Surrounded on top of a hill, you command the soldiers of Ardorin against the invading Orcs of Grumbar. The King himself lies trapped with the troops, waiting for your plan to break the siege.
Time is running out and it seems the Orcs are on the move...
I thought this was an excellent example of what could be done in a small area with some creative thinking and dedication. Despite the size, there was exploration. There is a massive battle that you directed through engaging decisions with good descriptions. Not a single creature was harmed in its making, not one orc seen, yet it was a memorable battle through the script. I haven't seen it done before, and it allowed you to imagine the scene the way the writer intended. The dialogue was well written and creative, and NPCs had their own personalities. With all the speech options, there must have been a ton of effort involved. There are moral decisions to be made, quests to be completed, and a general feel that made me hope that this would be continued. Most of all, its an inspiration for people to get out and make their own modules. The dialogue tree tool was used to maximum effect and it doesn't take much to learn it. Also, the other parts could be done through the wizards available. Sure we have seen some amazing things done that pushed the software to it's limits, but people who don't know how to do all the complicated scripts and custom content could whip something like this up. Oh, and one more thing that I liked. The name of the module was attractive and it really tied into what the story was about from begining to end. The writing was consistently themed.

Hi there, I've updated the module description, and I also wanted to clear out that there are 3 NPCs that you talk to in the game, as per the guidelines for this contest, but I have more NPCs in the story that are mentioned in the dialogues. There were no restrictions as far as I know of using more than 3 named characters in the submission, as long as you limit the number of "talking NPCs" to 3. There are two quests in the module, each one has 2 possible endings, I wanted to make sure you all caught that. Have fun and if you have any other comments or regards, feel free to post here. F1

Immediately engaging storyline that wastes little time spelling out the "meat" of the situation. Strong design. However, the player dialogue could be more interesting at times. Also, the author seems to have taken some liberties with the module guidelines.

I liked it. Kind of like an old JTS. . .

When I submitted I had no idea the description was of the module. I'll look into editing that entry with more details soon. Thanks for playing and voting. F1

Worth the download and I enjoyed the setting it was placed in.

Er - I liked this, but it had WAY more than 3 NPCs (at least it SEEMS that way, even discounting the soldiers etc). A bug meant I got trapped in some barrels, so I didn't see the end. The writing was skilled, but not engrossing.

MY LAST SUNRISE: (6TH TESTED MODULE) My intention is to give feedback on both the writing (competition) and design (not necessarily competition) for every module I have the chance to play. WRITING: I enjoyed the ease of reading and decision-making. The plot was reasonably straight forward, but the writing did bring out the difficulty someone might have in making a decision in the position the PC was in, which I thought was good. DESIGN: I was a little put off by the way past links remained active, but I can understand why, as it is easier to review the conversation lines again. The design was otherwise clean and uncluttered, but with enough around to make it interesting. FINAL: I enjoyed this module, but had hoped for one other possible ending. If there was one, I did not find it. If there is one, then I would give the score an additional 0.5 to the score. _________________________ World of Althéa Blog: Link
