Welcome again, hardcore CRPG fans!
Yet another two years of development, yet another epic game from me, to you: Tortured Hearts 2.
I hope you'll enjoy this creation of mine as much as I enjoyed making it.

Some important facts you should know before playing:
-Although this is a release version, you may still find some glitches. I hope you won't: if you do find anything to be fixed, please feel free to contact me.
-4000+ hours invested again (not to mention my co-authors who worked hundreds of hours, too)
-No multiplayer, sorry...
-Heavily open-ended gameplay (fundamental in my book)
-No massive hardcore ruleset this time (only HCR XP system: the higher your level, the less XP you get)
-NPCs will talk to you any time (they don't sleep at night)
-No gold encumbrance, food required, or time restrictions on rest, some areas must use inns,
-CEP 1.52 & a few custom tilesets
-You play the descendant of the TH1 hero. Starting as a humble craftsman, your first task is to become an adventurer.
-Very huge world (270+ areas) with one big city/sewers system, 5 other inland settlements, some islands, and the usual dungeons, forests etc.
-About 270 NPCs, all of them with individual portraits, most of them custom-made.
-207 plot items + plenty of custom weapons and armor
-Self-made custom loadscreens
-98 custom music files
-60+ self-made item graphics
-30+ shopping places
-Wandering monsters
-96 smaller or bigger quests
-Tradeskill system: Gold Panning, Mining, Alchemy, Herbalist, Blacksmith, Fletcher, Woodworker, Skinning
-11+1 henchmen with plenty of interactivity & background.
-Henchman command tokens for better handling
-Henchman/Protagonist relation system + One of them may fall in love with you
-You can have a house, a ship, and your own upgradeable inn
-Any alignment, race and class can play the game (naturally)
-100-150+ hours estimated playing time (if you tend to read and solve everything)
-Cinematic intro and good/evil outcomes
-Conversation word count: 415,000 versus 177,000 for TH1
-Many conversations were written by my American co-author, Jim Grimsley, who is a novelist with several published books to his credit.
-Some of the weird characters' convo was written by my Hungarian co-author, András Gáspár, another novelist friend and colleague of mine. (He has had many scifi and fantasy books published here in Hungary)
-Text was proofread by a kind and helpful American player of mine, DrHoo. (Thanks for plenty of items and excellent testing aid, too.)

How are you doing with the rogue?

Posted by Deris at 2013-03-24 23:26:43
Nevermind. Backtracked to the traveling merchant and bought a dispel scroll.

Posted by Deris at 2013-03-24 22:48:07
Is there any other way to get the golden scales unstuck besides casting dispel? I'm trying to solo as a rogue.

Since I don't know how long ago you played, I can't really answer that. There is a new area, there were some annoying bugs that were fixed. The Readme should have a list of version changes. If you want to go again, the hak and tlk files will need to be updated too.

Posted by gumbee42 at 2013-02-17 18:35:14    Voted 9.50
I see you updated it. I played a few years ago and loved it. What changed? Minor tweaks, major changes?

If you mean you couldn't figure out how to send a save game:
1. Send to Subbassman. His email is in the readme. We don't post it because bots pick up email addresses.
2. The save games are in the NWN directory under saves, you can see they are very large. Have to compress them to email them. We use WinRar to make a .rar file.

Thanks for the vote! My goodness, you have really taken a path less trod, it seems. Sorry you have gotten in such a bind.

SPOILERS

I'm not sure why Wuldan won't speak to you since I don't know where you are in that story. Basically Wuldan's progression is: save the guy in the cave of trials, find Wuldan's wife in the slums and get them talking again, destroy the obelisk which keeps women out.
In the Monastery, the Flying Carpet is in a side underground cavern with a dead Drow.
To cure Beetle, you need the Celestial Elixir from a cabinet in Toman's tower, the Dryad root which is in two places, one of them the Pirate dungeon, the special holy water, the recipe which is in the Old Dungeon behind a statue, and the Priest of Mystra in RF to mix it all up. Then you put it in the corrupted pool and get Beetle to go in.

