Thanks for a very enjoyable game (well, as much fun as you can have being a drow anyway lol)! I didn't encounter any problems - other than figuring out how to get around! No glitches though, and all the conversations fired correctly. I'm looking forward to part 3!

Really enjoyed. No tedious and long dialogues. Interesting through the whole campaign.

Well done! I thoroughly enjoyed this module, as well as it's prequel. Two nights in a row I'm going to bed at around 1 AM because of finishing up these awesome modules. Thanks for putting your time and efforts into creating enjoyable products for those of us who like them!

Any news on when the third chapter will be complete?

Posted by karen at 2011-10-15 15:17:34    Voted 8.75 on 03/23/12
I would appreciate some help - there seems to be something wrong with the download. After opening it there is 0k in the mod! Is there another place to dl or can you fix this problem?

Thanks,

Karen :)

Nowhere near as fun or interesting as the first part. A LOT of backtracking thorough the same tunnels. Maybe a map system should have been added? Story was also much less interested and did not really seem to concern the pc much at all. In the end I got bugged and could not finish after entering the tower.

Got it to work, but now I can't find my way down the chasm...

Thank you for your feedback.

Well, I'm late - but I hope you are still there to read. Here some comments on some "flaws in the plot you mentioned"

Since I am sorry to say that I have no time to work at chapter 3 there is no harm done in revealing them...

SPOILERS AHEAD

- Lolth's silence means that her clergy is stripped off their holy powers. So Morana will not gain any experience and she has no spells to cast. But of course she can still use magical items for clerics, wear special armor. This is part of the challenge and it is something ALL her fellow priests of Loth and the matrons share and desperately try to conceil.

You are right. AHTD told the story of the scout, the hero. You were the one to lead your group to the light and into desaster.

Lolthanchwi throws you back into drow society and so your role changes back to the usual role of a low ranking drow male. You join Morana, a much stronger personality than Piwiewien, and so she takes over the lead.
But you may have noticed that your character is not consent with this new role. Thriandir is the symbol of rebellion and his appearance is the foreshadow of the comming conflicts between the old drow system and those who want change.

Chapter 3 plays with those two storylines. You will dig deeper into the secret of Lolth's silence and you will learn more about the social struggle between males and females (which is much the same as the struggle between the drow deities Lolth, Vhaeraun, ... and others ;) )

There is a reason why the crone makes her appearance in Lolthanchwi and you will see the sense in this when you've played chapter 3. ;)

Greetings Wayne

Thanks for this, I enjoyed playing. However, I think a Hunt Through the Dark worked better, primarily because in HTTD the PC really got to play as himself, whereas here Morana is really the focus of the story, and it feels like the PC is just along for the ride.
The player never really gets to choose anything meaningful, and there are few places where the player even gets to decide how to respond to things.

A few things:
a) Is it intended that Morana can never gain XP or level up? I see no particular reason for this, even though she has no spells. [Maybe a bug from other overrides I have installed?]
b) It would be nice if one of the merchants had a few restoration potions, its frustrating to carry around the damage from the shadows for so long. There are a couple of scrolls, but a bit more would be nice.
c) It was frustrating to have no class choice over levelup for the two NPCs. They should be able to advance in Blackguard or Rogue.
d) A few typos. One like had "guaranty" instead of guarantee, and another typo in the same line.
e) A couple of areas where slightly more guidance could be added; in particular, the House Officer that gets me into the House T... matron in the main chasm should have a message like "The matrons will not discuss the alliance until you have enlisted the White Spider mercenaries in the upper tradeway" or some such.
It would also be fun to differentiate the two alliance quests; the assault from the orc-creatures is fine (though maybe the officer shouldn't be immortal) but the undead one was a bit dull. Maybe instead of just two "fight off the attackers", the mercenaries could send you off to another zone, to get some particular supplies or something? Or somehow tie it to protecting the water supply?
Adding names for the various plot characters (instead of House Officer) would also be helpful to make it clear who you need to talk to.
f) The rust monsters weren't fun, they're just an instant reload.
g) When I am told to explore the main chasm for the first time, I get a message from Mordana along the lines of "not now, we need to get to the chasm" when I enter the side tunnels. It isn't apparent that the side tunnels are the way to get to the chasm. Journal and text could be altered to change this.
h) The Crone didn't really make sense, plotwise. What was her motivation? How did she fit into things? Why did she just... show up in the Duergar digs? Also, what were they doing there, why were they sticking around?
i) The ending was a bit anticlimactic, particularly when the crazy matron just sits there, speechless after the fight. Have her respond to you killing the spider somehow. Also, foreshadow the spider more too; I'd never heard of it until the end. Make people have some horror stories about the giant spider - maybe they think it is some kind of Avatar of Llolth, and thus a further sign that they have been abandoned. It would be cool to have some despairing people that are actively trying to sabotage the survivors, because they think they are trying to carry out Llolth's will.
j) One way to increase player choice would be to allow the PC to choose which factions to ally with or assist, or have some optional missions that shift the balance of power between the various Houses and the mercenaries, which would change the outcome of the scenario. Maybe if you do enough to support Morana (eg make some people swear allegiance to her) then her House can survive, for example. Or you could make one of the other groups end up "on top" so to speak.

