Medieval Europe (but with lots of fantasy inside) This is the XIIIth century, but a XIIIth century where you can still find old Elven cities in the depths of ancient forests, or Dwarven kingdoms hidden in the northeastern part of Germany... The Holy Inquisition of the Catholic Church is hunting down magic users and a New World is about to born... But the forces of the Old World, with its magic and its legendary creatures, are still there...trying to survive.

Description
FINAL RELEASE (2.05) of the 1st episode of the 'Bastard of Kosigan' series translated by GINNI SWANTON.
After the death of his father, Gregor of Kosigan, the Bastard of Kosigan (your character) has been exiled from his homeland by the Count of Kosigan, his uncle Borogar, who has always hated him. Hes become a mercenary adventurer, wandering from place to place. His travels eventually lead him to the principality of Germany and the city of Cologne, where he gets caught up in a web of intrigue and deceit involving the Holy Inquisition of the Catholic Church and a coven of local witches. He soon learns that the stakes are higher than he thought, that things arent always what they seem to be, and that choices arent necessarily black and white. The richness of the dialog provides for realistic role-playing for all alignments, and the choices your PC makes affect not only the outcome of this module, but also everything that happens throughout it.
Dont be afraidyoull enjoy it even if youre a fan of pure Dungeons & Dragons, or if you killed your History teacher out of hate when you were a child :)
This translation has taken a huge amount of work for Ginni (about 5 or 6 monthes, many hours a day)...
She and I ran into many bugs due to the inconsiderate actions of previous would-be-translators...
We hope you will understand the real difficulty of what has been done :)

Best 1st chapter module ever! Downscoring for adult sexual content. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
Thanks,

I would enjoy this more if it stopped crashing whenever I loaded a game. The manual mentions this issue but apparently the only solution is to keep restarting the game and hope it doesn't crash again. Would have given it a much higher rating if I had the ability to actually play it without getting frustrated from the crashes.
I have made a set of patch HAKs to allow the use of CEP (version 2.4) with this series of modules. I myself have a great attachment to a bunch of items that use models from CEP2, so I do this for every module I play.
Is this something other people would find useful?

Slightly confusing here & there, a few Journal entries never resolved, minor nit-picky stuff really...
Nevertheless, I enjoyed this mod and look forward to the sequel(s). Onwards to Episode 2! :)

Truly a wonderful job. I played it in 11 hours without making break! Congratulations to the creator and translators! _________________________ Everything you do has a meaning...

This module is perfect. I had a great time!

Just a follow on: The use of Plot tokens that carry over into the next module is a strong point of the module. However, I wish that a clean up routine would be run to remove the unnecessary plot items when the character is transported into the bar at the end of the module.

Very strong module. I played it twice in a row to examine all of the different options. There are a few dialogue bugs that need to be fixed regarding variables being set and the follow action for 'non-henchman' followers is kind of bugged as well. The main bug for me was using the custom classes. For some reason my saved games using those classes would no longer load.
Overall this module had good replayability.

Amazing series! I just finished it a 2nd time (as a Monk), and planning to play again (as a Rogue).
I LOVE the fact that there are so many choices on how to act and react on different situations!
Anyone knows when Episode 5 comes out in English? My French is really far from sufficient... ;-)

Great Mod! Couldn´t stop playing until I completed all the translated parts this weekend. The story was well writen and there were lot of Roleplaying choices and consequences.
Sadly, I still found a bunch of Bugs and had to reload/replay the Mod a few times to finish the game. But this is a free Mod so I won´t complain ;)
I don´t think the developer will fix any Bugs for this old Mod, so I won´t list them here. But you should still save a lot and use different saves in this final version.^^

Just great! Terrific dialogs around a great story and excellent pace. Has been quite a while that a mod doesn't get me enthralled like that.
Superb storyteller, thanks to Ginni we can enjoy that!
I can only wonder what would be possible if we had Fabien writing the story/dialogs, Ghool for the S/VFX and area/monster design and Savant to put it all together... or better not... it's dangerous for my health ;P

Totally Epic. What an absolutely incredible change from the usual storyline. I absolutely loved this module, and in fact, couldn't stop playing it until I was finished the first installment. The story is gripping, the plot has enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled in the story, and the historical content is simply wonderful. I really can't say enough about this piece of work. WELL DONE! Looking forward to the next one.

