Description
Our tale begins here, in the quiet fishing village of Easthaven. One of the so-called "Ten Towns" of Icewind Dale, the tiny community is hardly a town, but rather a collection of ramshackle huts crowded together upon the icy shores of Lac Dinneshere. Here within a dimly lit tavern, a group of travelers sit huddled around a table, swapping tales and making grand plans for the future, completely unaware of the part they are to play in the events that are about to unfold.

This is a campaign so you must select "New Campiagn" to start. (select new game/new campaign/Icewind Dale/start campaign.

Races: races from IWD are supported, others may work.
Classes: classes from IWD are supported, others may work.
Level: start at level 1
Party Size: party of up to 6
Difficulty: Combat is balanced for a party of 4. A party of 6 will make it easier.

Has been tested for Multiplayer and seems to be working so far...

The re-creation of the story, the areas and the atmophere is sbsolutely fabolous, a nice trip down memory lane for most parts.
However, for a combat-heavy game like Icewind Dale, balance is a major issue, and - I'm afraid - this is where the mod fails more often than not. Many fights are way too easy, not accounting for the new abilities, classes and spells in NWN2. Those are boring and can be done by the party on it's lousy AI alone.
This is countered by several fights that are ridiculously hard (Malavon being one of them and Belhifet is just an invulnerable, auto-killing joke) and are only winnable by massive AI exploits or outright cheating. This is pretty fristrating and takes away some of the enjoyment in this otherwise excellent mod.

Runeshard, the answer is yes. You need Storm of Zehir for this module. The party editor is a part of that expansion.

This mod is an incredible remake of IWD. The mod does have some bugs, and a lot of the monsters are fairly weak. This is a few patches/tweaks away from perfection.

Posted by Runeshard at 2012-08-08 04:18:02
Is it the case that I need storms of Zehir in order to get this to work?

Posted by Runeshard at 2012-08-08 03:40:43
I must be doing something wrong, I've tried a number of times now but I can't seem to find the Party editor, when I aske the dungeon master about it he says "of course, here it is" but nothing turns up, pressing esc doesnt show any Party Editor option either, just party selection and the others. would appreciate some help at this point.

Still playing this module, and Im getting a bug or something.

For some reason i can't use the spell scorching ray (either single or many). So far all other motb/soz spells seems to work ( so far that i have been able to use) just not scorching ray.
I had SoT module placed in my mydoc\nwn 2\ fodlers, i didnt see anything that would prevent the use of the spell. while playing SoT, scorching ray worked fine.
I went as far as to create a new nwn 2 folder to place IWD in, but still it fire. All i get is the casting part where my PC lights up with te spell fx, but does not shoot the actual spell out to do damage.
I love that spell, but if no one knows what to do in terms of making it work in IWD, then its alright.

I have motb and soz installed. Any halep would be great.

Is it possible to get the script and to know how tho adjust XP according the number of Player Characters?

Posted by tjlson at 2012-07-29 14:33:29
I'm really looking forward to playing this, but I am having a small problem. After I talk to the DM to get the campaign started, watch the opening sequence, and talk to Hrothgar, I can't really do anything. I can walk out of doors, but if I try to interact with any NPC's, nothing happens, but it won't let me select or use anything, which means that after that I can't walk through doors or anything like that. Also, after that if I hit escape to open the menu, my game crashes, and before that, the 'Party Editor' button that is supposed to appear isn't there. Any idea what I should do?

Solved.

Here's what I think happened in case someone else finds themsselves in the same situation.

I solo-ed witha Paladin. I the Severed Hand I found myself in a gamebreaking situation. A NPC I needed to talk to had detected some enemies behind a locked door and switched to combat mode. I wasn't able to finish a critical quest because I*bleep* talk to her. The only way out was to open that unbreakable, but pickable, door, kill the baddies and then talk to the NPC. I had to import a thief through the party editor from another game in the middle of "combat" to pick the lock. That must have somehow broken the XP script. At least after that I did not get any quest xp.

Went back to an earlier save and when I came upon the same situation the NPC luckily was far away from the door and could be talked to. Everythingw ent smoothely from there.

It's just a guess, but the only explanation I could come up with.

Weirdness, weirdness...

I'm replaying solo with a Paladin at the moment. Started lvl 7 and have just reached lvl 13 during the Hand. Something odd happened now.

I don't seem to get any more quest xp. Neither did I get xp for returning the pieces of machinery, nor for completing the Hand as a whole. Returned the Mythal book to Kuldahar and didn't get any quest xp either.

Combat seems fine. Allthough, if this continues, I might hit a wall at some point in the near future. I guess there will be a point when the game gets too tough for a solo char with no quest xp.

Could anyone tell me how to fix this or how many xp would be appropriate to give my char through console commands?

Excellent recreation of a classic, can only echo what Avo said really

At L13 with a party of 5 though I just couldn't win the final battle without cheating :(

Late to the game and late to vote. Still I need to thank the author for their contribution.