But still, overall a lot of fun. Some of the fights were quite tough, which is rare in mods but nice to see.

Thanks again. I look forward to part 3.

Yes it's true. There are no options for playing a female drow. The reason is, that a female drow would have a completely different adventure concerning the roles of females and males in drow society. This is the reason why I recommend playing AHTDR and LOLTHANCHWI with MALE characters.

Of course you are allowed to play female characters - if you like.

Greetings Wayne

This module was okay. It felt more like a hack & slash with dialog which was disappointing. I wasn't really feeling the interaction. The PC was never established in this module. AHTTD felt like the PC was established but I just never really felt it here. It felt more like that the PC was a friend of the male drow merc just tagging along. I also felt there should have been some gender specific dialog for if the PC was female, being that the Drow are a matriarchal society. The male drow companion just lets his mouth run away from him and I was disappointed that he was tolerated at all. Overall this felt too rushed, and the issues with SoZ are icing on the cake.

I got to rate this a 5 - Fair, Solid yet Unremarkable.

Giving this 9.25 despite the occasional glitch (cut-scene on return from Melarn plays each time you go back from there, you can walk through flames in the temple in Melarn, the scouting mission where the Turruk???s attack was pretty much impossible if not for the 'immortal' house officer)

Posted by PaulBlay at 2010-11-17 13:43:13    Voted 9.25 on 11/17/10
Found the mage. However it's very confusing that there are _two_ map pins that have 'burning temple' as the note. (The one I found first was in the ruins of house Melarn)

Quite a few people have made this point before, but when the Gnome tells you that a Drow mage is at the burning temple it really doesn't help much.

Does he mean in the burning Academy?

After i get the Matrons to meet for the first time... where do i go? The Journal isn't clear about this, just says she wants to go investigate the Duergar etc and then a lot of complaining from my character...can anyone help?

I liked this module. I think the ending was a bit "odd" and out of character. The AHTtDR ending was much more in character with the story/plot. With that said, this module seemed better crafted than AHTtDR. Both modules were FUN to play.

Posted by SamStickman at 2010-10-14 15:43:04    Voted 7.00 on 10/14/10
Just finished playing through, decided to rate and comment (spoiler warning):

Pros - the overall plot and storyline is excellent, dealing with the Silence of Lolth and getting an insight into the way Drow handle a crisis. Good references to the backstabbing nature of Drow politics, and how that has to be put aside when such machinations would just mean the entire city dies.

Cons - depending on what dialogue choices you've made, the ending, with the PC and Alkranal leaving in disgust, doesn't necessarily make sense. There are options in the various discussions with Alkranal where it would appear that the PC is all gung ho for setting Morana up as a power in the new Ched Nasad, and then the Sage sends us packing. If you were to update it in the future, I'd suggest making those dialogues focus more on the idea of "we're only here temporarily," since the PC is going to be leaving in the end no matter what they do.

Additionally, the dialogues are passable, but there are errors of grammar that give the entire thing an unfinished feel. Proofreading everything and then reworking it all would be an extensive task, but it remains something that detracts from the mod.

Finally, whether this is just my game or not, upon returning from the Duergar dig site, and discussing how to break the wards on House D'dgttu, there is a point in the dialogue where they point to the PC, and ask whether s/he can break the wards. Even if the PC is most definitely NOT a spellcaster. And the PC's responses assume that the PC is a wizard of some kind. Needless to say, when you're playing as a fighter/weaponmaster, this is jarring. If this is due to plot, that the PC is supposed to be a spellcaster, it would be good to have a warning somewhere, likely with the Sage, before playing the module.

Given that, as is, the module is enjoyable and worthwhile, I rate high, but the cons force me to knock things down to a 7. It's lacking the final polish that would REALLY make it shine, in my humble opinion.

A complete reinstall of NWN2 fixed my porblems. another module I tried to play in the meantime caused this. I'm just happy it made Lolthanchwi possible as well.

This was flat out the best module I've palyed so far. Great story, great visuals and characters.

The perfect 10 is reduced because of a few minor bugs:

SPOILERS
- The merchant who promsied me a reward never offered any items
- A handful minor graphic glitches, e.g. the matron at the end stood "inside" the stairs
- Thiandir didn't follow

The ending was way too abrupt. I had hoped for at least a final cutscene and not just the jump to the sage. A bit of a letdown but I hope the transition will be resolved in the final chapter, which I hope is still coming.

ok, 2 hrs of further inquiries:

I can see the trigger in debug, it's there my char is standing right on it.

