Dark Avenger Chapter 2 (req. MOTB!)
===================================
The saga continues. With Barrington's death you now have the location of the militia fortress and Elder D'Arque - those responsible for your, and your family's, murder. You set out to confront him, and all who stand in your way.
======================================
NOTE: THIS IS PART OF A CAMPAIGN YOU NEED TO HAVE A SAVE GAME AT THE END OF CHAPTER 1 IN ORDER TO PLAY
Chapter 1 can be found here
Link =====================================
INSTALLATION:
You will need Chapter 1 installed. Chapter 2 file contains da2.mod (put in modules directory), da2.hak (put in haks directory) and Dark Avenger folder (put in Campaigns Directory and overwrite any existing content)
STARTING THE GAME:
You MUST start from a save game from chapter 1. At the end of Chapter 1 you should have a bandit map, which can be activated to start chapter 2, or use the debug script. Alternatively, from any version of Chapter 1, bring down the console and type
DebugMode 1
rs ga_load_mod("da2","")
then once loaded, type DebugMode 0 in console
NOTE: A sample save game with an Eldritch Knight PC is provided. load this up and use the bandit map to continue. A Character Editor is available on the Vault if you wish to alter the PC

27/05/08 - New Starting options
If you exported your PC at the end of chapter 1 and want to use that, then start a new campaign with that PC, play the intro, and use the debug manual to collect the missing companions

=============================
Chapter 2 offers
- Estimated 4-5 hours of gameplay
- 2 new companions
- Expanded companion class options - talk to each about their skills to customise their level up packages. New packages can be unlocked in game.
- Varied monsters
- Tactical combat
- New party roster system - talk to BlackDeath the horse to control
- FR lore - I've decided to focus more on the FR lore I had in mind for this project in this chapter. Some liberties are taken, but the core is canon.
- Planar travel!

THANK YOU
Thanks to all who helped with playtesting and support, including Nadia, Argoyne, Kaida Rose, Caleya, Sharon, Shaughn, Thasic and apologies to any I missed. Thanks to Azzen - winner of the area design contest no less - for making a custom area for me (you'll know which one!). Thanks to all who supported me on my blog, on chapter 1 and the NWN2 community.
Custom content:
Skydomes and some fx - me
Cobweb fx - Hellcow
Cliffs - Trevor Morris
Stained Glass - Amraphael
Known issues
Some reports of crashes on loading 1 area in particular - I can't replicate this, but reloading and trying again should solve it.
Some areas a resource heavy, so older machines may wish to run down some settings to improve performance.
PATCH 270508 - copy these files into the Dark Avenger campaign directory and overwrite existing ones. This corrects a problem with Taron's influence (thanks Argoyne!), and adds new debug options
PLEASE NOTE - BlackDeath must be a companion at all times. He should not be selectable in the roster, bu if he is, do not remove him from the party!

Thanks for playing and please leave feedback!

I so wish to give this a 10, because in many aspects it deserves it.
Finally a story-driven module with interesting characters. Even the villains were memorable and well fleshed-out. A shame that it is not continued.
The sidequests were well-designed and actually made sense. Due to the different companions it also has a certain replayablility value, I guess.
Unfortunately I encountered quite a number of bugs. Since I made it a habit to always play with a clean override, I can only assume these are caused by something within the module.
SPOILERS:
- God, how I hated that horse!!! There were a few points where I really wanted to quit just because of that horrible, goddamn horse. It was always in the way. Couldn't find it's way two steps straight forward and 50% of the time just stopped doing anything in mid-fight. Also I couldn't really get the hang of the character. Mid to low BAB, low dmg, dreadfully slow, medium AC, no significant feats and a lot of damage restrictions. What's it supposed to do except stand in the way?
- Erratic companion behaviour. As mentioned above the companions often just stopped. The low point were the fights against the asssin guards where they had to be triggered every action. Attack - stop - attack - stop. Spellcasting was entirely impossible because they stopped doing anything before the spell was finished.
- The paladin wouldn't talk to me after I resvued him.
- Epilogue didn't trigger. The pirate wouldn't talk either.
- Weird balance. The udenad sidequest was dreadfully difficult even with Seich in the party, while the final dungeon was rather easy. This sidequest had some journal hickups. I encoutered the Aboleth via the rangers-hut rather early and did everything else afterwards. Still the journal and the companions kept referring to the mystery that had to be solved.
An exceptionally good story that needs some minor polish and a way to get rid of that annoying equine.

I was so impressed with this mod. You have very unique and interesting characters--I even ended up liking the dwarf by the end of chapter 2 (though I didn't think I would), and he's my favorite now.

ALL READ THIS IS ONLY 2/5 DONE; IT IS FANTASTIC BUT HE CANNED IT AT 2/5 NOT 2/3 SO THEREFORE U WILL GO A LITTLE CRAZY IF U PLAY IT. (I stopped playing it soon after this chapter started as I thought it was 2/3 done and not 2/5!...)
If you want my opinion and any other info either read what I posted in Ch. 1 or email/message me.
[Rating is downed 1.5 for being so very incomplete and not enough warning on how badly incomplete it is).

