Five hundred years ago, Nenkal Isle was the capital of a mighty empire: a city of lush gardens, holy temples and lovely mountain vistas. In the course of only a few days, all of that changed when the mountain at the isle's center erupted in a conflagration of fire, ash and lava--killing nearly every citizen. For generations, the isle has remained a shunned place, a ruin rumored to hold untold horrors, haunted by restless spirits and accursed abominations. In all the years, none have gone to Nenkal and returned with their lives and sanities intact. Now, it is your turn.
I tried the debug command mentioned in the post above and it wouldn't let me drop Budd. Anyone know the exact command to type? Was this the end of the module anyway?

Got said bug also, however here's your workaround.
spoiler kinda!
This has occurred to me in a few other modules when companions are supposed to ditch you following a conversation. Its either how the authors are scripting these dialogues or how scripts pre-1.23 were done and now wont function post-1.23.
so, after the flaming horse and you've entered the basement of the barn, you'll see a chest. before moving to the middle of the room do the following
~ key
DebugMode 1
rs ga_roster_party_remove("budd")
DebugMode 0
wander forth to get the chest. for some reason without budd in the party, the dialogue functions perfectly.
For everything else however I found the area's sufficiently creepy, the wtf is going on factor is key. Blood everywhere and no one knows why. I like it. All the points the previous poster made are very near my thoughts exactly when coming to length, lore, and Lovecraft.
Voice acting in mods I wont rate higher or lower for. I think the effort scores you points, silly accents and that you sound like you're reading a script for the first time with little emotion loses you points. So it evens out.
Example- The military captain's speech directed towards what are supposed to be hardened jailbound criminals should be a wealth of screaming in their faces and intimidation. These people are dead anyways, there's no reason to be chummy with them. Theyre getting on that island or theyre going back in the hole.
Also all of Budd's dialogue should sound like he's about to throw up from nervousness.
Its a shame there will be no future chapters. Rated a little higher because the game-crashing bug only held me up for 10 minutes when i realized what was happening, instead of rage-quitting the entire mod 3 hours in like I'm sure some folks did. No rate-downs on the mod design for what could ultimately be nwn2 itself's fault.

Ultimately I "fixed" the prevailing bug via the toolset - I forget what specifically I did, and at only "fixed" it to the point of letting the game reach its conclusion...
As a whole, I'm sad to see this series not going anywhere, the Author seemingly having ceased to exist. There was a lot of potential here, and all flaws and bugs aside, this series could have become something great.
Pros
I loved the story here very well done, very inspired, truly the heart of any good module is the story, and this captures that idea well. Classic horror with both Silent Hill and small Lovecraftian notes, a richly developed background and history, and great detail, there's little more to be asked for in this department.
The atmosphere was also incredibly well done. The sound and visuals were superb, and I really have to give you credit for capturing the sense of desolation and horror throughout the module. The ashen landscape and fiery craters juxtaposed by the ruined remnant of civilization made for an excellent combination. Well done and well executed.
Cons-
The Voice Acting was well, let's face it good amateur voice acting is almost impossible to find. Not even Adam Miller had great voice acting in his modules, and he's a god among freelance Module Designers. I'd still take Shadowlords, Dreamcatcher, and Demon over SoZ and MotB That said, the voice acting was terrible. Distracting, detracting, derailing having silent dialog throughout would have been the better choice.
The length was a disappointment as well, and this is almost a half-positive. The module, with so much potential, closes down its first chapter very abruptly and the pacing seems curtailed. Honestly, I was hoping for what would have amounted to another entire module using the length of this one as a measurement.
There are more on both pros and cons, but I'll sum it up by saying that the pros outweigh the cons drastically, and the greatest con is the disappearance of the Author and hope that this series, like so many others for NwN2, will ever see completion.

Very good module but I get the same crash as the others (the barn). I have installed the latest patch (1.23), which made me able to launch the mod (v1.22 resulted in a game crash at the very beginning...), but I cannot continue, now. I hope this will be solved soon, because it is a good mod until now !
I too will hold off on a vote until I can finish the mod... I also crash to the desktop EVERY time I approach the chest in the silo basement. Very unfortunate, b/c this mod looks to have a LOT of potential. It was well done, original and had a great feel to it up to that point. A.M. Oleksiuk, if you're out there, please take the time to debug you mod, many of us are waiting! Thanks. _________________________ angry_yard_gnome

Looks like I get to add my crash too, same place as everyone else. Down in the basement of the barn as you start to walk over to the chest. N the only thing in my override is the file I needed for this mod. _________________________ "Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time. The Prophecies will be fulfilled. The Dragon is Reborn."

