***Now includes a Multiplayer version (you can play the MP version in either Multi or Single Player modes)***
"Approximately 60 years have passed since The Great Battle of Charnia (see "The Exile"). After that battle, the creatures and followers of Zorn continued to grow in numbers and eventually run the Charnians from their homes. The Charnians escaped into the forest and eventually crossed through a great mountain range via the mountain dwarves passage. On the other side of the mountain they began to build a small town with a few outlining villages. The followers of Zorn eventually stopped hunting the Charnians and returned to their lands. They began to lose focus (since there was no one to torment) and eventually separated into different clans and tribes based on race (goblins, orcs, ogres, dark dwarves, zornians, etc.) About 10 years ago your (the PCs) father, Adwen, led a large group of Charnians in an attempt to return to Charnia. Since the attacks had pretty much ended, they felt that maybe Zorn's evil creatures had all destroyed each other and returning to Charnia would be safe. The caravan never returned. You and your brother were young at the time. Your mother has never recovered from the loss of her husband. A month ago your brother led a small group to try and find out what happened to the first caravan. They were only supposed to be gone for a couple of weeks, but haven't returned. You have decided to form a very small (thus undetectable by the evil creatures) party to search for your brother."
I recommend first playing "Chronicles of Charnia - Escape from Charn" and "Chronicles of Charnia - The Exile" (not necessary though - but helps develop the setting and history).

I enjoyed this a lot. A good story driven camapign that picks up after the events of "The Exile". Having palyed the prologue I found many places and settings familiar in a good way.
Combat was somewhat on the easy side when all the sidewuests are done. The main story is fairly linear but makes sense plot wise.
My only criticism would be athat the finaly fight was too similar to the ending of "The Exile". A bit of a deja vu...
As far as I can see it had no bugs and ran smoothly. The companions were less developed than I had thought them to be. all in all a very enjoyable campaign.
Hi Karen,
Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment. There is a final cutscene after the last battle but it must not have triggered for you. There were issues with final movies functioning in game back when I released this so my only option was to have a sepereate movie. I have a completely different ending in the works but it'll have to wait until I am finished with IWD NWN2. I also plan on using some of my new skills to add additional custom content, more dialog options and more back story. The roleplay aspect was very good when we have played this in MP mode ;) (back when Taverns of Hidden Tales existed). My goal is to improve the last parts of the campaign and then start running MP sessions on NeverwinterConnections.
Thanks again,

I enjoyed the mod and have to compliment you on the beautiful outside areas - they were some of the nicest I've ever seen! I also liked the storyline. That said, I have some suggestions for future endeavors. The amount of magic armor and weapons was too great for the mod and made the game way too easy. I would suggest either cutting down on what you can buy or find or making the enemies tougher. I also found the companions too one-dementional with no back story and almost no roleplay (although you did list it as light). I was also disappointed that the end movie has to be played after the game finished rather than as part of the mod. I've never encountered that before and having forgotten it was mentioned I was lost after the final battle. You might at least want to put in a conversation at the end. My vote - 8.5

Haven't played this since it was first released, but I remember it was a compelling module, and definitely worth playing. _________________________ My Website: Link

Hunted everywhere I could think to find father, but never found Grimstan mountains. I decided to have a dialogue with Ian to get a clue. Big mistake. He repeated his dialog about saving his friends -- a quest we completed long ago -- and said he'd go to Brinsby to tell his mother. He then left my party! I went to Brinsby to find him...not there.
At that point I gave up.
I was level 7 at the end (swashbuckler human), and the battles were no real challenge throughout the module. Some of the NPC's died in the final battles, but the swashbuckler suffered almost no damage. My character never died once, and that is NOT normal for me, because I don't do much gaming.

Suggestion #1: More dialog options for the main character. In probably 95% of the situations there's only one option, and it involves very truncated and stiff speech like "Let's go". It's impossible for the main character to have a personality.
Suggestion #2: Fledge talks about how unusual it is for there to be talking creatures, and he wants to find some, including his friend Boone. They encounter some talking spiders and the main character is kinda like "that's weird" but Fledge has no reaction. Then the talking cat quest...they find him, he talks, but again, no one reacts. Fledge has no comment, even when asked. And eventually, when they find Boon (the talking creature specifically mentioned in the dialog with Fledge), Boone says nothing, Fledge doesn't talk to him and Fledge makes no comment. Kinda strange.
Suggestion #3: Some kind of clue about how to start the father quest. Grimstan Mountains? They aren't on the map.
I'm really liking this but I'm stuck. Finished all the quests but the father one, which I'm guessing is the big boss fight but I have no idea where to go. Have been running around looking but I'm tired and it's taking away from the Module. Will you (or someone)help? _________________________ "You take a look around and you see that the law is there only to protect power. You'll see plenty of law but what you won't see is any justice."
For Firefox users to download the end movie, go to Tools->Options->Applications tab. All those under "Content Type" starting with "Windows Media Audio/Video file..." (mine has two, others may have more), change the "Action" to "Save File". Don't forget to change it back if it's meant to be on whatever setting it was before making this change.

