===========
DESCRIPTION
===========

One man seeks to make the Dalelands his. Will you be the one to stop him?

Set in the Dalelands region of the Forgotten Realms, Trinity is a party-based, single-player, stand-alone adventure inspired by classic PnP gameplay. For levels 6 to 8, with up to 7 hours of playing time (or more!).

The story takes place in 1375 DR, in the same general period as the NWN2 official campaigns. It is partly inspired by Ed Greenwoods PnP module called Into the Forgotten Realms (published in Dragon Magazine #85, 1985).

=========
THE STORY
=========

The adventure in Trinity begins as you stand before the Lord of Shadowdale. Lord Falconhand, acting on behalf of the Dalelands Council, selected you to lead a party of adventurers on a mission to stop one would-be tyrant from succeeding where another one failed twenty years before. Setting off from the Twisted Tower of Shadowdale by the Ashaba river, you will be taken to a section of the old elven forest of Cormanthor near the ruins of fabled Myth Drannor. From there, you will plunge deep underground into one of the areas abandoned schools of wizardry on a hunt for magic, and a chase for one man.

==========================================
IS THIS MOD FOR YOU?
MORE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE DOWNLOADING
==========================================

I designed and developped Trinity in accordance with what was important to me. Before downloading, you should be aware of the following:

NOT FEATURED in the mod:

+Romances and companion influence system.

+Set good and evil paths. All situations are handled individually and there are opportunities to be a goodie-two-shoes as much as a "bastard/bitch, and places in between.

+Banter-style roleplaying/Flavor dialogue options: player dialogue options are instead focussed on making choices that matter, uncovering the story, lore, setting and quests, and gathering information. Most dialogue options have been kept deliberately terse to allow players to voice their characters themselves and streamline gameplay.

+Alignment shifts.

+Crafting.

+Voiceovers.

+Cultural, social, or historical speech. All dialogues are written in contemporary North-American English, while avoiding blatant anachronisms.

+SoZ-style party conversations, overland map or "permanent" death.

+Freeform sandbox-style gameplay.

IN ADDITION:

+The mod can feel "story/lore/setting-heavy" if you choose to read all the dialogue options that are presented to you (especially in the beginning). However, you won't miss out on any aspect of the main quest line or on many of the sidequests if you choose not to read everything.

+It is STRONGLY recommended to keep all four starting companions with you at all times. The mod was designed with them in mind.

Late to the game and late to vote - yet above all this author deserves the vote and praise.

I have seen this mod compared to Harp & Crys and others.

In so much as it is unfair to compare some modules to others because of scope this clearly is a must have bordering on masterpiece.

This is one of the most immersive mods on the vault stepped in the lore of the Dalelands. There are interesting (I prefer to say quirky) adventuring companions that add value to the immersion. All of this what NWN2 was designed to deliver and what the author has mastered.

Like the aforementioned H&C there is a certain underlying linearity to the plot. Never the less this does not detract from the module as all and immersion and interaction clearly minimize the impact of the linearity. No obvious fetch and go plot here - you have a feeling of historical necessity.

Even if you prefer SOZ sandbox non linear style mods - play this one. It is among the very best in the game.

This was by far the best module I have ever played. It contains great story and dialogue, challenging fights and three companions who have their own personality. It reminded my of the Baldurs Gate series sometimes. Sometimes you have to make decisions that affect the story strongly and some of this decisions will be pretty hard. Even the end of the game depends on your decisions.

The author is an excellent scripter and so you will be confronted with some puzzles or challenges completely unique.

I finished the module only minutes ago and I am still thrilled by its greatness. Absolutely awesome! The only bad thing I can think of is that it took only a couple of days to play it trough. But in fact it is pretty long for a fan made module. You will just play so much, it will not take you long.

Is the mod fully compatible with the latest version of Kaedrin's PrC package?

Posted by swashbucklersdc at 2011-07-31 21:28:09    Voted 10.00 on 07/31/11
Loved this mod! I played with a Swashbuckler, ended at Swashbuckler 7/Rogue 3. Very well done, great story and characters.
One question: I took the dragon statue at the end. Is there a way to use it to summon pseudo dragons in other mods? I have used it and it summons shadow mastiffs unless in the Trinity mod (I started with my exported end character to test it and it does indeed summon two pseudo dragons). I notice the cloak has a file to take with you, does the statue? If not, I'll just keep it as a memento.
Thanks!

Broken module - good (if monologuing and linear) story.

