After escaping from a group of slavers, the player finds themself in the middle of a desert they are unfamiliar with. Desperately needing water, a pond suddenly becomes visible in the distance, as well as the small figure of a person. Hopefully the mystery person is willing to share...
**contains spoilers** I liked it. You had some interesting characters, well-written dialogue, and some good options for solving the little delima. Only problem was that some of your conversations seemed to loop on and on without any way to quit, even after asking all questions. I also found that it was curious that the halfling at first didn't trust the wizard, but then gave him the teleportation stone. Maybe I missed something, but why hide it in the first place? Also why would the dwarf poison the water? The explanation you gave was not satisfying

The dialouge are interesting. Talking the each NPC will reveal some new dialouge options on the others as they are related. Also there are a lot of choices that could be chosen. This mod is very interesting. _________________________ Overlooked Module Report February 2009 | Master List | Forum Thread Academy of Modding Excellence Romance Module List Horror Module Collection Starlight's favorite module list

8.5 GRAINS OF TRUTH: (24TH TESTED MODULE) My intention is to give feedback on both the writing (competition) and design (not necessarily competition) for every module I have the chance to play. NB: Judging any material is always subject to personal taste. I have tried hard to be as objective as possible and apologise if I have appeared harsh in any of my scores. WRITING: I really enjoyed this module. The decisions and endings available were clear and well done. This is the best module I have played to date. Even though there was not much to do beyond the conversations, the characters and decisions to be made kept me involved and wanting to play. DESIGN: From the outset the module did not seem to offer much. However, due to the environment in which it is set, and the relationship between the NPC?s, this worked well. FINAL: This scenario made a refreshing change from most I have played to date because it involved all three NPC?s in a dynamic way. Interaction with any one had an impact on the rest. I think that is a sign of good writing and it was a pleasure to play this one. MY SCORE SYSTEM (IMHO): 5 Not up with the competition. 5 - 6 Average. 7 - 8 Above average. > 8 An exceptional piece. _________________________ World of Althéa Blog: Link

This was a really good module with an excellent premise. It also is really cool that you cannot trust the narratives of any of the NPCs and you can see how they reached their impasse. The dialog is very good with realistic characterizations and dialects.

I'm in agreement with the comments received so far, and I'd just like to mention that npcs interacting with each other was attempted, but I couldn't get the speakers to switch correctly, and decided to just cut that aspect out in favor of a module I could actually get to work. Thanks all!

(5 being average) Ditto what Sirrano said. The dialog carried the story and the characterization of each NPC was great. I really liked the way that the Dwarf is the initiator of the quest but is totally unreliable as a source of information. That is, if this had been a real mod with combat, following the Dwarf's advice would have been an option, but an unnecessary one. Very nice touch. I disagree with Sirrano on the illogical flow, only because having submitted a module myself, I know it's the only way to present all possible dialog threads for people to explore, without having them replay the game each time... :) I also agree about the NPC interaction. I would have liked to see some conflict between them--perhaps even at the opening to establish why they're pissed at each other. It would have alleviated some of the longer dialog with them individually later on... Regardless, great job. I really liked this one.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with mattd on this one. In my opinion the dialogue was the strongest aspect of the story. I felt it really carried the differing personas of the characters, each of who stood out in their own way. Granted - sometimes it did drag on a tiny bit with not as much of a chance to carry my own personality in to the conversation, but it was still the highlight of the module. There was some illogical flow in conversation, for example you can introduce yourself to a person after having chatted with them already, but that was not a big thing because I was always given another option to say something relevant. What I would have liked to see: More frequent dialogue choices where the PC can assert their own persona. Character interaction between NPCs. The characters were the strongest point, so it would have been great if you found a way for them to interact. More scope in to the past/future of the story. It would have been nice to know how I was caught by slavers etc and maybe some dialogue options allowing me to display some idea of where I was going. This would have added depth but then there is only so much you can do within the word count, not to mention the difficulty in doing this without overriding any role play elements the player wished to include. Well done though. A good module.

I actually really liked this one. It was well planned out, had good dialogue and entertained me.

The dialog in this module could have been better in my opinion. Conversations seemed to go on for a while without enough direction. I thought that the setup was interesting, but the module didn't let me follow the course of actions that I would have wanted me to take. Could have done with a more options to kill characters, persuade or cut short conversations.