I fully declare this vote is heavily influenced by nostalgia of when I was a younger man and everything D&D 'video games' was new. New to the world.

An especially faithful rendition of a game I loved dearly with many many attention to small details. Stepped in Faerun lore even to the point of certain plot elements that really dont reveal the outcomes of RA Salvatores writings. I fully admit to being bias in this manner as well.

Thank you for this wonderful and faithful rendition.

I played version 1.0 of this and I understand another site may have an update. I do wonder if you will please load it here and also add a "quirky compnaion" or 2 or 3 as an option. Compensating for quirky companions always rounds out an NWN mod in game 1 or 2 and would make this 10 +

Please create and release "Icewind Dale II" as an NWN2 Campaign complete adventure module, that's directly based on the original "Icewind Dale II" PC action RPG game somehow please.

1. I admire the enthusiasm and the effort to "copy" IwD (nearly 1:1) into a NWN2-mod - really!

2. I like IwD and play it again and again every year or two, but the story isn't so great - and a copy can't be better.

3. (For me) it doesn't feel right!
(and I *love* playing Baldur's Gate with the BG2 engine!)
Maybe it's not really possible to convert D&D 2 to 3.5 1:1 without losses.

Outstanding work. A couple of minor bugs already discussed elsewhere. A really solid game and lots of fun. Makes me sorry I never bought the original.

"Some battles however stood out as really hard (Malavon, final fight)."

Thanks for that, I was afraid he wasn't challenging enough, during the AI test my dwarf killed him 4 times with one or two blows at the beginning of the fight...

BTW, with the default xp settings, the level cap is 13-14, so, yes, that's right, it's about the same level as the original. Slowdive used a reward table from the original IWD, adjusted for the 3ED ruleset.

With a 85% from monster killing and 145% for quest reward you should be able to end at 16, near the 17. Iirc that was the settings I used to test the settings UI, and I was 16 when I faced Belhifet.

It's been an age soince I played the original IWD and I could only remeber bits and pieces of it, but from what I recall this is a very faithful remake. The spirit and feeling of the old game was captured and that's what counts. Thumbs up for the effort and the dedication of getting it done. A truly remarkable achievement.

It's a good game with a decent plot and, like the original, it's based around the combat. The main point I always loved about the IWD games was the atmosphere. It's gritty, dirty and dark. That set's it apart from a lot of other modules.

I played witha party of 4 and finished lvl 13, to be honest I had expected to end at least tow or three levels higher. It was a fairly standard party (tank, rogue, cleric, mage) and I left all xp settings as they were.

I fond the game balance slightly odd. The beginningw as very tough (kobold/goblin battle at the pass), then it got alot easier, bordering on very easy for most of the mod. My tank and my cleric could have gotten through most of the adevnture on their own without the other two guys. Some battles however stood out as really hard (Malavon, final fight).

I couldn't se any real bugs or major glitches. Everything seemed to work fine. I missed a few items according to the original IWD walkthrough but maybe that was intentional. The Markath quest seemed odd, but amybe I did some things in the wrong order.

So, all in all a great module.

I plan to solo it at some point with a higher level char, that should be fun as well. Maybe starting around lvl 5 and see where it takes me...

Posted by Avo at 2012-05-08 11:02:20    Voted 10.00 on 05/16/12
I am not 100% sure if this is a bug, but a lot of the enemies that (according to an original IWD walkthrough) should drop specific items don't do that. The latest example I have come across is the librarian in Dragons Eye 4, also the Lizard King in Dragon's eye and Therik in the vale crypt.

In all of these cases the emeie's corpse stayed visible, but no loot appeared. As yet I seemed to have missed out on some cool items, but nothing plot critical.

If this is indeed a bug, I just hope it does not happen when an enemy is supposed to drop a key or something equally important.

Help! I'm stuck at the Severed Hand. After going through the first level, upon zoning to the second all characters, monsters, and objects disappear from view. People keep fighting but I cant see anything or anyone.

Hello, just wanted to make some comments about using Kaedrin's with this mod. I have it installed, and I just removed the k_mod_hb.ncs file from the override folder. I left everything else alone. So far, my characters are lvl 4 with absolutely no problems, and I am using one of Kaedrin's races and some of his spells.

Obviously, use at your own risk, but this seems to be an easy way of using Kaedrin's with this amazing mod until the new patch gets released. I am not a modder and have no idea what the k_mod_hb.ncs file does, so I am hoping I don't run into problems down the road.

I give this mod a 10, definitely give it a try!!

Truly a sprawling tale, very well put together. There were a few areas where the walk meshes seemed a bit wonked, and characters could sometimes get trapped in combat(the mirror room especially), but the game basically ran glitch-free. I never played the original, so I must thank the team for letting me experience the IWD story. I can't give it a 10, since it isn't an original work, but definitely consider this to be a Must Have.
