Description
Did you ever want to play the dark side? How about being one of the most evil, dreaded, despised creatures of Faerun? How about being a drow?
Find out in this roleplaying module.
A Hunt through the Dark Remastered is a conversion of my Hall of Fame series for NWN1. I took some freedom to change some elements and the storyline to create a more exciting, thrilling experience based on the new drow novels of the "War of the Spiderqueen" and "Lady Petinent" series. This means, the classic A Hunt through the Dark series is cut with the end of chapter 3 and a new storyline unfolds in chapter 4.
A Hunt through the Dark Remastered is the first part of a trilogy covering the time and events of Lolth's silence.

Voted 7.00: `Deserves a look,` as per voting standards. Constructive feedback:
Very interesting. Gorgeous area design, interesting concept. I spent some time drooling over the character models and areas. In short, the visuals were by far the best part of this module.
Level design (minus encounters) was also nice, although I think it would have been better without an fully-revealed map. There was one tunnel that initially appeared to be bugged, as it ran into the edge of the map with no area transition or cue. Traps were frustrating, as most of them were impossible for to disarm.
Writing was poor overall, with many typos and some very awkward dialogue. Conversations would have appeared much nicer with less clunky animations. Few conversations felt meaningful, and if any characters had depth, they kept it too themselves.
Combat tended to be unbalanced. Combat difficulty varied wildly - some battles were a breeze, some were very frustrating. The game was clearly designed with a spell-caster PC in mind, as it is impossible to achieve anything resembling a balanced attack with a combat or rogue class. Battles with large numbers of low-level followers cause AI-based frustration quickly. The game would have benefited from more XP.
The voiceover narration was cringe-worthy, and the timing was very off.
Spoilers:
There is also a massive loot drop near the endgame, and as I felt the need to carry it with me, a hint the end of the game was very near would have been appreciated, especially since there was a merchant in a very strange place earlier in the game.
The ending was also very anticlimactic - I ran from an overwhelming fight into a cut-scene where I was held mute.
It is easy to bypass the giant spider fight, but the PC is still reamed out for killing "Lloth's children'

Definitely a must play! I ran a full class Scout (KAEDRIN's FTW!!) and had a blast on this Sunday night (just wrapped up). Tomorrow, it's on the part two! Thanks for putting this together, as I know it was an incredible amount of work. Having never played the NWN version, I truly was able to enjoy this with a fresh set of eyes. That said, I can certainly feel another run through on this, quite probably with a rogue/mage with the idea of going arcane trickster in part two (I'll preload the toon into a char creator mod for a bag of holding LOL). fast paced, plenty of action. I liked it. Actually felt like I was leading a war party. Best part was the gnome fortress imo.
Ok... I'm stucked 'cause of what I think is a bug:
Entered the Surface, attacked the village. Everything was OK.
At the end of the assault there was some kind of "rebellion" and the males decided to get back to Underdark. OK.
Went to Underdark with only one drow following me (Llomir and the priestess stayed in front of the village - bug number one?), fighted a demon in front of Underdark's entrance and got in. Not so OK.
Founded Thriandir inside the halls. Tryed to talk to him and... nothing happens. And nothing still happening. No new dialogs, no journal entries, no new attacks, no NPCs following me (except the rogue). I'm stucked.
Tryed to reload an old save before killing the demon and nothing changed.
What do I do?

For me the story is linear. Only one NPC, shop/gold etc unusable.
The only "thing" is actiang a drow, and resting with a kit. Not enough for for be good.
Thank you for your feedback. Well, the music is a matter of taste.
I know that those scripts are sometimes a little bit unstable in combat. I'll have a look into it (again). Maybe I can get it more stable. _________________________ Lolthanchwi (2009)

hi, I played and finished yr mod last week... Brought up memories from nwn1... Liked the general plot & the characters... especially the quite "suicidal" stubborness of the priestess (I'd rather liked to plot against her...). I found the module playable and enjoyable enough even with a female character.... (I'll try a male later). I got a minor problem at he end: the fight with the guardians at the gate to the surface didn't start..... but the following conversations fired correctly.
the one thing which spoiled sometimes the fun for me - not the fun exactly : let's say "ambiance" - was the choice of the music. Some BG scores sounded inappropriate to me according to the places they were "played" (too "epic" for places where not fight has to occur for example) and sometimes even boring or irritating (may be due to the shortness of some of the tracks you used which loop after 1'30" or so).
I'm rating yr mod too and I'll do the same for the sequel when I'm finished with it (for the time being I'm stumbling among drow ruins....).
Thanks for creating this adventure!!!