Game-breaking bug details follows:
Played with original party, no custom party members. When I leave the dungeon of Soloria to face Gaion (I had to read the Spoilers to even get this strange idea!!), the Dungeon Master informs me that I have not enough Magic Items for the Falconlord. Well, I explored Soloria completely, have every single magic item:
- Wand of Silence
- Wand of Missiles
- Wand of Scorching Ray
- Wand of Free Mind
- Wand of Greater Arcane Disjunction
- Crown of Founder
- Red Dragon Egg
- Lesser Ring of Regeneration
- Gemstone o.t. Elements
- 2x Masters Stone o. Cooling
- Assassins Piwafi
- 4x Precious Chalice
- Ring o.t. Fearless
- 20x Engraved Ring (related Bug see below)
- large egg-shaped gem
- Pouch of Powdered Diamonds
- Quiver o.t. Phoenix Guard
- Mace o. Crimson Fire
- Student Cloak
- Headmasters Baton
- Short Sword vs undead
- Tiny Dragon Statue
- Electric Mandoline
- Climbing Gloves
- Bastard Sword of Swiftness
If that's not enough on items, I have no idea. And yes, I defeated Azimer twice. If his phylactery is in my possession, I have no idea. Might be the dragon egg, or the egg shaped gem? Or the backside of a painting that Relvin (the rogue) claimed to have found, but which I couldn't find? Is something supposed to happen when I find this mysterious phylactery?

Second bug about the ring in the cloak: I picked up the cloak off a shelf, without a dialog appearing. When I pass the rugged cloak around in my party, a dialog appears, and I can cut the seam of the cloak infinitely often, each time when the cloak has a new owner.

Another bug, happened only once: It was possible that Azimer changed hostile in his study without the initial monologue about his lazy student. In this case, when beating him to zero, the party-monologue appeared, but Azimer didn't teleport properly to his bedroom, but stayed in the study and was invulnerable.

In total: Nice ideas and a well designed railroad plot. I'd like to play again without this bug.

Thanks TikiHat! You're right again there! Most challenges have different ways they can be met. To me, "choice" in dealing with a situation is the essence of an RPG and I spent a lot of time building that in. At the expense of total playtime for sure. But giving the player choices was more important for me.

Well, you hit it out of the park!

Since the Olde Days, Ranger has been my preferred Class. Trinity was the first Module in NWN2 I found that let me Range ahead and actually scout out what was ahead with a real payoff for my work. It was really rewarding to be able to sneak around and find not only multiple avenues for action, but multiple possible tactics to weigh on each avenue. This wasn't limited to just a couple of encounters, but was pretty much a feature of the entire module. It is amazing how many options you have allowed for in what is basically a straightforward quest. The replayability of Trinity is off the charts because of this.

(as an aside, I have found 4 completely different ways of dealing with my favorite area... so far)

Posted by E.C.Patterson at 2011-06-30 19:20:35
Thanks TikiHat. It thrills me to no end to read comments like yours: what you describe was EXACTLY what I was going for.

Thanks again Ark for replaying and for the feedback!

A truly enjoyable work, it took me back to the pnp days in the 80s in many ways. The way the Companions verbally sniped at each other throughout was truly enjoyable. They weren't old friends, after all.

The scenery and custom music were completely immersing. I also loved the attention to detail throughout. Special kudos for the tapestries in this creation. Tapestries were a very important art form in the past, and you are the only modder I've seen that realizes this. Extra Credit happily given for this.

***Spoilers***

One of the best parts of the whole module for me was the Drow Camp. I absolutely loved the fact that there were multiple ways of attacking it, and the opportunity to size each up before committing to battle.

***End Spoilers***

All in all, this is one of the best modules out there. Combat was challenging, but not overwhelming. Party interaction was entertaining and stayed within the scope of the Party's reason for being. The environments were beautifully crafted. Decisions mattered. A part of me wanted this to continue, but I realize that this module tells but one chapter in my character's life. I hope to see EC and GPS give me a chance to see what lies ahead(totally unsubtle hint).

Posted by Arkalezth at 2011-05-23 10:05:10    Voted 10.00
I've started a new playthrough. I'm playing a character with the feat Improved Disarm. The readme mentions that most enemies can be disarmed (so after a succesful disarm, enemy weapons should end in my inventory, or in the ground if it's full), but I always get the message saying that the weapon has been destroyed.

*SPOILERS*

I joined Rogassien to assault the drow camp. The conversation after the victory is a bit bugged. I can repeteadly use Bluff/Diplomacy for infinite XP, and only his death seems to end the quest correctly (the Rangers won't leave the drow camp otherwise).

Also, right at the beginning, I forgot to talk to the old man (forgot the name) who gives the main quest, and spoke with everyone else in that area, getting the quest from the girls. After coming back to speak with him, I got the girl's quest again when I walked past them, ending with two scarfs. I reloaded, so no problem, but it seems to be a bug there.

E.C., thanks so much for trying to help, but it doesn't look like I'm ever going to get to play your mod. I tried what you suggested and just loaded the original mod without the update, and the game crashed to the desktop almost immediately after starting to load. I tried again with the update, but the same thing happened. I can't even get to the character screen - and it doesn't seem to matter if my localvault is empty or not. I've never had this problem before so I guess that's it for me.

