Oh no! A fish has mysteriously vanished in the mess area! Can you sort out the mess?
Don't miss this if you like Pythons!
The download contains an optional character to play with. Put the inspectorcheese file in your localvault folder if you want to try that.
Final version.
I am under a looming deadline for several projects right now and can only really play 1-2 mods a day, so it's nice when the ones I pick are fun and well done. :) Because I don't have a lot of time to go into detail with this review, I will simply echo BFlowers' comments 100%. I also agree with MikeLM9215's comment about the cook. I actually spent an additional and unnecessary 20 minutes inching around the room for more clues to try to figure out what I missed. (Found the fish tank, though!) Going back to the cook a 4th time, I finally found the "write in the book" entry that allowed me to come to a conclusion about the investigation. By then, that obnoxious tavern song was really getting on my nerves! :) I should have taken your advice and turned on other music. But that's not your fault. LOL I am not a fan of Monty Python -- though I do not *dis*like them -- so I didn't go into this with a predisposition to liking it. But like it I did. I do have to say the last third of the mod did kind of slow down and the pacing died. The ending was unfulfilling, but within the context of the genre/pardoy, I think that was okay. In the end I was leaning towards an 8, but I really appreciate your honesty and integrity with the contest, specifically discouraging your friends from giving you 10s out of duty/friendship/etc. That made me want to give you an 8.5. I decided against it, though, since you had asked for honest reviews on your writing alone, so I changed it at the last minute back to an 8.0. So there you go. Thanks for the fun. :)

Hey nereng, Your votes have been generous and show compassion for the creative process.. This one?s for you..

Naturally, a parody isn?t a completely original concept. Cannot remember the skit to discern where it departs. A comedic whodunit, yet another whodunit. Characters moderately developed, though similar. Would?ve liked to see some difference in this regard. Another case where PC is working for someone, which I do not prefer. Writing sound. Story entertaining, but as I said, not completely original (8)

Biased Biased, horrendously Biased vote because of the subject. But you deserve the 9.25 simply because most spoofs fail terribly and yours succeeded, well quite brilliantly. The ending was a bit of a let down- it was too abrupt and you were cruising for a big finish- hence took off a bit for that. But I laughed so hard I snorted coffee.

Nothing earth-shattering about this, but it was a lot of fun to play! The writing is nice, but could probably be a bit tighter. Nicely done!

Dang! I blundered when I made the last update and erased my download count! *sniff* I think it was about 140. Oh, well...

OK, I've uploaded a new version with a better explanation for those who have not seen, or does not remember the "Find the Fish" sketch. I'll repeat it here: "The opening cutscene is a remake of the "Find the Fish" sketch in the Monty Python movie "The Meaning of Life". This module should therefore not be rated on the umm... poetic strength of the "Find the Fish" poem." That whole cutscene is there only to set the mood. (And maybe flash my scripting skills a little, but you shouldn't rate it for that either.) Have fun!

Kirian, I know what Monty Python is. I own several recordings, I listened to them on VINYL as a child. I've watched some shows, I have many bits memorized. I'm just as much of a geek as the rest of you. I didn't however have this particular bit memorized as I haven't seen the particular sketch with the fish poem. I wondered if he lifted the poem wholesale from a Monty Python sketch or if he was simply inspired by a segment. For example, being inspired by the "dead parrot" bit to say, have a pirate or merchant that wanders around with a dead parrot on his shoulder and insists it's just sleeping, WITHOUT copying actual lines, would be a charming send-up and nice reference to those who "get it". As it is entirely lifted from another artist's work (a quick internet search was able to turn it up), and without proper referencing even, I'm kinda disappointed. Seriously Nereng, that is plagiarism and it is NOT cool. The worst part is that you didn't need to do it. The rest of your story stands nicely on its own and I felt the poem was actually a break in your characterization. I'm not going to lower your mark because I don't like the idea of giving and taking away. However, I believe you are likely to be eliminated from the contest because of it. Plagiarism in a writing contest is really not kosher.

*gasp* *stunned silence* Shame on you, BFlowers! Where have you been the past century? Monty Python is not 'A Sketch'! That's like saying that the bible is a verse, or that Plato is a character featuring in comic books, or that Tolkien is the director of a movie! Monty Python is about 20 years of absurd comedy that lies at the basis of a great deal of our culture! *sigh* Never mind. I guess I am getting old, heheh.

Yeah, well, I'm really not trying to be that harsh, really. It's just I think if you give someone a 10 it should be because you would pay for it. 9 is about the best I think people can achieve working alone, rather than with a team of writers. That said, I'm not entirely happy with the mark I gave you. I haven't played enough really GOOD modules to have my upper end calibrated yet. I may come back and push it up a bit. I think the only thing I am leery about is the Monty Python thing. I have to admit to never seeing this sketch. What exactly was the inspiration and how closely did you follow it? What I'm getting at is was the source a really heavy influence, indicating maybe it might not be repeatable, or was it a really vague influence around which you came up with the entire script yourself? Like was it a guy with a fish on a leash that inspired you to greatness, or was the entire poem by Monty Python?