I liked this module. The story was good, the design was good. The ending fit the story/plot (a rarity in game design), I would call the ending very "Drowish".
The only real problem was with the Drider leader not following and in the fighting did nothing but stay in a corner.

Awesome!
Storywise way better than the original NWN1 version (which had it's lengths). I don't mind the railroad plot, it's a very good one. Everything felt logical and I didn't encounter any real troubles.
I think the greatest coompliment I can give this module is, that I had 8 hours of tremendous fun with it that wasn't spoiled by anything. I can't wait to continue to Lolthanchwi (which is hidnered by some technical troubles at the moment, see my post there).
SPOILERS
I encountered two minor glitches towards the end:
- When Nelad attacked me I knocked him down right in the first round. After he got up he stopped attacking. He just stood there and let himself being slaughtered.
- Thriandir (sp?) didn't trigger the first time I re-entered the underdark. I went way back and wondered what is supposed to happen now. After a reload he was there but I completely missed him among all the militia until I figured out I had to talk to him to trigger the cutscene.
Playing with a drow's perspective was suprisingly fresh. The ambiance was nice and the characters interesting, except for Piwielein(sp?) who was too over-the-top. Traps were impossible to disarm, so it involved lots of triggering and healing. Getting the driders to follow me seemed buggy. All in all a fun mod to play.

I enjoyed playing through this module. The story line was interesting with some nice surprises. The characters were well written.

Well... I'm lost. I don't understand. I make a character, the DC is 36. I make a new one, the DC is 20. I have no idea wtf is it like that but, seems that now it's playable at least and I can enjoy one of the few Drow-modules.
Mby it has to do with the fact I asked to be 6 this time instead of 5... but it would be quite irrational.
Something is wrong there. I won't vote because somehow it seems that if you manage to get past the frustrating ten minutes it's fun.
But seriously... traps EVERYWHERE, first one has a DC of... 36! For a level 5 or even 4 character, are u sure? Basically you have 1/20 chances to disable a trap because you need to get a 20 for it to work? With no starting gold whatsoever to get healing potions? (yeah you have 4 healing thingies that I don't know the English term for, ain't gonna bring u far)
Even rogues can't seem to get past that except with a huge amount of luck. The allies can't even be controlled -at least the militian we have early- and anyway they can't disable traps.
So...only way is to rush on the traps or to summon something on them it seems. Sad. You can't even avoid the said traps, you're FORCED to play a rogue.

While I have enjoyed the module so far, I get the feeling that this module is... lacking something... (maybe too linear **spoiler** e.g. there isn't an option not to kill the adventurers after they've cleared out the bugbear camp **spoiler end**). I also hit the bug with the illithid/beholder that when I accepted the quest and brought the beholder brain to the mindflayer he ignored me. It's been many years since I played the nwn1 version so I wasn't sure what was changed.
The lack of a vendor is also trouble, the only one we got was right at the beginning and stopped functioning after the first quest, I didn't invest in the lore skill so I had to rely on the companion **spoiler again** (who eventually died) **spoiler end** . this leaves a lot of unidentified items towards the end (and I was fortunately to have brought a bag of holding with me - a habit when not playing a str-based class)
All in all a well-written mod with a solid storyline, but some of the minor inconveniences can be really annoying. Gonna start part 2 and I'm looking forward to it.

I've really appreciated this module. Maybe the fights were a little bit simple, but i've liked the story and the underdak set, i will start the second chapter soon.
I have only just started playing this module and I am liking the "being a drow in the Underdark" part as I have never tried a Drow PC before. I have realised that the storyline is very much linear so I am prepared for that (A rollercoaster has a predetermined path also...) I think I found a bug - I have just found the deep goblins that I was ordered to kill and when I tried talking to them, I asked the leader (? - the one who spoke to my party) what they might have to offer for their freedom when Calulith says "We were ordered to kill them." PC (me) replies "Let's do this thing", but then only that one deep goblin warrior turned hostile, he was an easy kill at 5:1. I had to RMB attack the rest {hey I'm Lawful Evil >;-O }- I guess their faction wasn't changed? Keep up the good work.

