When you talk to Janus at the beginning of Chapter Five, there is only one conversation for Janus. In it he is supposed to explain why you were chosen, as well as where you need to go next, and when it finishes, you are supposed to be automaticly teleported. If this is not happening, I am not sure why. This was an issue that was fixed early on. Perhaps you need to redownload, just in case there was a minor glitch when you first downloaded.

tried replayig ch 4 to get the correct conversation from janus but it was a no go. he did not start anything after i got the sword or when we left the cave. i saved the character and started ch5 where i did get the conversation about traveling north but not the one telling why i was picked for this quest. i am still suck in the canyon not teleport happened. do you have any suggestions?
Somethin g must have happened during your conversation with Janus, because as soon as that conversation is over, you should be teleported back to the desert village. Try starting the chapter over, being careful not to interupt the conversation with Janus in any way.

good series with interesting story line.
i finished ch 4 got sword back, had conversation with janus about traveling north, started ch 5 but can't get out of the first area neither of the area transitions will let me out of the canyon to proceed with the quest. do you have any fix for this?
There should have been a swamp right before the map that had the tower with the book in it. The swamp was done using Tilemagic, and sewer water.

Well finished and enjoyed it immensely.
I know there was a lot of running around but at least it was realistic and it meant that if you needed to pick up a few xp for another level you could do it with constant respawns.
XP for kills was low methinks. Although I do generally play completely solo, no henchmen, maybe a summoned creature (unsummon before I kill NME). Started as a 1st lvl clr and finished on 7th lvl.
I play hardcore and I think that a clr is the best class. Not sure how I could have succeeded with a class without prot from evil and endure/resist elements.
Not to many problems with combat due to buffs.
Ending was a bit abrupt and didn't find any swamp?
Cheers

Grymmly
Thanks again for quick reply.
The problem has to have been the death of Janus when fighting evil spirit. Went back to a reload before death and OK. No trigger occurred after the death of Lord ? and taking the sword, until we exited area ie on top of stairs, then Janus spoke.
I had thought that the faction bug with the spy had been fixed. Apparently not.
I'm not sure what would be bugging the evil spirit quest, since the conversation is based on a localint. I'll make a note to check the conversation for it, and see what's up.
Janus has always had a problem with combat and being a bit laggy with his spellcasting. I've never been able to figure out how to fix it. I'll see what I can do about changing his spell selection, and hopefully things won't screw up too badly when he levels.

Upto part 3 and found crown/helm. However had two problems along the way.
1 Near to the end of part 2 and returning with glove. We encounter the black hunter and 2 henchmen. He is actually friendly even though he tries to attack me. Had to replay that again a few times (he was always friendly, so could not attack him in any way). Anyway turned all of us invisible and had Janus and Aragorn standing a fair distance off. Hit the trigger for black hunter etc and then ran away from him. He then attacks his henchmen and I bolster them by casting mage armour and bulls str until they kill him. However they were a lot tougher to kill. I was still invisible so would heal them but they would still attack me.
2 Part 3 Janus kets killed by evil spirit and I raise him. Howver even though Janus is still with me. There are 2 blips on screen of Janus. One does not show him the other is him. After returning to prince with amulet and receivinh helm. Janus does not recognise this he still says we are to destroy evil spirit. We killed evil spirit (begins with a K and he was very hard).
Am using a cleric with trickery and magic domain and have Aragorn and Janus with me. Wish Janus had some better spells when we are about to attack he'll cast mage armour then ghostly visage rush to combat cast burning hands (burn hands does no dmage on us) BUT we have already killed creatures.
Anyway as he also summons creature 1 and I can not kill it, we receive less xp as there are 4 of us now. What I had been doing is standing Janus as Aragorn and I take on the NME. When you are a fair distance from Janus you will receive XP based on 2 characters not the 3 or 4 if Janus and or summoned creature is with us. He has a very good staff but does not use it's abilities as well.
Just wondering if JAnus does not recognise the fact that we killed evil spirit because he was killed when we killed it and or because he hasn't really been involved in much fighting as well. VHave been very tempted to toggle spells and let him use a crossbow.
If you are having problems with the tlk file, run the CEP updater, and it should fix the problem. I'm not using any kind of special tlk, as I know nothing of creating them.
I had both henchmen with me all the time. It's certainly possible that it's something on my installation, but I have not had these types of issues with other mods. I will re-download at some point and try again.