Thanks again,

Karen :)

I'm back for more help - I still can't get this mod to load! I emptied my localvault as suggested elsewhere, but it didn't help at all. The mod quits loading within seconds and I'm beginning to wonder if it has to do with the exe update (I'm on a Mac). Would it be too much trouble to ask you to upload the update as a zip or rar? I get a weird font message when I open it.

Thanks!

Karen :)

You have a very unusual problem karen. I tried everything I could think of. Sorry we could not resolve it. If anyone have any ideas to pass on to karen, please feel free.

Thank you everyone else for your comments and feedback. I'm thrilled players are still enjoying Trinity.

I would really appreciate some help. For some reason I just can't get the game to load. It starts to load then almost immediately quits to the desktop. I put in the update, but it didn't help. I don't know if it matters, but I'm on a Mac with only Motb installed.

Thanks for any help you can give me,

Karen :)

Not much to contribute to the discussion except that this is really good and well-made. I was pretty sure there were a couple of objects I would have wanted to take out in order to get to what I think were special areas, but for some reason bash wouldn't execute. I assume there's some kind of spot check, but regardless I couldn't seem to do anything with them and I was disappointed not to get a chance to take care of unfinished business near the end. Then again, I may just not have been imaginative enough in my problem-solving.

thanks. guess I'll bump that up to a 9.75 since it wasn't a bug it was just my dumb fault. I stick by what I said about the ending being flat and a tad unsatisfying, not really because of what happened but because it just seemed like there should have been a bit more. I was like...uh! that's it?! Don't take that the wrong way though, this is an absolutely fantastic work, and I hope to be exploring the Dalelands or ruins of Myth Drannor in more of your work.

Posted by E.C.Patterson at 2011-02-10 16:40:04
Vanilla Gorilla: about the destroy the bridge quest...

**SPOILERS** Did you go into the cave network area, across the lake just outside the school? That's where you will find the bridge to destroy. You need to take the raft to access it. The Bridge of Remembrance (where you encounter the first drow contingent) and the grate in the School are not what you are supposed to destroy.

Thanks for your comments and feedback everyone! I get a kick from each and every one of them (and take notes about bugs and what irked you... though I can't say I wholly share the negative views about the ending... I guess it might depend which ending you pick. Some endings might feel more open than others I suppose.)

This is a marvelous work. the area designs are perfect, the atmosphere is great, the dialogue is good without being pretentious or tedious, the custom artwork and story are great. The only thing wrong here is the ending. It is rather flat and it comes waaaay too soon. after playing this mod and the Misery Stone, I want to dig out the mods I was working on and try to complete them. I'm knocking off .25 for the ending, and .25 because I encountered a bug where I could not complete the "destroy the drow bridge" quest. I detonated barrels on the exterior bridge and by the stuck grate near the waterfall. the rocks fell in front of the grate but nothing else happened and the quest was left unfinished. detonating them outside did nothing at all. It wasn't a game breaker, but it did annoy me a bit.

I wonder if some community support could be found for some voice acting in some of these great pieces of work.

-0.5 because I was expecting more, after seen all the details (masterwork weapons etc). After the end I was like "What...when did this end? :O". I mean I knew that it would be 7 hours...but I don't like stories ''without'' ending :| (ok it had many endings, but I didn't feel it was "THE END"...)

Also the hidden doors are a nightmare. I mean in pen and paper you can tell "I search this area" but search mode is too slow in the game :S I would advice everyone to play some elf with max skill points in search :P I know that I certainly would...

Very fun mod, was very linear, almost forced, there was places you couldn't navigate to in the woods, which could be time consuming and aggravating at times. but very well planned, loved the rangers. On the down side, faught azirin, beat him then he came back and was immune to all damage, couldn't find his phylactery so didn't really know what to do with him other than escape. Gaion and his wife just stood there and let me beat the hell out of them.
All in All I found the mod very fun and entertaining nice use of the baldurs gate and icewind dale music. I think with a little more polish on the end game could land this mod a 10. But was truly enjoyable my thanks.

*spoilers*

Nice module; I liked the area design and the fact that the NPC's all had personality. The story was passable - I like the fact that it was kept sort of small-scale and didn't involve the party single-handedly saving the nation as too many mods do. The thief as infiltrator was a nice twist. Also liked that the various NPC's reacted to the fact that my character was Drow - it's those small touches that make a world believable.

The ending seemed a little abrupt to me; I chose to take Gaion captive, and the battle seemed a little easy to me, and then afterwards there really isn't much to do. I guess in whole it just seemed a little anti-climactic. But overall it was a lot of fun, especially waging war on the drow encampment.