Downloaded way back, but never got to comment.
A module very well done.

Amazing module. First time I've played a drow and it was fun. And I even wasn't evil, just self-centered, cynical and ambitious.

Great story, atmosphere and characters. Had a bit of a rough start to get into the evil Drow playstyle but once you go with it, it's quite enjoyable.

Good job on this module. Some of the fights were wicked hard playing with a rogue/ranger. Recommended.

I've played the NWN version which was longer. This version is very well done and the story is a little different but interesting. The final battle is impossible for the devil.
I encounter some bugs, none breaking the game.
luday87 : "it is a pity there isn't content support for female character"
It is practically impossible to make a "drow" game with identical content for males and females. Females rule drow society and males are essentially their slaves. The problem is that you just cant justify similar plot unfolding for both genders. _________________________ I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!
Fun adaptation of your previous module. I see some MAJOR changes to the plot though. The actual "missions" are the same, but the state of the world (hint: lolth) has majorly shifted.
I don't understand what you are trying to do with the economy here. Basically every goblin drops a +15 godslaying weapon (well, ok, not really, mostly adamantium weapons, and many powerful items), I even got myself a staff of the magi, a minor artifact in the PnP game that has been significantly beefed up by more spells, lost the SR (as a drow my natural SR is higher anyways), and replaced "absorb enemy spells into charges but may explode if overdone, and the amount it has is unknown to you" with "you know exactly how many charges, and you can charge it yourself by casting spells on it (oh look, I have a ton of items with use per day spells of high levels).
I had tons of + spell slots items as well, and other obscenely powerful items.
Sure I had to LEAVE most of the loot behind, but I still got to sell plenty of it, the merchants are capped, usually at 1000gp per item (so its funny when i sell them a 50k item for 1000gp), and a limited amount of gold to buy items with, I still ended up with over 100k gp (and nothing worthwhile to buy... not that i needed to, i kept on getting godly uberloot).
There was a grand total of ONE merchant who will buy stuff in this module, the next one lolchiwani or however it is spelled, had 4 i think. Still I completely drained the funds of every merchant I came across, leaving me with gobs and gobs of money, and a ton of items I lugged about still, and a ton of items discarded...
Basically you get uber godly items, including supercharged artifacts, as random loot. You cannot sell or buy anything, so you don't get a choice. Play a "wrong" class and you don't have loot, play a "right" class and you become a god because of said drops. (ex, a wizard or sorcerer highly recommended, you get a staff of the magi!) _________________________ I do not have a superman complex; for I am God, not Superman!
I think I ran into a game stopping bug. After the quests I mentioned earlier, when I have the wand of energy immunity, I need to talk to Piwiewien to be able to advance, but she doesn't talk to me.
So far I only ran into bugs in this area. I'll try an old saved game and if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to restart the module.
I tried cleaning my override, but that didn't change anything.
Hi Markus. Maybe you're already aware of this, but I ran into some bugs in the ilithid/beholder quest. If I kill the beholder, then the ilithid won't talk to me, so I can't complete the quest that way. If I kill the ilithid and then inform the beholder and claim my reward, I don't lose the ilithid brain (I don't remember if was the brain or another thing, the proof that you killed him), it's still in my inventory. I guess the latter isn't a big deal, but just in case.
I maybe should say that I got the quest from the ilithid first, maybe there's no bug if I speak first with the beholder. I'll try it if I have a previous saved game.
About the driders quest, if you use their help to kill Sywym, they all die, so I can't speak with the drider leader after that. I made the quest again, killing the lich myself, so I know there's no reward, but is this normal? At first I though it was a bug and that I should be able to speak with the leader, but with no reward, maybe it was intended this way.
I'm liking your module so far, just pointing out some bugs. I played the NWN 1 version too, so I'm looking forward for the rest of the story. I'll play Lolthanchwi when I finish this one.
Congratulations on the module of the year, I'm a bit late but better late than never!