@ shuurai: Odd. I have played many if not all of this series incarnations and don't have the issues you seem to have. Certainly in the beginning there were plenty of issues but none now. As for Grymmly's note about Henchmen. You DO need them, especially Janus, or yes you will have problems. But it seems, at least to me that you might (heavy on the "might") have issues with your install of NWN1, or at least this game. I would try to redownload the this game and erase the current files you have installed and then do a fresh install and restart the game. Good luck! _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.
shuurai, are you by any chance playing this as multiplayer?

@shuurai. Tinkering with an author's mod is in bad taste M8. What you are doing, or were, by posting comments and bug reports is the better way. _________________________ We are all born ignorant, but one must work to remain ignorant.
I see that you have the script start5 set to execute when the first area loads, but it does not fire even after restarting the mod several times. I tried placing a trigger in the area to call that script, but that didn't work either. Not really sure why, the syntax looks like it should work.
Anyway, I used the editor to place a girl in the starting area, and tagged the conversation to her; that got me to the desert village. Talked to the elf to go back; I see there is another script set on his village as well, it also failed to fire. Hmmm...
In any event, I worked my way up to the boss, killed him, and now it just seems to end. If I leave the tower, it goes into cut scene mode but does nothing - just sits there.
The modules were tested quite a bit, and when problems were found they were fixed, and it was playtested again. If the module is giving you that many problems, I have no idea why. Every end script has always worked before, and there has never been a problem leaving the first area in chapter five, since it is tied in with Janus' conversation.
Just started chapter five, and it seems I am completely stuck. I am in the first area - the canyons - and when I try to leave the area at the exit at the far north, nothing happens. I tried the other exit (jumped there via the chooser) and it doesn't work either. Opened the mod in the editor, and as near as I can tell both of those exits map to themselves (??)
In all seriousness, while I appreciate the effort that goes into making a mod, this thing just could not have been tested much at all. Every single chapter had scripts that would either never fire (many of them show-stoppers) or in some cases would fire too many times. Some examples:
Chapter one - the first time I started, Janus never appeared in the lodge after I killed the boar. After my restart, he would appear over and over when I loaded in the lodge.
Chapter two - the ending trigger never fired.
Chapter four - I found Arridok before going into the tomb where the ghost tells me to find Arridok... I saw the footprints in the sand and decided to follow them. Apparently this broke the game, because after that point Janus would just keep saying we need to go south to the oasis and even after I had the sword he kept saying that. Then after I spoke to the ghost, Janus would keep telling me we need to go get the sword even though I already had it. The ending script for this one failed to fire as well, possibly because I went out of order.
Chapter five - as mentioned above, I can't even leave the first area - it appears the area transition either points to nothing or to itself.
This mod had potential... the story is somewhat interesting. But overall it just seems unfinished, and definitely untested. Most of the areas are HUGE and mostly empty squares, where the player simply walks from one side in a straight line to the other side. There are a few maze-like areas, but even those seem way too empty. Killing the same creatures over and over again becomes very boring after a while, especially since it's usually one at a time. None of the NPC's have any personality whatsoever - most of them don't even have conversations or voice.
The boss at the end of chapter four was utterly ridiculous, especially in light of how easy the rest of the enemies are. A giant with damage reduction doing 20+ damage per hit against a party of three level four characters? Really??
At the end of every module, when you go where Janus tells you, the module is supposed to automaticly take you to the next chapter. If it didn't work for you, I have no idea why, as this hasn't been a problem in a long time.
I just finished (I think) part two... I got the gloves, and when I ask Janus where to go next he just says we go back to the village, re-supply, and rest in the inn. we met the ambush at the entrance to the village and killed them... is something supposed to trigger at this point? I've entered the inn and nothing; tried resting, nothing.
No, and it shouldn't happen, since the script is supposed to fire based on how many times you've entered the lodge. I'll have to double check, and see what fixes I can make.
If you save in the lodge and then load again after Janus appears, a new Janus appears and also joins your party if you agree to help. If you save and load again, yet another Janus appears and joins... I didn't try any more after three. While it is tempting to go forth with an army of Janus in tow, I suspect this was not what you intended ;)