Forgot to tell you : loved the addition of Dead Can Dance =)
Very enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the later stages when I revisited the places in which I'd adventured in Part 2 of the trilogy.
What brings it down a little is a certain two-dimensionality of some of the characters, a few Faerûn-specific items (e.g. Nasher's Nimble Boots) which crop up and stick out like a sore thumb in the non-Realms setting, and the final battle - it's very much a replay of the end battle in 'The Exile' and just isn't interesting.
The end movie wouldn't download or play for me; Firefox reported a runtime error but eventually showed a still picture, IE8 reported that the site was 'Forbidden' and wouldn't load it at all, and Safari didn't seem to have problems but only showed a still screenshot, getting slightly bigger for a couple of seconds and then freezing, with a caption. I waited and waited but there was nothing more.
By the way - the witch seems, from the markings on her stomach, to be a Jaffa. It would be an interesting idea, not unlike something that I'm doing in a fanfic at Twisting the Hellmouth, but it doesn't fit the mythos. I presume that it's just an accidental resemblance? _________________________ "You do well to flee, townspeople. I will pillage your lands and dwellings. I haven't finished yet, but I wanted to compliment you on the wonderful battle with the Lizard Queen. I was expecting a typical NWN2 combat cakewalk and had my butt handed to me. I actually had to buff, use potions, read scrolls, and a variety of tactics to win this battle. Superb! I'm playing through with my own characters (half-orc fighter, half-elf rogue, Asimar cleric and my main a human ranger/wizard. The main has stats that were generated by an editor, so he's got high stats. The rest of the party is vanilla. This was a very challenging battle, which is what I really look forward to when playing. You'll get a great rating from me, if things stay this way. _________________________ 'nut
@billabong2606: This was made with both MotB and Soz so that maybe the cause of the crash. Also, make sure you have all the files and folder in the correct places and a clean override folder.

A wonderful experience, time well spent.
I especially enjoyed the companion's dialogs, (when right clicked and choose talk) staying current with what quest you're working on.
A well written, perfectly executed and masterfully presented story.
Thank you slowdive_fan. _________________________ Help is good when asked for,

@The_Incinerator: Thanks for playing through all of the
Charnia modules and taking the time to comment. Sorry about the druid weapons thing (I guess I don't play druids very much). Someday, I'd like to enhance the dialog (use more party chat and interactions), make it more multiplayer compatible, and fill out the areas with more NPCs, but baby slowdive is keeping us very busy for now. Thanks again for your very kind comments and feedback. Let me know how the custom party works out. _________________________ Chronicles of Charnia - Escape from Charn (NWN2) Chronicles of Charnia - The Exile (NWN2) Chronicles of Charnia - Lanterna
Simply... beautiful. I was itching for an interesting campaign to play and I got it :D :D
Good story with a great twist, lots of sidequests and lifelike companions. Beautiful areas as always :)
I have only one complaint: the description says that Druids are supported, but I didn't find *a single* magical weapon that druids can use, so I finished the game with a Sickle +2 :(
Other than that - GREAT. I love it. I'm thinking of replaying it with a custom party sometime soon. Looking forward to your next story. Oh, and give baby slowdive my best ;)
dlevins,
Wow, one of your top 3 favorite modules! That is quite a compliment. I spent a TON of time, effort, and love into this project so it is great to hear that it is being enjoyed by others than just myself. Thanks to all who have played and commented, it keeps me going and encourages me to continue forward. Back to IWD for me...well, actually I'm getting ready for baby slowdive in a week or two ;) _________________________ Chronicles of Charnia - Escape from Charn (NWN2) Chronicles of Charnia - The Exile (NWN2) Chronicles of Charnia - Lanterna

It is excellent professional work. I tried many modules for NWN1 & NWN2, but this one is among my 3 best modules. I hope that IWD NWN2 will have the same quality. My thanks.

Anyone else tried this campaign lately? I've been pretty busy with IWD NWN2, but I'd like to revisit Lanterna someday and add more dialog, roleplaying options, custom content, etc. This is assuming that people would be interested in an improved version and the work/time/effort wouldn't only be for me...(I guess I've already invested 1000+ hours into this project, so what'a another 100+ even if no one plays it, Haha). _________________________ Chronicles of Charnia - Escape from Charn (NWN2) Chronicles of Charnia - The Exile (NWN2) Chronicles of Charnia - Lanterna

Well, Lanterna was a pretty nice exprience. It wasn't anything wondurous but was entertaining enough. The landscape is just beautiful, battles are smooth (albeit quite hard at the beginning as there's too few healing items available) and there's enough side quests to keep players occupied.
The only major issue in this campaign is quite stiff writing. Even though the world is lively, the characters are not as many of them doesn't have any definig charasteristics and they say only what they have to say. Sometimes even reactions are unlogical, for example the side quest involving a guild of thieves who are WAY too ungrateful for my help (the player characters says he/she guessed it would end that way but I certainly didn't). _________________________ A good module author is PAG: Patient, Ambitious and Gutsy.

****Spoilerish***********
I mean the kobold at the end of the cave, the one stuck in the rock. No one can reach it, but it can't reach anyone either. But like I said, it's not really such a big deal. It's not quest-breaking, because no one demanded that we kill *all* the critters. I just called the kobold a big, fat coward for hiding, gathered Miki and Balen and left. ;)
*******End of spoilerish*************
Regarding the exit/entrance problems, yeah, I know. I build modules (only for myself, my family and friends, I'm nowhere near good or brave enough to make them public), and the stuck in doorway is always vexing. I use the WASD keys to get my PC out of doorways, and for the deeper cave-entrances I use transitions. I never thought about the "door to waypoint" method. Thanks for mentioning it, I'll look into that one, sounds promising.
***** SPOILERS ****
-Are you refering to the kobolds on the battlement? They can be reached with ranged weapons or by bashing the barrels.
-Transitions from "door to door" are a game engine issue. I guess I could have chosen "door to waypoint", but this is the first time someone mentioned this.
***** END SPOILERS ****
I'm glad you enjoyed the campaign enough to replay it (I designed it to be replayed since I would be replaying it many times during testing).
@marcklp: It is good to hear that you enjoyed all three modules. Thanks for the comments and suggestions; I'll try and work them into future projects (working on IWD remake now) or when I revisit "Lanterna" again.