I really enjoyed playing both of the chapters...I really like the diversity of characters that will offer a change of gameplay the next time through. Speaking of...when will we see the next chapter? Any time soon, or have you moved on?

just as great as the first one.

Excellent once again! =) I really hope to see a NWN 2 version of chapter 3 instead of a DAO version, not because I think NWN looks better, (I actually think DAO is way better looking both in models and environment)but because I'd like to finish with the same character I played the first 2 parts with. Besides, there are bound to be people who don't even HAVE DAO and who would love to be able to finish the series =) Good luck on whatever you decide to do and thanks for your hard work, I had great fun!
I hope you make Chapter 3 on NWN2 because I personally don't really like DAO's engine & environment graphics - I think NWN2's environment is much more beautiful than DAO.

Even better than chapter 1 - congratulations - Just one thing : I think there's too much magicals objects - thanks for your work and sorry for my english
Not all are compatible - depending who you choose to kill and which heart you have - the heart with BlackDeath should give you the option to use it to summon something if you sacrifice it. _________________________ Wyrin
OK, so the clue in the cellar ties into the secret door on the ground level that leads to the caves. Got it.
The saves thing was weird but cleared up. I had reloaded from a save and still had the problem, but I never actually shut the game down and relaunched the EXE file. That cleared whatever had messed up.
Quick question on the fort and your 4 options to weaken them. I managed to complete all 4 options, but only 3 of these side quests got completed in the journal. The only one that didn't complete was Black Death's suggested quest. Is there something you need to do once you get the heart?
Hi Dave
The spot in the cellar is a clue to look for a secret door elsewhere in the cabin - its a bit backwards I know but look at the layout of the cellar and map that onto the ground floor layout to know where to look
The resting issue is a new one - nothing in override? _________________________ Wyrin
Are there any issues with using Rest? I keep getting "Cancelled Rest" without any other explanation, even when attempting to rest in areas where I have been previously able to rest successfully.
In the ranger's cabin, I went into the root cellar and defeated the spiders and beetles down there. I made a spot check that one of the walls looked like it was built more recently and suggested there was a secret compartment or something. Where is this spot and what do you do to find it? I've tried walking around the area where I got the message and cannot see any trigger spot even when zooming all the way in.
the plot isn't tied to any engine or ruleset, and so is easily transferable. but this is all pipe dreams at the moment, so we'll see.. _________________________ Wyrin
Wait, you want to continue chapter 3 possible in the DA:O toolset? That's a bioware engine of an entirely different game and ruleset, so the data would be incompatible for importing from chapter 2. Then there's the whole NWN2's toolset is from Obsidian/Atari, and Atari is in a legal dispute with Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast, and BioWare's not allowed to touch Dungeons and Dragons stuff ever since they went to EA. I could actually see problems from many ends cropping up if you use BioWare's newest game to make chapter 3.
Sorry Skree, Chapter 3 on permanent hold. I'd toyed with the idea of continuing the story with Dragon Age, but haven't played proerly with the DA toolset to know how viable that would be just yet. _________________________ Wyrin

I played this module a long time ago, and are now in the process of redownloading it to replay the new version. There is not much i can say about the sweet roleplaying experience that dark avenger is but...
Chapter 3? I am sure the question was made many times, but really, when? Or has it been canceled?

The best companion NPC I've seen in NWN2 - Blackdeath.

Hi
Didn't wait long enough after starting the game-all o.k.
Love this module but i know it takes lots of time-Thanks for all you've already done
Medtech
did you start chapter 2 separately? You should begin chapter 2 from using the map you find at the end of chaper 1 - in that case there shouldnt be any problms with changeing items or companions. there shouldn't be any item stripping so not sure what's happening.
Vengeance can only be held by the PC (item ref is either vengence or vengeance (not sure which)) _________________________ Wyrin
Hi
Sorry to bother you.
I just finished part 1 and started part 2
Wanted to keep all my items-lost those but kept companions
Moved all my inventory to other companions-everything saved but can't transfer the sword vengence and can't equip it.
is there an item id to get it back ,
Thanks
Medtech

Voted with the NW2 voting standart chart.
Well, this one 's a must have. Unless you're a brainless hack & slasher you're like it for sure.
Sad thing that it seems that the author have abandoned the project ( the part 3 was supposed to get here early in 2009.
Please tell me its under construction !!! (sob)
Thx for this good work !

So it seems no continuation of campaign. Must say that is a major minus in my books hence the drop of vote (from 9.75) as in my view this was in my top 3 SOT, H&C and DA. Actually it was my fave but a major peeve is an unfinished campaign, symphony, can you imagine a book.
Maybe somebody might wish to continue with the campaign but very doubtful.
I know it's your free time etc but I would be willing to pay the equivalent money as MOW, to complete the campaign. This was so much better.