Crash in silo as well. Up to that point it was pretty good though - good horror feel, not something you see much in modules. Few typos, and though some of the voice work was terribad, some wasn't.
My game crash to desktop at the base of the silo also, too bad this is a really fine effort. Probably a 1.21/1.22 victim. Hopefully the author will take a look at it and fix it. _________________________ "Some have to dance, some have to kill" - My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
Looks like this module is now broken, and the author has not responded to the issues. That is too bad, because this looked like this could be real fun.
I reinstalled everything exactly as I was supposed to, but I don't start in jail. I start in some holy city where no conversations trigger, and there is no area transition behind any door. This module is flat broken!
Yeah, I am not sure what is going on, but even with everything installed just exactly as I the read me advised, there are no conversations, and there are no area transitions to the doors in the city when you start the module. Probably another 1.21 patch victim?
Let me know if I did something wrong, but I don't believe I did.

I'd like to vote on this one, but... as it stands there's a cataclysmic bug at the speak trigger between me and the chest at the bottom of the Silo. The game crashes with a 100% replication rate.
Any suggestions would be nice. _________________________ Forgiveness is the true test of justice....

I really loved the atmosphere of this module: it has been a long time since I actually got scared during a NWN game!

An excellent module that does a very good job in setting the atmosphere. The music, howls of pain and fear, and desolate setting gets you right into the mood of exploring the creepy island and draws you into the mystery of what happened there. And, of course, I cannot fail to mention the custom character speech. Well done.

Wonderfully spooky adventure in a desolate interesting locale. This was fun and I'm looking forward to the next part.

Oh yeah, it seems you need Mask of the Betrayer to run this baby

Mister Crowley, did you think you were pure?
Mister Crowley, did you speak with the dead?
Ha, what a great mod! Nice voice acting, spooky areas, very original! A bit short though... the door that you can't open is a nasty time waster, too...
For those about to vote 3 or less, make sure you start a new campaign (not a new module) and upgrade to the latest patch. I can't see what else is missing...
I'm having problems getting this one to run. When I try, the load-up screen fades & stalls. Any suggestions?

Gave this a 3 (poor execution, potential unrealized)
It's the only mod/campaign addition I have in my folders. The opening cutscenes play just fine, but then the whole thing crashes to the desktop right afterwards.
Can't give a good score when the thing is unplayable (and I have played other mods before, so I know how to install and remove them)

After a few weeks fighting the mighty Vista Dragon that wouldn´t allow me to install and update NWN2, I finally manage to defeat the beast and now I can play the game again... and what a great way to start... this one is a really great mod. The atmosphere is perfect, with lots of details, from the carefully written story to the interesting encounters. And the final scene was very effective... I definitely want to know what will happen next... well done!
Interesting game thus far.
I'm a bit stuck; I entered the lower level cave at the expedition map area. My game froze from there--it got halfway through the load screen and just stayed halfway for a while. I closed the game without issues.

This is a really great mod. I was intrigued from the beginning. I enjoyed the openness of the areas, and I always like when enough time has been put in to do the voices. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

I really enjoyed this mod. Great atmosphere, storyline was interesting and the areas were big enough to explore but small enough you weren't endlessly slogging. I'm looking forward to the next part.
I am not going to score this as I didn't really get a chance to play it. It kept crashing during the opening jail sequence. I played it through 5 times and it locked up at five different points in the opening conversation, so it doesn't seem like it is any one thing in particular. I have played over a dozen mods downloaded from the vault and this is the first problem I have had with any of them.
Looked really good (I can tell you did a tremendous about of work on it), but I can't really evaluate it as I didn't get very far. I will try it again after the next update. _________________________ Mediocrity ain't so bad!

I am REALLY waiting for part deux.
I GOT INTO THIS BIG TIME !
Don't let me down
I liked the fact that their wasn't much lying
around except what the RECENT teams brought with them. But, I hoping something is buried/
left-over from the GOOD OL' DAYS !
NOTE: I want my Girlfriend back :-(
or a new one :-)
PLOT: EXCELLENT ! I liked the priest voice-over-(creepy !)
Ready for part deux- watching for your posts!
GREAT JOB !

Good module. I like the "possession" bit. The atmosphere is well done. The music fits very well. Nice twist at the end and I enjoy the lack of loot. Considering 500 years has passed a lot will have deteriorated and/or been looted by the "survivors" and hidden away. Plus, Grimmy isn't "stocked to the hilt".
Thank you for taking the time and writing this module. I look forward to Chapter 2. _________________________ "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

BTW have found on character creator there are 2 new slots. Normally you have the choice of dwarf, human etc etc, now There is Bad Strref and "the last attempt to detect your settings" as race options? Also going through OC again and 2 things happen that are very strange and have not seen before. In the swamp ruins had noticed that the "tracks" are now walls suspended above the ground and worse still when you find the silver shard there is no movie scene and then the option to either look around or go straight back to village does not happen. You collect the shard and return to West Harbour and Daeghun does not recognise the fact that you have shard. End of game. This is quite a recent occurrence and so am posting this comment on all games I have recently downloaded. Maybe it's the ruddy overrides again. How do you post this for Bioware/Atari to see and take note?
