and/or Regeneration.
* I am using a +5 heavy mace purchased in the first mod. It seems a bit strange that I have failed to discover such enhancement upon the weapons of my foes. And Epic treasure drops may wish to delete FR based literature, alcohol, mundane sling bullets a.k.a. rocks, etc. from the menu.
* Is resting always such an issue for Arcanists? It makes me appreciate my other classes a little more, though I do enjoy tossing such powerful spells for a change.

Awesome!
Just finished Tale of a Mage 2 in one sitting and, man, I'm exhausted! Heh! What an awesome ride! My hat is off to you for balancing this thing as well as you did. (combat, items, etc...) What an absolute blast (pardon the pun) being a fully locked and loaded mage that can just kick most things butts! I learned alot about what I'm afraid to say is my new favorite calss from your 'Mage' series. It certainly wasn't easy. Can't count how many times I reloaded, heh. But once you figure out the enemy's weakness man, just hit the gas and fry 'em, heh! I love it!
***Spoilers Follow***
-The maps were superb! I think the underwater part was my fav as far as eye candy/coolness etc...
-The music was perfect! Oh man, nothin like rockin out while your smokin the badguys! lol
-I agree that the ending was abrupt, but hey, the conclusion was in there...Perhaps you are leaving room for a Chapter 3?? *please*
-I read a few posts up where someone was whining about the large battle near the end and am now kicking myself for not using the cool draggy summon tool I'd found. I played with all three of those items but somehow forgot to use them in combat. I fought all those dudes near the end with just my buffs (including extended-haste I cast on myself right before I shifted into a dragon). Once they all started drinking potions, I did slide the difficulty down to easy, I'll admit it :+) but other than that, the fight was deffinitely do-able. If there was one thing I'd gripe about it would be that they had like three pots a piece. Just made it rather frustrating and prolonged the inevitable. I think I used 3-5 heal potions as well as 2-3 greater stoneskins and haste pots and never had to unshift. My character ended just a hair over level 28 pure wizard from playing both modules and prelude.
***End Spoilers***
Anyway, thanks a ton for making this great series! !
I think now my mage needs a nice long rest. Perhaps she will go relax on that lovely island I keep hearing about?
:+)
Thanks--glad you figured it out. :) In general, *never* attack anything that isn't hostile to you; in all mods, not just my own, doing that is just asking for faction issues. :) _________________________ Alex "Hugie" Hugon

Very Good module, like the custom spells and the custom music. The guitar riff was excellent for boss battles. My only complain are a few bugs that make finishing the game completely impossible (like being able to kill the priest outside of conversation, changing the faction scripts to make all neutral turn hostile instead of just priests). All in All, a good mod with a great story and excellent concept.
