Description
WARNING: THIS MODULE DOES NOT CURRENTLY WORK WITH HOTU, AND MAY NOT WORK WITH v.1.61 AT ALL. I'll fix it when I can, but that involves a bunch of uninstalling/reinstalling expansions, and a friend has some of my NWN disks right now. The problem is with polymorphing into a raven to fly back to your lair, which isn't necessary to finish the mod but eliminates a LOT of walking since you go back home often to build new skeletons. In Bone Kenning you play a thanaturge, a necromancer from a long family tradition who animates bones through a ritual called the Incant of Reanimation.
Update: Posted link to fixed version by Neclon/Jml.

Probably the best evil/neutral character focused module on the Vault. In spite of it's briefness, the depth of the presented world it's lore is apparent. The cultural and historical inspirations and references range from the obvious (like witch hunt) to the more obscure, and the treatment of those subjects remains mature and realistic at all times. This module is a roaring fire of a story, fueled by good research and quite a talent for writing. A shame, indeed, that it was abandoned. _________________________ Voting my black heart out.

Nearly perfect module. It's such a shame there's no sequel. Great story.
I've just uploaded a (cross-platform?) 'Teleportation fixed' version of 'Bone Kenning I: Art of the Thanaturge (v.1.04)', currently waiting for the vault approval.

Awesome! Great setting, good story and dialogues, high amount of customization and attention to detail, innovative henchmen system and boss battles.
The only thing I didn't like was having to wait a whole day for that one special item to be crafted, especially at that late stage in the game, but since that was optional, no big deal.
Thanks a lot to neclon for providing the fix, so that we can enjoy Bone Kenning to this day!

A Masterpiece!
Even by today's standard this module is still a must play.
For full enjoyment use of neclon's script fix (below) is recommended. I completed it with a Necromancer Cleric instead of the more intuitive Sorcerer or Druid as I found the ability make/destroy and heal/harm undead a real bonus.

Quite good mod, with a very original idea and a nice way of implementing it. Althoug somewhat short, the story is very well carried.
Except for the mentioned bug with the teleportation (I could solve it by modifying the timing of the actions with the toolset -before seeing later that neclon had already posted a similar fix :s-), neither bugs nor annoyances found.
Pity that it seems that it will never be a second part :(

This is an excellent module that really stands out in several ways. The dialogue is excellent, and actually lets you roleplay your character, the module is wonderfully atmospheric and immersive, and the custom content is original and a lot of fun, particularly the system for building customized skeletons. The only dissapointment there is that I didn't get to see enough of it: I only got to curse someone once in a dialogue, and while your journal hints at special items that can be used when creating a thrall, there only seems to be one such item in the module. It sounds like the author was planning to expand on these ideas in a sequel, and it's a shame he never got around to making it.

Am I the only one who didn't have a problem with the teleportation? I'm running 1.68 HotU, and it works perfectly.
The only fault here is the lack of a sequel.

NOTE: As far as I can see Wes Lewis last posted here 2004-02-06 21:02:00 and it would seem this module is dead. Though i still advise you to play and vote for this module, you shouldn´t get your hopes op for a sequel. I could be wrong of course, I´m not the author.

Good story, liked the fact you gave choices on dialogue and her role in the plot. When changed to raven, I could only fly few feet then changed back to normal form. Hopefully part 2 will have more development with the dead/non-undead npc you had to save and possibly more character interaction with her and the society. Grandpa was nuts! Enjoyed the different combinations with the alchemy and skeleton constructs. Please release 2nd part quickly!! LOL

Best NWN module I ever played. Really loved the story and conversation, and the thralls of course. Would love to see it converted to NWN2, though.
Great moudle I had real fun playing it I would like to see the secound on out tho.

Just played it again. AWSOME!!
For those of you who can't fly do a search on this page for "Posted by neclon ( 66.25.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-07-18 23:17:28"
There is a script to change so the flying will work. It worked for me!!!

Good enough roleplay, although could probably be a bit more epic. The broken teleport ability with newer NWN really affects gameplay and needs to be fixed.

Best mod I've played.

i think if a mod requires you to be evil(ish)... it should make you understand why you're evil. the bit where the guards bully you at the beginning is good, but there should have perhaps have been more of that... situations where you just can't win at all unless you solve the problem the evil way.

nice change from playing a goody goody character. some nice stuff but could have done with more character driven plots and please fix that damn raven bug! walking everywhere is such a pain.

I play this mod with my Priest necromancer and I love the whole of this mod !
The stuff is perfect, the scripts work well (with help of necklon happily for the flight ;) Great thanks to him).
The story and dialogs are excellent.
Only default : the lack of sequel...

I found what i was doing wrong. through the advice of a friend i had been using the expanction disabler soas not to bind the mod to hotu
Posted by Daminite at 2005-12-10 06:53:47 Voted 9.75 on 12/11/05

Haunting environments perfect for the module. However,
-.25: For strictly evil alignment. If you could serve the forces of good (a good Thanaturge perhaps), that would raise my vote. Though your alignment points don't change, the roll of being evil disappointed me.
-.25: For not making this HoU compatible. Yes, I had to walk back to my lair. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.
Thanks,

I'd never played an evil character before, but the premise here is intriguing and well-executed.

This mod, along with the Lone Wolf ones, truly showed me how amazing and creative the user community mods could be and is directly responsible for my still playing NWN today.
Thank you.

hey neclon, you are the greatest. I just copied and pasted what you got here, restarted a new game (same charector) and now it works!!

Great one. I played as a neutral/evil thief.
== SPOILER ==
Really cool concept - I wish there was more of a purpose as to having so many bones/skulls at once like using an army of skeletons for some purpose or another. I thought the dialogue was top notch and same with the character development - you TRIED and it WORKED. It's a shame there isn't a way to make the skeletons have different models depending on the combination of bones/skulls but I'm sure that would take forever to do.

Great mod... but Lewis ... well lets say we think your kinda dead with the lack of output ( think or have a good assumption kinda funnny your dead like the undead you make in this game awsome henchmen scripts... wished you were here Magus65 a fan and a depressed soul)