I can't send you my save game. I just can't figure it out. Is there any other way to force Wuldan to speak to me? What components do I need to purify beetle's pool? And I never could get the Abbott Monk to give me the archives quest, no matter what I said. So, after about two hours of combing the monastery, I killed the mean monk in one of the side rooms and took his key. I cleared the archives and various dungeons and crypts below it. I restored all of the pegs. I thought this would trigger the Abbott to speak to me and complete the quest, but it didn't. He still just gave me the standard greeting. I went around the whole monastery again, trying to trigger the Abbott to speak to me. I finally let my irritation get the better of me, and I killed everyone in the monastery and stole their stuff. I know all I need is the flying carpet, but it's bugging me that I can't finish quests, no matter how nice I am to quest givers. It's still my favorite game, though. I'm having a blast playing it. I just know that I'm nearing the end of the game, and I want to restore Beetle before I finish.

PS
The map is only good for areas of the Shire! There are other shortcuts, like the ship, but you'll have to earn them. If you jump to a non-map area you can get stuck.

If you know how to "turn on the yellow cheat bar" -- I presume you mean you know how to turn on DebugMode 1 which is the way to cheat in NWN. But to recap, do this:
1. Press the tilde key ~ to the left of the 1/! key (hoping it shows when I post).
2. A yellow tilde shows in the upper left corner of the screen. Type DebugMode 1 and return.
3. When you are in Debug Mode, yellow triggers appear all over the place. Don't step in them, some will break the game if you do.
4. Type . the period mark. A box will show up which lists all the areas in the game. Find the Merchant's Guild and you can jump there and get the map.
5. As I recall you can still walk out even when the door is closed to your going in. But if not you can jump to any area with the box. Be careful, you can land in a hostile area.
6. As soon as possible you should get out of DebugMode 1, before you mess up a trigger. Press tilde key again and type DebugMode 0 and return.

I have started on Tortured Hearts 2. I absolutely love it, but I have a big problem. When I first created my character, she was headless in the game. I played for a few hours, thinking it would clear up or she would eventually find a helmet to make it look like she had a head. But, I finally decided to go ahead and start a new game and pick a different face style. And when I started the game, this one had a head. I was so happy, I forgot to go around with my new character and pick up everything in the Guild. I've two days now into the game, and realized that I never picked up the map again with my new character. I have to walk over vast distances, and I haven't found any speed boots or anything. Is there any way to make that map appear somewhere? I am really stupid with computer stuff. I even had to have someone else put the module on my computer, because I don't know how. I know how to turn on the yellow cheat bar thing, but I don't have a clue how to use that thing to make stuff appear. If I had to start over, I would be so disappointed. Can anyone help me?

I've loved it so far, but it seems that none of my saved games will load. The client as a whole just crashed. Any fixes for this?

SPOILERS:

One machine requires you to go out of town and bash a cart for the part.
One needs glue, behind the door at the Astrologers, he'll want something for it.

This is an incredible module. Lots of fun... but I've come across a problem. I can't seem to finish the gem mine quest in Carrum Heads.

Spoilers

I fixed the one easy mine in the, IIRC, South mine. I have the pulley, and I fixed it with the tool bench (don't know what the lathe does), but don't get option to do anything else. I've read the hints in the download section, been all over town looking for solutions, and have bashed every chest, crate, bunk bead, and wagon and cannot fix the other two mines. PLEASE help!

Sacrelicious:

That's too bad, sorry you are having such a problem. Some other ideas:
1. Are you using Windows 7? If so, can you run NWN otherwise? I had to rebuy a version from GOG that would work at all on Win 7, also fiddle with the compatability, give myself every permission, a lot of things.
2. If that isn't the problem, there's two other small possibilities. One is that you need to install/reinstall DirectX, pref. ver.9 if your machine supports it. The other is that you have a corrupted download, somewhere in this mass. Which unfortunately means redownloading the mod and haks.

Posted by Sacrelicious at 2012-11-09 15:08:59
I have got those patch files and applied them. I've tried removing the entire game, reinstalling, then reinstalling the CEP and all the mod files. Still crashing whenever I try to open a weakon shop, it seems to be only happening in this mod as well. Also, to clarify, i made an error, its not a nwmain.exe crash, rather it simply says "neverwinter nights has stopped working".

Posted by DrHoo at 2012-11-09 05:40:09
Sacrelicious---

I can't say for sure it's the same bug, but several versions ago there was a common problem with the weapon shop causing a crash (but I don't know whether it was nwmain.exe crashing, or something else). I can only suspect that you are missing some resource related to the weapons, even though it sounds like you've done everything right. Do you also have the other CEP patches? (in the required hak pak list)There were a few items not in 1.52. I would try reinstalling the CEP stuff, recheck the .tlk placement, make sure you have the latest version of the mod and the haks.