I tried:
- New char
- Trigger with console, I'm not very adapt at using console commands or the toolset but I guess "rs trigger_event_002_cs001" should have done the trick in this case if I understand the toolset correctly
- Trigger with mouse-dropdown in debug

Non of this is working. I'd really like to play this because I had lots of fun with AHTTD. I figure I maybe need a first journal entry to trigger the event. But I do not know how to activate the journal with the console.

I am at a loss here and would appreciate any help.

Posted by Avo at 2010-08-25 13:07:14    Voted 9.50 on 08/31/10
I just wanted to start this and have some trouble at the beginning. I fear some triggers are not working. After I pass the gate my char appears in a dark tunnel(drow outpost), there's two drow a few steps ahead and then some enemies. The whole thing doesn't make any sense.

I found out that these two are future companions but there's no way to talk to them. also I can't start any conversation with my companion. I think something is not working here.

Also the journal is empty. Any help?

A nice follow up to AHTtD. The story line was interesting and the characters reasonably well done.
I wasn't able to finish it. After we broke into the tower, I wasn't able to pursue the priestess when she left to activate her whatever of doom. This is a moot point now since I lost my saved game and I don't plan to replay the whole module just to get the ending. Even with all of this I am still glad that I played it.

Posted by Lanjane at 2010-07-11 22:24:58    Voted 10.00 on 07/11/10
Awesome. Thanks for sharing this, probably my most beloved modules for NWN2. Liked the characters, especially Thriandil and Piwiwien (that's a pity she was gone in AHTD), liked the world, liked just everything. By the way, I've noticed that both modules are best played with wizard. Maybe they were balanced for wizard?

To all: there are some .2DA files which are in direct conflict with SoZ (for example, they remove Volo, as was said before, or S'Sani, batiri, gray orcs&yuantee, some SoZ-specific locations, dinosaur companion etc.). I wonder if there will be a patch from Marcus, but anybody who is interested how to fix that, should go to NWN2 Data folder, then look to 2DA_X2.zip and find next files:

- TexturesTileCeiling.2da
- TexturesTileFloor.2da
- TexturesTileWall.2da
- appearance.2da

and then add missing entries from Lolthanchwi similar files to them, and save to Lolthanchwi override folder. It's not difficult, as soon as Marcus placed all new entries for his module at the end of the files, gave A LOT of free space for any new Obsidian patches&addons ;) So just copy-paste some new strings and all will work properly.
Or if you are too lazy, just remove Lolthanchwi folder from overrides when you are going to play SoZ)

Played as a pure class Drow Ranger.

Pros: Great story, well-written scripts, almost bug-free, well-drawn areas, moderate uses of skill checks.

Cons: Linear gameplay, side quests seems to be a bit too challenging (and without much warnings)

Diffs from prequel(s): identification problem addressed(identifying rod and misc objects added, more merchants), new matron lacks a personality(compared to Piwiewien), less troops controlling fights(good to me), even less options to affect outcomes.

Bugs found so far:
-When zoning from main chasm to upper side tunnel, there's a trigger that'll cause the matron to talk, the first time I passed through it kept triggering and stopping my PC using 'WSAD' controls, along with the matron yelling 'I need to see the rubble' it made me turned back thinking it was a dead end;

-Dinosaur companion doesn't work (which is wierd since it worked in the prequel, I had to console-delevel myself down to lvl 3 and repick the animal companion and avoid getting the dino feat for it to work)

-matron doesn't earn any exp(not sure if this is intended or not though)

It was a great mod and I really hope there will be a last part as scheduled (too bad my system can't handle Dragon Age and won't be able to play the mods there =/)

Posted by aliengamer at 2010-05-07 17:49:27
This is an awesome module. BUT! There's one huge bug. It's totally unrelated to the campaign, but one of the override files DELETES VOLO from the SOZ campaign. I don't know which file it is. Still an awesome campaign nevertheless.

Oh well, I finally bit the bullet and continued playing after the rust monsters destroyed most of my stuff. Except for that bit, this mod is very nice. I liked the story, areas and characters; very drow-esque ;)

Man a great series, my Drow wizard Vukodlak very much enjoyed it, I hope Maerimydra is still forth coming.

Posted by Sumguy at 2010-02-14 08:49:59    Voted 9.00 on 02/17/10
I really liked the beginning. Story, areas, characters are great. Enjoyed myself quite a bit.

Unfortunately the fun abruptly ended when I realised the rust monsters had stripped 2 of my companions of most of their equipment equipment. By the time I realised that, my save had already been overridden.

Considering that merchants ask such high prices and hardly give any money in return, that was the point were I stopped because I couldn't afford replacements; quite a metaphorical kick to the balls.

Destroying items with no way to get them back or even telling the player in BIG RED LETTERS is a massive design flaw in my opinion.