I'd like to once again thank this incredible chapter in this series for introducing me to the hauntingly beautiful music of Enya :D One thing I want to know though is what is the music at the end of this mod in the tavern?
I've tried to install this 4 different times and it always says that I'm "missing a hak file.
Could someone please tell me what I might have done wrong.
step by step install instructions would also be appreciated.

definitely not a masterpiece

Enjoyed it enough to want to play the second in the series! On and to play part1 again as a different alignment! I like the idea of having different sides to choose from to side with!
The Stannis bug is a pain though! The henchies could do with a bit more interactivity if Mod creators ever get around to doing an update as this Mod is actually worth it!
Sticking to my notion of never giving out any 10s

Definately the best of the Kosigan modules (the ones that have been translated to English anyways). The later modules are a little more lead them by the nose, but this one is perfect.

Oh, I had the issue with Stannis the Blacksmith as well.
New Players I suggest you buy anything you want from the first time you talk to him. I don't think you can later. Though for me he was stuck in the woods near where the Wagon you fixed was.

Bravo!
Bravo Author!
Bravo Translator!
This is an absolute MUST PLAY module. Church Scandals/Inquisition/Witches,
I had played an early version of Bastard years ago (when ep2 was the starting point) and I didn't feel blown away.
But this one did blow me away. It is Excellent. Easily in my top 5 and I have played a great many modules.
Anyone who dabbled with Bastard years ago when this first module didn't exist, simply MUST return for this new beginning.

Fabien, le module est fantastique, mais ne parle allemand, s´il te plait, parce que c´est terrible!

Sorry, I really like to play this module by now, but is this a comedy?
I really don´t understand the German dialogues and that is really funny, because I am German!
The German dialogues really make no sense!
Could you please explain why a merchant you have never met before "What happens?" asks? Or why everyone continously tells me "Ich bitte um unschuldigung!" - what translated in English - means: "I request for innocencing!"
WHY? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
I have found exactly one dialogue without any mistakes. The cause is that there were only three German words in this dialogue.
ferry inderestink tranzlazion! (German are not stupid! - No, they are not more stupid than all the others.)
I speak English and Frensh not very good, but I know how to explain what I mean. And I know how to speak in other languages! HEY STOOOPITTTT!!!

I really enjoyed playing this mod. Thanks for your work. Only small weak point is no quest for henchmen, but it dosnt matter because it have all other things (hero, story, interesting enemies, different looking locations...). Again thanks very much.

Loved the mod, very intriguing and it really gets you in character, but I just can`t give it a score higher than 8 because of the lack of documentation and the loose ends it just leaves. The henchmen having no conversation is also rather annoying (I`m not trying to judge here, but I would think that if the creator had time to write this HUGE story and dialogs, he would`ve had time to write a few more for the henchmen/companions too).
The mod was GREAT and the fact that I gave it an 8 does not mean "yea it`s cute maybe you should play it". I gave it an 8 because that`s the overall score it should get, but on a "Is it worth my time?" scale from 1 to 10 I would give it a 9.9. Bravo! _________________________ Needles in the eyes!

I, too, have the problem with the ritual. I just cannot find the witches. Why not just write a comment here and warn us that it's a spoiler? _________________________ Needles in the eyes!

Funny thing: one guy refers to someone as using machiavellian tactics, but the story happens in XIIIth century and Machiavelli was born in late XVth. :) Not really an issue, just thought I`d mention it. _________________________ Needles in the eyes!

This was quite a fun mod. Really enjoyed the political intrigue and occasions when I really wasn't sure what choices to make. Lovely shades of nail-biting grey! Also great to see a mod that is willing to tackle adult content. Unfortunately, I also encountered the bug with the blacksmith Stannis, where he ends up at the Inn and the shop window won't open.