Posted by Sacrelicious at 2012-11-09 00:14:42
Just reinstalled NWN to give this module a try, I've been out of the loop for a while. Installed CEP 152 and am running the latest version of NWN, installed and put all required files and patches into the right folders as well, but for some reason as soon as I open a shop window and go to the weapons tab in the shop I get a message that "nwnmain.exe has stopped working" and the game crashes. Anyone know whats going on???

Molletje--

SPOILERS

1. You get the key from a giant in a subarea of a cave in Farhills

2. Landlord quest has 2 endings
First talk to Old Peasant in caves. Wonder why he "recites from a book"
Second get in to landlord. Through guard by intimidation or lying, not bribery.
Third, get into convo about tenants. Now the "good" choice, build the houses for them, or the "evil" choice, tell him they are plotting against him.

Thank you for your quick reaction to my questions.

I should have been more precise the first time however.
The entrance to Gianthold I did find that one alright. The problem is how to enter the locked Giantholdgate.
After receiving the quest I talked to everyone but there is no dialogue with the people you mentioned.

Molletje--

Thanks!

SPOILERS

1. Rendon Steele
Will probably be killed before you ID him from his ring. He's in a secret hideaway, related to the Tutor.
2. Entrance to Gianthold is along east edge of Forest of Solitude
3. Landlord and Tenants--don't know where you're stuck--talk to miller, gate guard, landlord, old tenant. Take tenant quest.

Posted by molletje at 2012-10-21 05:25:50    Voted 9.75 on 10/21/12
A remarkable well constructed module.
I have a couple of questions though.
1. How do I enter Gianthol? Found nothing about it in the TH2Hints.
2. Where do I find Rendon Steele?
3. I am stuck with the Landlord & Tenants quest.
I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Thanks for the vote! Remember to save often. Paying for henches is one of the ways you earn their affection, most are through your actions though.

SPOILERS:

Baby wolves--just an endless collection for pocket change. See the Ranger in the forest N. of RF.
Golden Scale--definitely on the right track. It's stuck with magic so you can dispel it with magic...

Posted by Tekidek at 2012-10-09 18:19:49    Voted 10.00 on 10/09/12
Aw, nevermind. I googled for that answer (site:nwvault.ign.com "golden scale"). Just a dispel...

So far I can say that this is the BEST MODULE IN THE WHOLE VAULT! It gives me a sense of ADVENTURING. I mean, walking in the wilderness, noting all the Mineable Rocks I can ('cuz I don't have the miner feat yet!), and important things I shouldn't forgot.

This module reminds me of me, playing on those RP servers, where every place was new and hit me with that urge of TENSION and DISCOVERY! ;)
And I didn't even finished the module yet!

I thought of giving it a 9.75, because of that silly payment to level up the henchies. C'mon, 1500Gp to teach a warrior how to swing a sword better!?

But after that quest in Agnethelmt, where you teach Bruno how to speak properly, I just couldn't cast anything less than a 10! Well done :)

p.s.: What the hell I do with those "Baby Wolf" I keep finding?? And don't tell me they serve for nothing. I'm not leaving a puppy out there in the wilderness!! >:(

Posted by Tekidek at 2012-10-09 12:21:06    Voted 10.00 on 10/09/12
I got the quest from Thardius, to find the Golden Scale. It's in Farhills but my PC can't pick it up, tells something of the scale "being stuck on the floor". the conversation only tells of apraise and lore checks (which I both succed). I'm a Ro5/Wiz1. Also there's a Crystal in the tribune but I don't know what it is for. And a lot of blank scrolls. My guess so far is that I should cast some spell on the scale, but I'm really stuck :\

Thanks for the vote!

SPOILERS:

The man in the cave needs some immediate help. Try taking care of that first.

The starting scripts: This affects more than the HMC (which you could have dismissed if you didn't like it)and balance. Part of the new equipment is a special hide that lets you get the alchemy, mining, panning and herbalism feats. Have you tried to be trained for any of these? They are major money makers. There's no way to get the hide now. Maybe Subbassman knows how to get the controls back, but I don't, sorry.
